Brazilian vehicle sales up 3.6% in December, up 14.1% in 2024 (ANFAVEA)
The Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automotores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian new vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) in December increased 3.6% year-over-year (y/y) to 257,431 units and full-year sales of 2,634,904 vehicles in 2024 were up 14.1% from 2023’s accumulated total.
For all of 2024, passenger car sales increased 13.2% to 1,948,681 units, light commercial vehicles were up 17.4% to 538,855 units, trucks were up 15.7% to 124,933 and buses were up 9.8% to 22,435 units.
Among passenger vehicle manufacturers, FCA sold 411,450 units (21.1% share), VW sold 336,076 units (17.2%), GM sold 258,639 units (13.3%).
Among light commercial vehicle manufacturers, FCA sold 257,222 units (47.7%), VW sold 64,379 units (11.9%) and GM sold 56,454 units (10.5%).
In ANFAVEA's sales report by fuel type in 2024, sales of flexible-fuel vehicles was up 8.7% y/y to 1,967,353 units (79.1% share), diesel vehicles were up 11.4% from a year ago with 240,458 units (9.7%), gasoline vehicles jumped 69.0% to 102,388 units (4.1%), hybrid increased 32.4% to 56,193 units (2.3%) and EV surged 219.2% to 61,535 units (2.5%).
The VW Polo was the best-selling passenger vehicle in full-year 2024 with 140,177 units, followed by Chevrolet Onix with 97,503 units, Hyundai HB20 with 97,079 units, Fiat Argo with 91,139 units, VW T-Cross with 83,990 units, Chevrolet Tracker with 69,431 units, and Hyundai Creta with 69,116 units.
The Fiat Strada was the best-selling LCV in 2024 with 144,684 units, followed by the VW Saveiro with 56,984 units, Fiat Toro with 53,856 units, Toyota Hilux with 50,010 units, Ford Ranger with 31,860 units, Chevrolet Montana with 27,724 units, and Chevrolet S10 with 27,402 units.

Brazilian vehicle sales up 19.2% to 253,499 units in November 2024 (ANFAVEA)
The Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian vehicle units (including trucks and buses) increased 19.2% YOY to 253,499 units in November 2024.
Vehicle units in November consisted of 193,747 passenger cars; 47,716 light commercial vehicles; 10,169 trucks; and 1,867 buses.
Among passenger vehicle units by brand in the month, FCA sold 39,481 units (20.4% share), VW sold 34,376 units (17.7%), GM sold 25,370 units (13.1%), Hyundai sold 25,173 units (13.0%) and Renault sold 13,432 units (6.9%).
Among light commercial vehicle units by brand in the month, FCA sold 22,259 units (46.6% share), VW sold 6,915 units (14.5%), GM sold 4,891 units (10.3%), Ford sold 3,985 units (8.4%) and Toyota sold 3,828 units (8.0%).
The VW Polo was the best-selling passenger vehicle in November with 14,711 units, followed by the Hyundai HB20 with 12,353 units, Fiat Argo with 10,298 units, Chevrolet Onix with 10,253 units, VW T Cross with 9,468 units, Renault Kwid with 6,812 units, and Hyundai HB20S with 6,652 units.
The Fiat Strada was the best-selling commercial vehicle in November with 12,361 units, followed by the VW Saveiro with 6,076 units, Fiat Toro with 4,586 units, Toyota Hilux with 3,828 units, Ford Ranger with 3,318 units, Chevrolet S10 with 2,747 units, and Chevrolet Montana with 2,082 units.
In ANFAVEA's sales report by fuel type, sales of flexible fuel vehicles were up 16.6% y/y to 192,921 units (79.9% share), diesel vehicles were up 11.6% to 21,359 units (8.8%), gasoline vehicles increased 51.2% to 10,050 units (4.2%), hybrid vehicles increased 55.6% to 5,453 units (2.3%), plug-in hybrid vehicles increased 60.9% to 6,273 units (2.6%) and electric vehicles increased 69.2% to 5,407 units (2.2%).
