On April 3, Mexico’s Instituto Nacional de Estadistica y Geografia (INEGI) reported sales of 124,395 light vehicles in March, representing an increase of 4.7% from the 118,801 sales in March 2023.
Nissan sold 23,531 units in March, an increase of 4.0% from the previous year.
Overall Volkswagen Group sales of 13,474 units in March increased 12.5% from the same month in 2023.
General Motors sold 17,541 units, an increase of 14.0% from last year.
Ford sold 4,207 units in March, an increase of 32.4% from 2023, while Stellantis sales decreased 6.5% to 9,486 units in March.
Toyota sold 9,091 units, an increase of 25.7%, while Honda sold 3,419 units, an increase of 4.4%, and Mazda sold 7,234 units, an increase of 1.8% from the same month last year.
Kia sales increased 2.5% to 8,505 units, while Hyundai sales increased 17.0% to 4,203 units.
JAC sold 1,927 vehicles, a 12.5% increase from last March.
Chery and Omoda brands sales decreased 38.2% to 2,081 units, while Motornation sold 876 units of BAIC, Changan, and JMC vehicles, 15.4% less than last year.
Cumulative sales for the three months of the year were up 11.0% y/y to 349,753 units.
On March 7, Scotiabank maintained its previous February forecast of 1.39 million full-year sales in Mexico for 2024 and 1.43 million for 2025.

Mexican vehicle sales up 11.1% in February 2024
On March 4, Mexico’s Institito Nacional de Statistic y Geografia (INEGI) reported sales of 113,258 light vehicles in February, representing a 11.1% increase from the 225,358 sales in February 2023.
Nissan sold 18,328 units in February, a decrease of 5.6% from the previous year.
General Motors sold 16,133 units, an increase of 20.6% from last year.
Overall Volkswagen Group sales of 13,770 units in February increased 20.0% from the same month in 2023.
Toyota sold 9,587 units in February, an increase of 31.9% from 2023, while Kia sales increased 10.3% to 8,095 units in February.
Stellantis sold 7,702 units, a decrease of 5.8%, while Mazda sold 6,626 units, an increase of 19.0%, and MG sold 4,398 units, a decrease of 4.4% from the same month last year.
Ford sales increased 35.1% to 4,118 units, while Hyundai sales increased 3.1% to 4,038 units.
Chery and Omoda brands sold 2,367 vehicles, a decreased 21.3% from last February.
JAC sales increased 33.2% to 2,001 units, while Motornation sold 1,016 units of BAIC, Changan, and JMC vehicles, 21.8% more than last year.
Cumulative sales for the two months of the year were up 14.8% y/y to 225,358 units.
As of February 8, Scotiabank expected 1.39 million annual auto sales in 2024 and 1.43 million annual auto sales in 2025.

Mexican vehicle sales up 18.7% in January 2024
On February 2, Mexico’s Institito Nacional de Estadistica y Geografia (INEGI) reported sales of 112,100 light vehicles in January, representing a 18.7% increase from the 94,414 sales in January 2023.
Nissan sold 19,970 units in January, an increase of 16.5% from the previous year.
Overall Volkswagen Group sales of 13,615 units in January increased 32.3% from the same month in 2023.
General Motors sold 15,459 units, an increase of 48.3% from last year.
Ford sold 4,340 units in January, an increase of 29.3% from 2023, while Stellantis sales increased 25.2% to 6,954 units in January.
Toyota sold 9,264 units, an increase of 10.9%, while Honda sold 3,460 units, an increase of 8.9%, and Mazda sold 6,336 units, a decrease of 3.9% from the same month last year.
Kia sales increased 9.3% to 8,204 units, while Hyundai sales increased 15.0% to 3,765 units.
JAC sold 1,701 vehicles, a 0.3% decrease from last January.
Chery and Omoda brands sales decreased 13.4% to 2,600 units, while Motornation sold 820 units of BAIC, Changan, and JMC vehicles, 62.7% more than last year.
As of January 17, Scotiabank expected 1.39 million annual auto sales in 2024 and 1.43 million annual auto sales in 2025.
