The 12th China Automotive Forum, organized by the China Association of Automotive Manufacturers (CAAM), was held in Shanghai's Jiading District from November 8-10, 2022. The forum was originally scheduled to take place in June, but was postponed to August due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and was finally held in November. This year's forum was themed “Gathering Strength and Stability, Building Up Momentum for a New Journey” and included one closed-door summit, one convention forum, and 16 thematic sessions.

Thematic Session 3, the "Integrated Development of Automobiles and Semiconductor Chips," was held on November 9. During the session, Mr. Yunfei EN, Chief Engineer of the 5th Electronics Research Institute of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), gave a presentation on the current status, challenges, and development of the automotive semiconductor industry. In its presentation, the MIIT analyzed the current state of the automotive chip industry and made recommendations for its development. During the session, the SAIC Group introduced the current use of Chinese chips within the group and the measures needed to promote the domestic production of automotive semiconductor chips. The GAC Group noted that the development of new E/E architecture is also creating new demand for chips, and that ensuring the stability of the supply chain of core components for automakers is key to the development of smart cars. This report presents the main contents of the thematic session.