Cumulative sales for the eleven months of the year were up 15.4% y/y to 2,377,473 units.
On November 13, Scotiabank maintained its previous October forecast, estimating full-year Brazilian sales of 2.27 million units in 2024 and 2.38 million units in 2025.
“Credit plays an important role in these numbers. Both retail and corporate sales have been positive and above our initial expectations,” commented the president of Fenabrave, José Maurício Andreta Júnior.

Brazilian vehicle sales up 21.6% to 264,949 units in October 2024 (ANFAVEA)
The Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian vehicle units (including trucks and buses) increased 21.6% YOY to 264,949 units in October 2024.
Vehicle units in October consisted of 195,235 passenger cars; 54,920 light commercial vehicles; 12,218 trucks; and 2,576 buses.
Among passenger vehicle units by brand in the month, FCA sold 40,368 units (20.7% share), VW sold 35,309 units (18.1%), GM sold 23,678 units (12.1%), Hyundai sold 22,893 units (11.7%) and Toyota sold 15,891 units (8.1%).
Among light commercial vehicle units by brand in the month, FCA sold 26,095 units (47.5% share), VW sold 6,773 units (12.3%), GM sold 5,585 units (10.2%), Ford sold 4,738 units (8.6%) and Toyota sold 4,737 units (8.6%).
The VW Polo was the best-selling passenger vehicle in October with 14,969 units, followed by the Hyundai HB20 with 10,795 units, Fiat Argo with 9,312 units, VW T Cross with 9,176 units, Chevrolet Onix with 8,868 units, Hyundai Creta with 7,761 units, and Chevrolet Tracker with 6,841 units.
The Fiat Strada was the best-selling commercial vehicle in October with 14,641 units, followed by the VW Saveiro with 5,621 units, Fiat Toro with 5,438 units, Toyota Hilux with 4,736 units, Ford Ranger with 3,817 units, Chevrolet Montana with 2,837 units, and Chevrolet S10 with 2,660 units.
In ANFAVEA's sales report by fuel type, sales of flexible fuel vehicles were up 16.3% y/y to 198,647 units (79.4% share), diesel vehicles were up 22.7% to 24,613 units (9.8%), gasoline vehicles increased 67.8% to 10,864 units (4.3%), hybrid vehicles increased 11.2% to 4,296 units (1.7%), plug-in hybrid vehicles increased 69.6% to 5,627 units (2.2%) and electric vehicles increased 157.7% to 6,108 units (2.4%).
Cumulative sales for the ten months of the year were up 15.0% y/y to 2,123,974 units.
On October 9, Scotiabank maintained its previous September forecast, estimating full-year Brazilian sales of 2.27 million units in 2024 and 2.38 million units in 2025.
“The supply of credit continues to boost cars and light commercials, with approval rate of the proposals by 75%,” said the president of Fenabrave, José Maurício Andreta Júnior.

Brazilian vehicle sales increase 19.5% to 236,334 units in September 2024 (ANFAVEA)
The Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) increased 19.5% YOY to 236,334 units in September 2024.
Vehicle sales in September consisted of 171,686 passenger cars; 51,189 light commercial vehicles; 11,455 trucks; and 2,004 buses.
Among passenger vehicle sales by brand in the month, FCA sold 37,956 units (22.1% share), VW sold 29,546 units (17.2%), GM sold 22,415 units (13.1%), Toyota sold 14,793 units (8.6%) and Hyundai sold 14,475 units (8.4%).
Among light commercial vehicle sales by brand in the month, FCA sold 24,550 units (48.0% share), VW sold 5,666 units (11.1%), GM sold 5,260 units (10.3%), Toyota sold 5,121 units (10.0%) and Ford sold 3,579 units (7.0%).
The VW Polo was the best-selling passenger vehicle in September with 12,355 units, followed by the Chevrolet Onix with 8,610 units, VW T Cross with 8,543 units, Fiat Argo with 8,421 units, Hyundai HB20 with 6,966 units, Chevrolet Tracker with 6,179 units, and Fiat Mobi with 5,860 units.
