Low Carbon Transportation Forum

The 1st Shanghai International Carbon Neutrality Expo in Technologies, Products and Achievements was held at the National Exhibition Center (Shanghai) from June 11-14, 2023. Consisting of three parts: exhibition, forum, and business matching, the 100,000-square-meter exhibition was attended by more than 600 companies from China and abroad, and attracted a total of over 80,000 visitors.

The Expo is the first "carbon neutral" themed expo in China, covering six sectors: energy transformation, energy conservation and efficiency improvement, low-carbon transportation, circular economy, low-carbon services, and exploration and practice. In the low-carbon transportation sector, the "2023 Shanghai International Low Carbon Smart Mobility Exhibition (Green and Smart Auto Shanghai 2023)" was held in parallel, with exhibitors including SAIC, FAW, Dongfeng, Changan, Geely, Great Wall, BYD, NIO, Hozon Auto, Tesla, VW, BMW, GM, Nissan, etc., and suppliers such as Bosch, FORVIA, Valeo, and Webasto.

During the event period, nearly 40 events were held simultaneously, consisting of one keynote forum, one scientific forum, and four industry or thematic forums. Among them, the Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shanghai (CCPIT Shanghai), the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), and the China Society of Automotive Engineers organized the Low Carbon Transportation Sector Forum on "Green Development of Transportation Sector under the Support of Bi-Carbon (Carbon Peak Out and Carbon Neutral)" and the "Update and Development of Green Low Carbon Transformation in the Automotive Industry Forum" held on June 12. This report summarizes the presentations of Geely, Changan, FAW, Dongfeng (Mengshi), and Yutong Bus.

Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd. (Geely) is delving deeply into methanol vehicle technologies and has already released a methanol heavy-duty truck and a methanol hybrid sedan, and is building a methanol industrial chain system. The plan is to make the entire value chain carbon neutral by 2045 through two forms of energy: green electricity and green methanol. Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd. (Changan) is transforming itself into a smart low-carbon mobility company and plans to launch a new EV brand, Changan Qiyuan (Qiyuan), in 2023. The company also plans to build solar power generation systems at all of its plants, which is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 120,000 tons per year after completion. FAW Hongqi, the Hongqi brand of China FAW Group Co., Ltd. (FAW), will strive to promote a green and low-carbon drive battery large-scale supply chain, and will focus on digital management of the entire life cycle. The factory of the Mengshi Automobile Technology Company, which is under the umbrella of Dongfeng Motor Group Co., Ltd. (DFM), has reduced carbon emissions by over 4,600 tons each year and has established a carbon footprint management system for the entire life cycle of its products. Yutong Bus Co., Ltd. (Yutong Bus) focuses on BEV and FCV commercial vehicles, with cumulative sales of NEV (New Energy Vehicles) commercial vehicles exceeding 170,000 units. In addition, the company will independently develop and produce new energy core technologies.

Overall, each company is promoting green low-carbon initiatives from two main axes: the entire product life cycle and the entire production and manufacturing process. At the same time, the companies also focus on promoting the decarbonization of the supply chain, applying digitization technologies to management, and working in areas such as the development of standards.
