Summary

  The Shanghai Motor Show 2019 (Dates: 18-25 April 2019, Press days: 16-17 April) was held with great fanfare at the National Exhibition and Convention Center near the Shanghai Hongqiao Airport. The event took place primarily at the National Exhibition and Convention Center across 12 halls, each of which had two levels, with a total floor space of 360,000 square meters, where more than 1,000 companies from 20 countries and regions from around the world exhibited. Nine halls were used to exhibit passenger cars, 1 hall for commercial vehicles and mobility related exhibits, and 2 halls for automotive components. The Shanghai Motor Show is a major show in terms of both size and quality, where many of the major automakers from around the world convened, including the leading automakers from Germany, the U.S., and Japan, as well as many of the major Chinese government-sponsored automakers such as Geely, GWM and BYD, where the many visitors were able to see the latest models, world premiere models, and China premiere models that were exhibited.

  The theme of this year’s show was "Create a Better Life", presenting opportunities and confidence to the global automotive market. MarkLines has conducted comprehensive coverage of the event and will issue a series of reports covering the OEMs. This report presents the exhibits of three German companies (VW, BMW, and Daimler). VW held the world premiere of its Teramont X, the world premiere of the Audi AI:ME concept car, and it unveiled the all-new Q3. In addition, the VW Group unveiled three models of the new JETTA brand that were just launched in February 2019. BMW unveiled the all-new BMW 3 Series sedan (standard and long-wheelbase models) that will be built locally for the Chinese market. Daimler celebrated the world premieres of the Mercedes-Benz close-to-production show car Concept GLB and Mercedes AMG A35 L 4 MATIC developed exclusively for China, and it also celebrated the China premieres of the EQC and the new GLE.