The Fiat Strada was the best-selling commercial vehicle in September with 14,240 units, followed by the Toyota Hilux with 5,118 units, Fiat Toro with 4,925 units, VW Saveiro with 4,656 units, Ford Ranger with 2,893 units, Chevrolet S10 with 2,661 units, and Chevrolet Montana with 2,522 units.
In ANFAVEA's sales report by fuel type, sales of flexible fuel vehicles were up 13.5% y/y to 178,144 units (79.9% share), diesel vehicles were up 34.3% to 22,927 units (10.3%), gasoline vehicles increased 70.4% to 8,478 units (3.8%), hybrid vehicles increased 10.0% to 4,101 units (1.8%), Plug-in hybrid vehicles increased 55.9% to 4,529 units (2.0%) and electric vehicles increased 157.0% to 4,696 units (2.1%).
Cumulative sales for the nine months of the year were up 14.1% y/y to 1,859,025 units.
On September 18, Scotiabank maintained its previous July forecast, estimating full-year Brazilian sales of 2.27 million units in 2024 and 2.38 million units in 2025.
The performance reflects the improvement in credit conditions, the heated labor market, with increased income, in addition to the renewal of fleets of car rental companies, according to the Brazilian dealer association Federacao Nacional da Distribuicao de Veiculos Automotores (Fenabrave).

Brazilian vehicle sales increased 14.3% to 237,382 units in August 2024 (ANFAVEA)
The Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) increased 14.3% YOY to 237,382 units in August 2024.
Vehicle sales in August consisted of 171,021 passenger cars; 52,429 light commercial vehicles; 11,526 trucks; and 2,406 buses.
Among passenger vehicle sales by brand in the month, FCA sold 35,490 units (20.8% share), VW sold 30,934 units (18.1%), GM sold 23,498 units (13.7%), Hyundai sold 16,656 units (9.7%) and Toyota sold 14,245 units (8.3%).
Among light commercial vehicle sales by brand in the month, FCA sold 27,355 units (52.2% share), VW sold 6,006 units (11.5%), Toyota sold 4,733 units (9.0%), GM sold 4,524 units (8.6%) and Ford sold 3,628 units (6.9%).
The VW Polo was the best-selling passenger vehicle in August with 14,274 sales, followed by the Chevrolet Onix with 9,018 sales, Fiat Argo with 7,768 sales, VW T Cross with 7,118 sales, Hyundai HB20 with 7,103 sales, Chevrolet Tracker with 6,416 sales, and Hyundai Creta with 5,962 sales.
The Fiat Strada was the best-selling commercial vehicle in August with 16,423 sales, followed by the Fiat Toro with 5,549 sales, VW Saveiro with 5,519 sales, Toyota Hilux with 4,730 sales, Ford Ranger with 2,782 sales, Chevrolet Montana with 2,362 sales, and Chevrolet S10 with 2,098 sales.
In ANFAVEA's sales report by fuel type, sales of flexible fuel vehicles were up 9.8% y/y to 179,340 units (80.3% share), diesel vehicles were up 11.9% to 21,408 units (9.6%), gasoline vehicles increased 57.6% to 8,056 units (3.6%), hybrid vehicles decreased 8.1% to 4,210 units (1.9%), Plug-in hybrid vehicles increased 48.2% to 5,341 units (2.4%) and electric vehicles increased 336.6% to 5,095 units (2.3%).
Cumulative sales for the eight months of the year were up 13.3% y/y to 1,622,691 units.

Brazilian vehicle sales increase 7.0% to 241,336 units in July 2024 (ANFAVEA)
The Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) increased 7.0% YOY to 241,336 units in July 2024.
Vehicle sales in July consisted of 178,068 passenger cars; 49,428 light commercial vehicles; 11,350 trucks; and 2,490 buses.
