Mexican vehicle sales increase 1.9% in December, increase 9.8% for full-year 2024
On January 4, Mexico’s Instituto Nacional de Estadistica y Geografia (INEGI) reported sales of 146,356 light vehicles in December 2024, representing a 1.9% increase from the 143,662 sales in December 2023.
In 2024, Mexican light vehicle sales increased 9.8% to 1,496,797 units.
In 2024, Nissan sold 255,116 units, an increase of 5.8% from the previous year.
General Motors sales of 205,043 units in 2024 had increased 11.4% from 2023.
Volkswagen Group sold 177,261 units, an increase of 18.2%, and Toyota sales of 121,968 units in 2024 increased 17.1% from last year.
Mazda sold 99,797 units, an increase of 31.3% from last year and MG sales of 60,168 units in 2024 increased 0.1% from the last year.
Stellantis sales decreased 3.1% to 93,809 units in 2024 while Kia sold 104,384 units, an increase of 11.7% from the previous year.
Hyundai sales increased 7.1% to 53,305 units in 2024 while Ford Motor sold 52,359 units, an increase of 9.2% from last year.
Chery and Omoda brands sales decreased 30.2% to 26,843 units, while JAC sold 24,826 units, an increase of 17.8% from the last year.
GWM sold 14,455 units, an increase if of 2,090.2% from the previous year.
Motornation sold 10,497 units of BAIC, Changan, JMC, DFSK and SERES vehicles, 8.8% more than last year.
Scotiabank maintained its previous November forecast for Mexico at 1.43 million units for the full year 2025.

Mexican vehicle sales up 14.3% in November 2024
On December 4, Mexico’s Instituto Nacional de Estadistica y Geografia (INEGI) reported sales of 147,971 light vehicles in November, representing an increase of 14.3% from the 129,479 vehicles sold in November 2023.
Nissan sold 25,893 units in November, an increase of 16.7% from the previous year.
Overall Volkswagen Group sales of 17,109 units in November increased 14.9% from the same month in 2023.
General Motors sold 18,224 units, an increase of 9.2% from last year.
Ford sold 4,519 units in November, a decrease of 3.8% from 2023, while Stellantis sales increased 5.3% to 8,579 units in November.
Toyota sold 11,935 units, an increase of 16.3%, while Honda sold 4,502 units, a decrease of 9.3%, and Mazda sold 13,684 units, an increase of 59.0% from the same month last year.
Kia sales increased 24.7% to 10,001 units, while Hyundai sales increased 6.2% to 5,157 units.
JAC sold 2,219 vehicles, a 5.7% decrease from last November.
Chery and Omoda brands sales decreased 34.1% to 2,054 units, while GWM sold 1,423 units.
Motornation sold 1,085 units of BAIC, Changan, and JMC vehicles, 4.8% more than last year.
On November 13, Scotiabank maintained its previous October forecast of 1.39 million full-year sales in Mexico for 2024 and 1.43 million for 2025.

On November 4, Mexico’s Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografia (INEGI) reported sales of 122,051 light vehicles in October, representing an increase of 7.0% from the 114,031 sales in October 2023.
Local media reported that this growth in the automotive market has been favored by a positive economic and financial environment, which has boosted consumer interest in purchasing new cars.
Nissan sold 21,002 units in October, an increase of 9.7% from the previous year.
Overall Volkswagen Group sales of 14,919 units in October increased 9.1% from the same month in 2023.
General Motors sold 16,294 units, a decrease of 0.3% from last year.
Ford sold 3,681 units in October, a decrease of 9.6% from 2023, while Stellantis sales increased 23.6% to 7,416 units in October.
Toyota sold 9,171 units, a decrease of 0.1%, while Honda sold 2,854 units, a decrease of 36.4%, and Mazda sold 8,456 units, an increase of 21.4% from the same month last year.
Kia sales increased 9.2% to 8,305 units, while Hyundai sales increased 11.6% to 4,966 units. MG sold 5,408 units, an increase of 7.9% from the same month last year.
JAC sold 2,000 vehicles, a 1.2% decrease from last October.
Chery and Omoda brands sales decreased 15.7% to 2,146 units, while Motornation sold 934 units of BAIC, Changan, JMC, DFSK and Seres Svehicles, 16.8% more than last year.
On October 8, Scotiabank maintained its previous September forecast of 1.39 million fullyear sales in Mexico for 2024 and 1.43 million for 2025.

