Brazilian vehicle sales increase 4.2% to 195,536 units in March 2025 (ANFAVEA)
The Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) increased 4.2% YOY to 195,536 units in March 2025.
Of the newly registered vehicles, locally manufactured vehicles rose 0.5% yoy to 157,909 units, while imported vehicles jumped 22.9% yoy to 37,627 units.
Vehicle sales in March consisted of 141,590 passenger cars; 42,781 light commercial vehicles; 9,372 trucks; and 1,793 buses.
Among passenger vehicle sales by brand in the month, FCA sold 30,140 units (21.3% share), VW sold 24,047 units (17.0%), GM sold 16,048 units (11.3%), Hyundai sold 12,216 units (8.6%) and Toyota sold 11,370 units (8.0%).
Among light commercial vehicle sales by brand in the month, FCA sold 18,849 units (44.1% share), VW sold 6,232 units (14.6%), GM sold 4,126 units (9.6%), Toyota sold 3,413 units (8.0%), and Ford sold 2,981 units (7.0%).
The Fiat Argo was the best-selling passenger vehicle in March with 8,247 units, followed by the VW Polo with 8,120 units, VW T-Cross with 6,512 units, Hyundai HB20 with 6,122 units, Toyota Corolla Cross with 5,834 units, Chevrolet Onix with 5,748 units, and Honda HR-V with 5,095 units.
The Fiat Strada was the best-selling commercial vehicle in March with 10,256 units, followed by the VW Saveiro with 5,692 units, Fiat Toro with 3,629 units, Toyota Hilux with 3,413 units, Ford Ranger with 2,497 units, Chevrolet S10 with 2,330 units, and RAM Rampage with 1,819 units.
In ANFAVEA's sales report by fuel type, sales of flexible fuel vehicles were up 0.1% y/y to 138,701 units (75.2% share), diesel vehicles jumped 22.5% to 19,668 units (10.7%), gasoline vehicles increased 4.2% to 8,101 units (4.4%), hybrid vehicles surged 45.3% to 6,474 units (3.5%), plug-in hybrid vehicles soared 119.6% to 6,633 units (3.6%) and electric vehicles decreased 21.8% to 4,794 units (2.6%).
Cumulative sales for the first three months of the year were up 7.2% y/y to 551,744 units.
On March 13, Scotiabank maintained its previous January forecast, estimating full-year Brazilian sales of 2.55 million units in 2025 and 2.59 million units in 2026.
“Good performance shows that demand remains heated. Despite the challenges in credit, there is a sustained pace of growth,” Fenabrave president Arcelio Junior said.

Brazilian vehicle sales increase 11.9% to 184,960 units in February 2025 (ANFAVEA)
The Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) increased 11.9% YOY to 184,960 units in February 2025.
Vehicle sales in February consisted of 134,828 passenger cars; 39,214 light commercial vehicles; 8,967 trucks; and 1,951 buses.
Among passenger vehicle sales by brand in the month, FCA sold 30,232 units (22.4% share), VW sold 22,131 units (16.4%), GM sold 13,149 units (9.8%), Toyota sold 12,914 units (9.6%) and Hyundai sold 11,316 units (8.4%).
Among light commercial vehicle sales by brand in the month, FCA sold 18,390 units (46.9% share), VW sold 5,290 units (13.5%), Toyota sold 3,057 units (7.8%), GM sold 2,860 units (7.3%) and Ford sold 2,662 units (6.8%).
The VW Polo was the best-selling passenger vehicle in February with 7,961 units sold, followed by the VW T Cross with 6,555 units, Fiat Argo with 6,307 units, Fiat Mobi with 5,549 units, Toyota Corolla Cross with 5,351 units, Hyundai Creta with 4,962 units, and Renault Kwid with 4,908 units.
The Fiat Strada was the best-selling commercial vehicle in February with 10,266 units sold, followed by the VW Saveiro with 4,701 units, Fiat Toro with 3,649 units, Toyota Hilux with 3,057 units, Ford Ranger with 2,249 units, RAM Rampage with 1,854 units, and Chevrolet Montana with 1,531 units.
In ANFAVEA's sales report by fuel type, sales of flexible fuel vehicles were up 14.1% y/y to 138,786 units (77.4% share), diesel vehicles were down 1.9% to 16,060 units (9.0%), gasoline vehicles increased 17.3% to 8,324 units (4.6%), hybrid vehicles increased 82.1% to 6,013 units (3.4%), Plug-in hybrid vehicles increased 63.3% to 5,732 units (3.2%) and electric vehicles increased 23.7% to 4,492 units (2.5%).
Cumulative sales for the first two months of the year were up 9.0% y/y to 356,208 units.

Brazilian vehicle sales increase 6.0% to 171,248 units in January 2025 (ANFAVEA)
The Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) increased 6.0% YOY to 171,248 units in January 2025.
Vehicle sales in January consisted of 123,407 passenger cars; 36,647 light commercial vehicles; 9,410 trucks; and 1,784 buses.
Among passenger vehicle sales by brand in the month, FCA sold 28,762 units (23.3% share), VW sold 17,527 units (14.2%), GM sold 15,940 units (12.9%), Hyundai sold 9,597 units (7.8%) and Toyota sold 7,921 units (6.4%).
Among light commercial vehicle sales by brand in the month, FCA sold 16,575 units (45.2% share), Toyota sold 3,748 units (10.2%), GM sold 3,716 units (10.1%), VW sold 3,599 units (9.8%) and Ford sold 3,032 units (8.3%).
The VW Polo was the best-selling passenger vehicle in January with 5,801 sales, followed by the Chevrolet Onix with 5,576 sales, Chevrolet Tracker with 5,416 sales, VW T Cross with 5,312 sales, Fiat Argo with 5,173 sales, Hyundai Creta with 5,149 sales, and Nissan Kicks with 4,458 sales.
The Fiat Strada was the best-selling commercial vehicle in January with 8,777 sales, followed by the Toyota Hilux with 3,747 sales, Fiat Toro with 3,451 sales, VW Saveiro with 2,911 sales, Ford Ranger with 2,619 sales, Chevrolet S10 with 2,073 sales, and Chevrolet Montana with 1,590 sales.
In ANFAVEA's sales report by fuel type, sales of flexible fuel vehicles were down 1.9% y/y to 115,573 units (72.2% share), diesel vehicles were up 21.4% to 19,140 units (12.0%), gasoline vehicles increased 32.3% to 8,846 units (5.5%), hybrid vehicles increased 61.5% to 6,265 units (3.9%), Plug-in hybrid vehicles increased 72.5% to 6,536 units (4.1%) and electric vehicles decreased 15.2% to 3,694 units (2.3%).
On January 17, Scotiabank published its forecast for full-year Brazilian sales of 2.55 million units in 2025 and 2.59 million units in 2026.
“The month of January is historically worse than December, as it is a period with unique characteristics that influence the performance of registrations, since, at this time, the family budget is affected by expenses such as IPVA, enrollments and school supplies, in addition to being a time when many consumers go on vacation and end up postponing the decision to buy vehicles. Still, we had a positive result from January 2024,” Arcelio Junior, president of Fenabrave, said.