Among passenger vehicle sales by brand in July, FCA sold 39,605 units (22.2% share), VW sold 31,807 units (17.9% share), GM sold 21,635 units (12.1%), Hyundai sold 17,557 units (9.9%), Toyota sold 15,225 units (8.6% share), Honda sold 8,430 units (4.7% share), and Renault sold 8,400 units (4.7%).
Among light commercial vehicle sales by brand in July, FCA sold 25,482 units (51.6% share), VW sold 5,104 vehicles (10.3% share), Toyota sold 4,761 units (9.6%), GM sold 4,434 units (9.0% share), Ford sold 3,329 vehicles (6.7% share), Renault sold 2,202 units (4.5% share) and HPE (Mitsubishi) sold 1,066 units (2.2% share).
The VW Polo was the best-selling passenger vehicle in July with 12,543 sales, followed by the Fiat Argo with 8,663 sales, VW T Cross with 8,185 sales, Chevrolet Onix with 7,423 sales, Hyundai Creta with 7,281 sales, Hyundai HB20 with 7,228 sales, and Fiat Mobi with 6,807 sales.
The Fiat Strada was the best-selling commercial vehicle in July with 14,192 sales, followed by the Fiat Toro with 5,647 sales, Toyota Hilux with 4,760 sales, VW Saveiro with 4,385 sales, Ford Ranger with 2,685 sales, Chevrolet Montana with 2,370 sales, and RAM Rampage with 2,136 sales.
In ANFAVEA's sales report by fuel type, sales of flexible fuel vehicles were down 2.9% y/y to 181,442 units (79.8% share), diesel vehicles were up 29.5% to 21,741 units (9.6% share), gasoline vehicles increased 92.8% to 9,006 units (4.0% share), hybrid vehicles increased 18.2% to 4,697 units (2.1% share), plug-in hybrid vehicles increased 132.9% to 5,912 units (2.6% share) and electric vehicles surged 396.6% to 4,698 units (2.1% share).
Cumulative sales for the seven months of the year were up 13.2% y/y to 1,385,309 units.
On July 11, Scotiabank maintained its previous June forecast, estimating full-year Brazilian sales of 2.27 million units in 2024 and 2.38 million units in 2025.
Fenabrave projects that vehicle registrations should rise 14.7% this year, to 2.65 million units. Commenting on these figures, the president of Fenabrave, José Mauricio Andreta Junior, said that the accumulated total for the seven months reveals growth in line with our projections for 2024, and the supply of credit continues to have a positive influence on sales.

Brazilian vehicle sales increased 13.1% to 214,304 units in June 2024 (ANFAVEA)
The Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) in June 2024 of 214,304 units represented an increase of 13.1% from June 2023.
Vehicle sales in June consisted of 163,827 passenger cars; 38,757 light commercial vehicles; 9,982 trucks; and 1,738 buses.
Among passenger vehicle manufacturers, FCA sold 33,456 units (20.4% share), VW sold 25,956 units (15.8%), GM sold 24,055 units (14.7%), Hyundai sold 19,377 units (11.8%) and Toyota sold 13,598 units (8.3%). Among light commercial vehicle manufacturers, FCA sold 17,535 units (45.2% share), GM sold 4,616 units (11.9%), Toyota sold 3,896 units (10.1%), VW sold 3,887 units (10.0%), Ford sold 3,690 units (9.5%).
The Hyundai HB20 was the best-selling passenger vehicle in June with 9,760 sales, followed by the VW Polo with 9,683 sales, Chevrolet Onix with 8,852 sales, Fiat Argo with 7,423 sales, Chevrolet Onix Plus with 6,538 sales, Fiat Mobi with 6,007 sales, and VW T Cross with 5,936 sales.
The Fiat Strada was the best-selling commercial vehicle in June with 7,551 sales, followed by the Fiat Toro with 4,780 sales, Toyota Hilux with 3,895 sales, VW Saveiro with 3,182 sales, Ford Ranger with 3,026 sales, Chevrolet Montana with 2,349 sales, and Chevrolet S10 with 2,197 sales.