Mexican vehicle sales down 1.4% in September 2024
On October 2, Mexico’s Instituto Nacional de Estadistica y Geografia (INEGI) reported sales of 116,543 light vehicles in September, representing a decrease of 1.4% from the 118,252 sales in September 2023.
Nissan sold 18,727 units in September, a decrease of 7.0% from the previous year.
Overall Volkswagen Group sales of 14,677 units in September increased 12.9% from the same month in 2023.
General Motors sold 16,197 units, an increase of 0.4% from last year.
Ford sold 3,667 units in September, a decrease of 17.5% from 2023, while Stellantis sales decreased 17.2% to 7,021 units in September.
Toyota sold 10,193 units, an increase of 16.5%, while Honda sold 3,392 units, a decrease of 16.2%, and Mazda sold 7,760 units, an increase of 14.2% from the same month last year.
Kia sales increased 3.0% to 8,002 units, while Hyundai sales decreased 14.2% to 3,992 units.
JAC sold 2,121 vehicles, a 24.5% increase from last September.
Chery and Omoda brands sales decreased 50.4% to 1,828 units, while Motornation sold 794 units of BAIC, Changan, and JMC vehicles, 1.5% more than last year.
Cumulative sales for the nine months of the year were up 10.5% y/y to 1,079,413 units.
On September 17, Scotiabank maintained its previous July forecast of 1.39 million fullyear sales in Mexico for 2024 and 1.43 million for 2025.

On September 4, Mexico’s Instituto Nacional de Estadistica y Geografia (INEGI) reported sales of 127,684 light vehicles in August, representing an increase of 11.9% from the 114,097 sales in August 2023.
Nissan sold 21,539 units in August, an increase of 1.7% from the previous year.
Overall Volkswagen Group sales of 14,999 units in August increased 16.7% from the same month in 2023.
General Motors sold 18,156 units, an increase of 11.0% from last year.
Ford sold 4,668 units in August, an increase of 13.7% from 2023, while Stellantis sales increased 8.7% to 8,507 units in August.
Toyota sold 10,916 units, an increase of 41.3%, while Honda sold 3,476 units, an increase of 24.6%, and Mazda sold 8,452 units, an increase of 52.8% from the same month last year.
Kia sales increased 10.5% to 8,747 units, while Hyundai sales decreased 3.7% to 4,426 units.
JAC sold 2,001 vehicles, a 37.7% increase from last August.
Chery and Omoda brands sales decreased 41.4% to 2,209 units, while Motornation sold 848 units of BAIC, Changan, JMC, DFSK and Seres vehicles, 0.2% less than last year.
Cumulative sales for the eight months of the year were up 12.2% y/y to 962,870 units.
Given that the Mexican economy grew 1.8 percent in the first half of 2024, according to INEGI, and consumption, although it slowed its growth rate, supports domestic vehicle sales, which increased monthly in six of the eight months of the year.
While this marked a recovery from the collapse in sales caused by the Covid-19 pandemic crisis, they are 13 percent above sales in the first eight months of 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic hit.

On August 2, Mexico’s Instituto Nacional de Estadistica y Geografia (INEGI) reported sales of 124,761 light vehicles in July, representing an increase of 12.6% from the 110,843 sales in July 2023.
Nissan sold 20,836 units in July, an increase of 11.9% from the previous year.
Overall Volkswagen Group sales of 14,773 units in July increased 28.7% from the same month in 2023.
General Motors sold 17,076 units, an increase of 6.8% from last year.
Ford sold 4,941 units in July, an increase of 21.9% from 2023, while Stellantis sales decreased 7.1% to 6,408 units in July.
Toyota sold 11,066 units, an increase of 13.8%, while Honda sold 3,719 units, an increase of 23.4%, and Mazda sold 8,374 units, an increase of 33.2% from the same month last year.
Kia sales increased 15.0% to 8,863 units, while Hyundai sales increased 21.6% to 4,542 units.
JAC sold 2,116 vehicles, a 30.5% increase from last July.
Chery and Omoda brands sales decreased 31.8% to 2,461 units, while Motornation sold 739 units of BAIC, Changan, and JMC vehicles, 32.8% less than last year.

