The 2022 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) returned to Detroit after a three-year hiatus, taking place from September 14 through September 25, 2022 at the Huntington Place exhibition hall. The COVID-19 pandemic had forced the show's cancellation in 2020 and 2021, though the Motor Bella exhibition served as a replacement in 2021. Organizers estimated approximately 400,000 people attended the 2022 NAIAS, though they stated that exact figures for the show would not be available. In contrast, the 2019 NAIAS had an attendance of 774,179 people.

While battery electric vehicles were heavily emphasized at the 2022 NAIAS, OEMS showcased various non-battery electric models representing themes of legacy, performance, and transition to electrification. A highlight of the 2022 NAIAS was Ford's debut of the seventh-generation Mustang, one of its most iconic vehicles. Lincoln displayed a refreshed Corsair with a plug-in hybrid powertrain option. Similarly, Stellantis showcased hybrids connecting the gap between combustion and battery electric models with the Dodge Hornet and special editions of the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe and Wrangler 4xe. Stellantis also debuted the special edition Chrysler 300C in preparation for the model's end of production.

GM's non-battery electric models were centered on variants furthering the performance and capability of existing models. The Chevrolet brand unveiled the Tahoe RST Performance Edition focused on power and showed the Silverado ZR2 Bison designed for off-road traversal. Cadillac showcased the Escalade-V, described as the most powerful full-size SUV available on the market. Outside of the Detroit Three, Toyota displayed the Crown, a hybrid sedan returning to North America for the first time since 1972.

This report is the second of two reports which focuses on the automotive content shown at the 2022 NAIAS. This report will highlight notable hybrid and combustion models shown by Ford, Stellantis, GM and Toyota. A report covering battery electric models and charging solutions shown at the 2022 NAIAS was previously released.