In ANFAVEA's sales report by fuel type, sales of flexible fuel vehicles were up 5.8% y/y to 160,682 units (79.3% share), diesel vehicles were up 12.6% to 19,181 units (9.5%), gasoline vehicles increased 76.9% to 8,334 units (4.1%), hybrid vehicles increased 36.1% to 4,396 units (2.2%), Plug-in hybrid vehicles increased 102.3% to 4,809 units (2.4%) and electric vehicles increased 738.5% to 5,182 units (2.6%).
Cumulative sales for the six months of the year were up 14.6% y/y to 1,143,973 units.
On June 11, Scotiabank maintained its previous June forecast, estimating full-year Brazilian sales of 2.27 million units in 2024 and 2.38 million units in 2025.

Brazilian vehicle sales increased 10.0% to 194,256 units in May 2024 (ANFAVEA)
The Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) in May 2024 of 194,256 units represented an increase of 10.0% from May 2023.
Vehicle sales in May consisted of 144,052 passenger cars; 39,374 light commercial vehicles; 9,547 trucks; and 1,283 buses.
Among passenger vehicle manufacturers, FCA sold 30,526 units (21.2% share), VW sold 23,393 units (16.2%), GM sold 21,121 units (14.7%), Hyundai sold 15,560 units (10.8%) and Toyota sold 11,677 units (8.1%).
Among light commercial vehicle manufacturers, FCA sold 18,836 units (47.8% share), GM sold 4,690 units (11.9%), VW sold 4,143 units (10.5%), Toyota sold 3,394 units (8.6%), Ford sold 2,973 units (7.6%).
The VW Polo was the best-selling passenger vehicle in May with 8,484 sales, followed by the Chevrolet Onix with 7,901 sales, Hyundai HB20 with 6,691 sales, VW T Cross with 6,501 sales, Fiat Mobi with 6,148 sales, Nissan Kicks with 5,910 sales, and Hyundai Creta with 5,739 sales.
The Fiat Strada was the best-selling commercial vehicle in May with 10,973 sales, followed by the Fiat Toro with 4,315 sales, VW Saveiro with 3,557 sales, Toyota Hilux with 3,393 sales, Chevrolet S10 with 2,311 sales, Ford Ranger with 2,306 sales, and Chevrolet Montana with 2,306 sales.
In ANFAVEA's sales report by fuel type, sales of flexible fuel vehicles were up 6.4% y/y to 144,744 units (78.9% share), diesel vehicles were down 8.2% to 17,259 units (9.4%), gasoline vehicles increased 54.7% to 7,816 units (4.3%), hybrid vehicles increased 37.8% to 4,717 units (2.6%), Plug-in hybrid vehicles increased 55.3% to 3,720 units (2.0%) and electric vehicles increased 747.5% to 5,170 units (2.8%).
Cumulative sales for the five months of the year were up 14.9% y/y to 929,669 units.
In May 9, Scotiabank maintained its previous April forecast, estimating full-year Brazilian sales of 2.27 million units in 2024 and 2.38 million units in 2025.

Brazilian vehicle sales increase 37.4% to 220,842 units in April (ANFAVEA)
The Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) in April 2024 of 220,842 units represented an increase of 37.4% from April 2023.
Vehicle sales in April consisted of 164,385 passenger cars; 43,963 light commercial vehicles; 10,758 trucks; and 1,736 buses.
Among passenger vehicle manufacturers, FCA sold 34,277 units (20.9% share), VW sold 27,821 units (16.9%), GM sold 24,764 units (15.1%), Hyundai sold 15,594 units (9.5%) and Toyota sold 12,639 units (7.7%).
Among light commercial vehicle manufapcturers, FCA sold 19,178 units (43.6% share), VW sold 5,621 units (12.8%), GM sold 5,096 units (11.6%), Toyota sold 4,793 units (10.9%), Ford sold 2,978 units (6.8%).