Mexican vehicle sales up 8.3% in June 2024
On July 3, Mexico’s Instituto Nacional de Estadistica y Geografia (INEGI) reported sales of 122,929 light vehicles in June, representing an increase of 8.3% from the 113,553 sales in June 2023.
Nissan sold 21,153 units in June, an increase of 0.7% from the previous year.
Overall Volkswagen Group sales of 13,888 units in June increased 16.3% from the same month in 2023.
General Motors sold 16,742 units, an increase of 8.7% from last year.
Ford sold 4,505 units in June, an increase of 2.1% from 2023, while Stellantis sales decreased 17.0% to 7,094 units in June.
Toyota sold 10,438 units, an increase of 13.4%, while Honda sold 3,157 units, an increase of 46.7%, and Mazda sold 9,067 units, an increase of 63.7% from the same month last year.
Kia sales increased 11.2% to 8,903 units, while Hyundai sales increased 7.3% to 4,416 units.
JAC sold 2,103 vehicles, a 36.2% increase from last June.
Chery and Omoda brands sales decreased 32.9% to 2,460 units, while Motornation sold 800 units of BAIC, Changan, and JMC vehicles, 19.8% more than last year.
Cumulative sales for the six months of the year were up 11.9% y/y to 708,650 units.
On June 11, Scotiabank maintained its previous May forecast of 1.39 million full-year sales in Mexico for 2024 and 1.43 million for 2025.

Mexican vehicle sales up 12.3% in May 2024
On June 4, Mexico’s Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografia (INEGI) reported sales of 119,985 light vehicles in May, representing an increase of 12.3% from the 106,798 sales in May 2023.
Nissan sold 20,825 units in May, an increase of 3.9% from the previous year.
Overall Volkswagen Group sales of 14,048 units in May increased 21.2% from the same month in 2023.
General Motors sold 16,562 units, an increase of 21.4% from last year.
Ford sold 4,582 units in May, an increase of 22.6% from 2023, while Stellantis sales increased 5.8% to 7,404 units in May.
Toyota sold 9,916 units, an increase of 19.0%, while Honda sold 3,809 units, an increase of 75.0%, and Mazda sold 7,972 units, an increase of 34.1% from the same month last year.
Kia sales increased 12.8% to 8,802 units, while Hyundai sales increased 8.4% to 4,243 units.
JAC sold 2,102 vehicles, a 36.8% increase from last May.
Chery and Omoda brands sales decreased 7.0% to 2,626 units, while Motornation sold 805 units of BAIC, Changan, and JMC vehicles, 19.3% more than last year.
Great Wall Motor reported sales of 1,309 units during May 2024.
Cumulative sales for the five months of the year were up 12.7% y/y to 585,722 units.
On May 9, Scotiabank maintained its previous April forecast of 1.39 million full-year sales in Mexico for 2024 and 1.43 million for 2025.

On May 3, Mexico’s Instituto Nacional de Estadistica y Geografia (INEGI) reported sales of 112,048 light vehicles in April, representing an increase of 14.8% from the 97,610 sales in April 2023.
Nissan sold 18,079 units in April, an increase of 20.3% from the previous year.
Overall Volkswagen Group sales of 13,944 units in April increased 19.9% from the same month in 2023.

Ford sold 3,710 units in April, an increase of 17.3% from 2023, while Stellantis sales decreased 12.6% to 7,015 units in April.
Toyota sold 9,785 units, an increase of 35.3%, while Honda sold 3,278 units, an increase of 102.0%, and Mazda sold 7,160 units, an increase of 89.6% from the same month last year.
Kia sales increased 11.1% to 8,456 units, while Hyundai sales increased 21.6% to 4,177 units.
JAC sold 2,010 vehicles, a 13.9% increase from last April.
Chery and Omoda brands sales decreased 31.4% to 2,009 units, while Motornation sold 883 units of BAIC, Changan, and JMC vehicles, 62.9% more than last year.
Cumulative sales for the four months of the year were up 11.9% y/y to 461,801 units.
On April 9, Scotiabank maintained its previous March forecast of 1.39 million full-year sales in Mexico for 2024 and 1.43 million for 2025.

