German car sales rise 12.9% in May

On June 2, the Germany Federal Motor Vehicle Office (KBA) announced that there were 323,952 new passenger car registrations in May, an 12.9% increase from the same month last year.
Volkswagen brand sales of 60,339 units (18.6% market share) increased 8.8% in May compared to the same month in 2016.
Mercedes sales of 31,392 units (9.7% share) increased 25.2% from last year.
Audi sales of 27,080 units (8.4% share) increased 1.4% in May.
Ford sales of 23,579 units (7.3% share) increased 23.0% from last year.
BMW sales of 22,610 units (7.0% share) increased 6.9% from the same month last year.
Opel sales of 22,093 units (6.8% share) increased 3.9% in May.
Sales of 26,245 trucks in May represented a increase of 12.1% from the previous year’s results, while sales of 611 buses represented an increase of 28.4%.
In May, gasoline-powered vehicles accounted for a 56.8% market share, diesel vehicles had a 40.4% market share.
The VDA announced that monthly passenger car exports of 369,400 units had increased 7% and domestic production of 482,400 units had increased 8% from last May.