The VW Polo was the best-selling passenger vehicle in April with 12,434 sales, followed by the Chevrolet Onix with 9,087 sales, Fiat Argo with 8,599 sales, Hyundai HB20 with 8,194 sales, Chevrolet Onix Plus with 7,049 sales, VW T Cross with 6,224 sales, and GM Tracker with 5,670 sales.
The Fiat Strada was the best-selling commercial vehicle in April with 11,497 sales, followed by the VW Saveiro with 5,373 sales, Toyota Hilux with 4,792 sales, Fiat Toro with 3,896 sales, GM Montana with 2,534 sales, Chevrolet S10 with 2,473 sales, and Ford Ranger with 2,382 sales.
In ANFAVEA's sales report by fuel type, sales of flexible fuel vehicles were up 31.1% y/y to 165,610 units (79.5% share), diesel vehicles were up 20.5% to 19,957 units (9.6%), gasoline vehicles increased 96.5% to 7,581 units (3.6%), hybrid vehicles increased 57.1% to 4,893 units (2.3%), Plug-in hybrid vehicles increased 224.2% to 3,608 units (1.7%) and electric vehicles increased 1,100.5% to 6,699 units (3.2%).
On April 9, Scotiabank maintained its previous March forecast, estimating full-year Brazilian sales of 2.27 million units in 2024 and 2.38 million units in 2025.

Brazilian vehicle sales decrease 5.7% to 187,731 units in March (ANFAVEA)
The Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) in March 2024 of 187,731 units represented an decrease of 5.7% from March 2023.
Vehicle sales in March consisted of 137,918 passenger cars; 38,312 light commercial vehicles; 9,887 trucks; and 1,614 buses.
Among passenger vehicle manufacturers, FCA sold 29,174 units (21.2% share), VW sold 25,908 units (18.8%), GM sold 17,488 units (12.7%), Toyota sold 11,436 units (8.3%) and Hyundai sold 10,826 units (7.8%). Among light commercial vehicle manufacturers, FCA sold 18,520 units (48.3% share), VW sold 4,872 units (12.7%), GM sold 3,977 units (10.4%), Toyota sold 3,499 units (9.1%), Renault sold 2,020 units (5.3%).
The VW Polo was the best-selling passenger vehicle in March with 11,943 sales, followed by the Chevrolet Onix with 7,753 sales, Fiat Argo with 6,850 sales, VW T Cross with 5,462 sales, Hyundai HB20 with 5,288 sales, Nissan Kicks with 5,034 sales, and Chevrolet Tracker with 4,711 sales.
The Fiat Strada was the best-selling commercial vehicle in March with 9,990 sales, followed by the VW Saveiro with 4,607 sales, Fiat Toro with 3,957 sales, Toyota Hilux with 3,498 sales, GM Montana with 2,165 sales, Ram Rampage with 2,133 sales, and Chevrolet S10 with 1,740 sales.
In ANFAVEA's sales report by fuel type, sales of flexible fuel vehicles were down 10.5% y/y to 138,786 units (78.8% share), diesel vehicles were down 21.4% to 16,060 units (9.1%), gasoline vehicles increased 57.8% to 7,776 units (4.4%), hybrid vehicles increased 32.4% to 4,454 units (2.5%), Plug-in hybrid vehicles increased 48.4% to 3,022 units (1.7%) and electric vehicles increased 950.0% to 6,132 units (3.5%).
On March 8, Scotiabank maintained its previous January forecast, estimating full-year Brazilian sales of 2.27 million units in 2024 and 2.38 million units in 2025.

Brazilian vehicle sales increase 27.1% to 165,225 units in February (ANFAVEA)
The Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) in February 2024 of 165,225 units represented an increase of 27.1% from February 2023.
Vehicle sales in February consisted of 120,337 passenger cars; 35,174 light commercial vehicles; 8,376 trucks; and 1,338 buses.