On April 3, Mexico’s Instituto Nacional de Estadistica y Geografia (INEGI) reported sales of 124,395 light vehicles in March, representing an increase of 4.7% from the 118,801 sales in March 2023.
Nissan sold 23,531 units in March, an increase of 4.0% from the previous year.
Overall Volkswagen Group sales of 13,474 units in March increased 12.5% from the same month in 2023.
General Motors sold 17,541 units, an increase of 14.0% from last year.
Ford sold 4,207 units in March, an increase of 32.4% from 2023, while Stellantis sales decreased 6.5% to 9,486 units in March.
Toyota sold 9,091 units, an increase of 25.7%, while Honda sold 3,419 units, an increase of 4.4%, and Mazda sold 7,234 units, an increase of 1.8% from the same month last year.
Kia sales increased 2.5% to 8,505 units, while Hyundai sales increased 17.0% to 4,203 units.
JAC sold 1,927 vehicles, a 12.5% increase from last March.
Chery and Omoda brands sales decreased 38.2% to 2,081 units, while Motornation sold 876 units of BAIC, Changan, and JMC vehicles, 15.4% less than last year.
Cumulative sales for the three months of the year were up 11.0% y/y to 349,753 units.
On March 7, Scotiabank maintained its previous February forecast of 1.39 million full-year sales in Mexico for 2024 and 1.43 million for 2025.

Mexican vehicle sales up 11.1% in February 2024
On March 4, Mexico’s Institito Nacional de Statistic y Geografia (INEGI) reported sales of 113,258 light vehicles in February, representing a 11.1% increase from the 225,358 sales in February 2023.
Nissan sold 18,328 units in February, a decrease of 5.6% from the previous year.
General Motors sold 16,133 units, an increase of 20.6% from last year.
Overall Volkswagen Group sales of 13,770 units in February increased 20.0% from the same month in 2023.
Toyota sold 9,587 units in February, an increase of 31.9% from 2023, while Kia sales increased 10.3% to 8,095 units in February.
Stellantis sold 7,702 units, a decrease of 5.8%, while Mazda sold 6,626 units, an increase of 19.0%, and MG sold 4,398 units, a decrease of 4.4% from the same month last year.
Ford sales increased 35.1% to 4,118 units, while Hyundai sales increased 3.1% to 4,038 units.
Chery and Omoda brands sold 2,367 vehicles, a decreased 21.3% from last February.
JAC sales increased 33.2% to 2,001 units, while Motornation sold 1,016 units of BAIC, Changan, and JMC vehicles, 21.8% more than last year.
Cumulative sales for the two months of the year were up 14.8% y/y to 225,358 units.
As of February 8, Scotiabank expected 1.39 million annual auto sales in 2024 and 1.43 million annual auto sales in 2025.

Mexican vehicle sales up 18.7% in January 2024
On February 2, Mexico’s Institito Nacional de Estadistica y Geografia (INEGI) reported sales of 112,100 light vehicles in January, representing a 18.7% increase from the 94,414 sales in January 2023.
Nissan sold 19,970 units in January, an increase of 16.5% from the previous year.
Overall Volkswagen Group sales of 13,615 units in January increased 32.3% from the same month in 2023.
General Motors sold 15,459 units, an increase of 48.3% from last year.
Ford sold 4,340 units in January, an increase of 29.3% from 2023, while Stellantis sales increased 25.2% to 6,954 units in January.
Toyota sold 9,264 units, an increase of 10.9%, while Honda sold 3,460 units, an increase of 8.9%, and Mazda sold 6,336 units, a decrease of 3.9% from the same month last year.
Kia sales increased 9.3% to 8,204 units, while Hyundai sales increased 15.0% to 3,765 units.
JAC sold 1,701 vehicles, a 0.3% decrease from last January.
Chery and Omoda brands sales decreased 13.4% to 2,600 units, while Motornation sold 820 units of BAIC, Changan, and JMC vehicles, 62.7% more than last year.
As of January 17, Scotiabank expected 1.39 million annual auto sales in 2024 and 1.43 million annual auto sales in 2025.