Among passenger vehicle manufacturers, FCA sold 29,388 units (24.4% share), VW sold 19,535 units (16.2%), GM sold 12,542 units (10.4%), Hyundai sold 11,877 units (9.9%) and Toyota sold 10,036 units (8.3%). Among light commercial vehicle manufacturers, FCA sold 16,062 units (45.7% share), VW sold 4,373 units (12.4%), GM sold 4,006 units (11.4%), Toyota sold 3,437 units (9.8%), Ford sold 2,290 units (6.5%).
The VW Polo was the best-selling passenger vehicle in February with 8,063 sales, followed by the Fiat Argo with 6,507 sales, Fiat Mobi with 6,288 sales, Renault Kwid with 6,046 sales, Hyundai HB20 with 5,287 sales, Hyundai Creta with 4,385 sales and Chevrolet Onix with 4,299 sales.
The Fiat Strada was the best-selling commercial vehicle in February with 8,568 sales, followed by the VW Saveiro with 4,127 sales, Toyota Hilux with 3,436 sales, Fiat Toro with 3,044 sales, Ram Rampage with 2,101 sales, Chevrolet S10 with 2,020 sales, and Ford Ranger with 1,885 sales.
In ANFAVEA's sales report by fuel type, sales of flexible fuel vehicles were up 22.4% y/y to 121,596 units (78.2% share), diesel vehicles were up 24.1% to 16,371 units (10.5%), gasoline vehicles increased 132.3% to 7,099 units (4.6%), hybrid vehicles increased 35.0% to 3,304 units (2.1%), Plug-in hybrid vehicles increased 189.0% to 3,509 units (2.3%) and electric vehicles increased 469.3% to 3,632 units (2.3%).
On February 8, Scotiabank maintained its previous January forecast, estimating full-year Brazilian sales of 2.27 million units in 2024 and 2.38 million units in 2025.

Brazilian vehicle sales increase 13.1% to 161,615 units in January (ANFAVEA)
The Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) in January 2024 of 161,615 units represented an increase of 13.1% from January 2023.
Vehicle sales in January consisted of 118,523 passenger cars; 33,724 light commercial vehicles; 8,217 trucks; and 1,151 buses.
Among passenger vehicle manufacturers, FCA sold 25,245 units (21.3% share), VW sold 18,154 units (15.3%), GM sold 15,070 units (12.7%), Hyundai sold 14,079 units (11.9%) and Toyota sold 10,519 units (8.9%). Among light commercial vehicle manufacturers, FCA sold 15,522 units (46.0% share), VW sold 3,991 units (11.8%), GM sold 3,852 units (11.4%), Toyota sold 3,280 units (9.7%), Ford sold 2,096 units (6.2%).
The Hyundai HB20 was the best-selling passenger vehicle in January with 7,478 sales, followed by the VW Polo with 7,258 sales, Chevrolet Onix with 5,714 sales, Hyundai Creta with 4,898 sales, Fiat Argo with 4,696 sales, GM Tracker with 4,280 sales and Nissan Kicks 4,074 sales.
The Fiat Strada was the best-selling LCV in January with 8,022 sales, followed by the VW Saveiro with 3,631 sales, Toyota Hilux with 3,277 sales, Fiat Toro with 3,219 sales, GM Montana with 1,792 sales, Ford Ranger with 1,776 sales, and Ram Rampage with 1,685 sales.
In ANFAVEA's sales report by fuel type, sales of flexible fuel vehicles were up 8.6% y/y to 117,776 units (77.4% share), diesel vehicles were up 5.8% to 15,762 units (10.4%), gasoline vehicles increased 134.8% to 6,687 units (4.4%), hybrid vehicles increased 82.2% to 3,879 units (2.5%), Plugin hybrid vehicles increased 135.3% to 3,789 units (2.5%) and electric vehicles increased 477.5% to 4,354 units (2.9%).
As of January 17, Scotiabank expected that Brazil's full-year sales for 2024 and 2025 will be 2.27 million and 2.38 million, respectively. Full-year sales in 2023 were 2,308,689 units, up 9.7% from the previous year.
