On May 8, 2025, the GWM Tank 500 HEV, a 7-seat luxury hybrid 4×4, was launched in Malaysia at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 (MAS 2025).

Priced from MYR 328,800 (OTR without insurance), the HEV is imported from GWM's Rayong plant in Thailand.

The Tank 500 HEV is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 244 PS between 5,500 and 6,000 rpm and 380 Nm of torque from 1,700 to 4,000 rpm. Paired with a 106 PS/268 Nm electric motor and a 9-speed automatic transmission, the hybrid system delivers a combined output of 346 PS and 648 Nm, sent to all four wheels via a switchable four-wheel-drive system.

It also features advanced off-road technologies, 11 drive modes, and a plush interior with Nappa leather upholstery, dual large displays, a 12-speaker Infinity sound system, and a comprehensive suite of safety features.

Announced on May 8, 2025, Jaecoo Malaysia marked its first anniversary at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 with a rebranding, now operating as OMODA & JAECOO — Forged by Purpose.

Kicking off this new chapter, the OMODA C7 Neo Crossover made its dynamic local debut at MAS 2025.

Unlike the PHEV version showcased in Thailand at the motor show in March, the unit displayed in Malaysia is a pure petrol variant, identifiable by a single fuel filler cap on the passenger side. No technical specifications have been released at this time.

In Malaysia, the C7 is expected to follow the launch of the upcoming Jaecoo J8, which is already open for registrations of interest (ROI).

Announced on May 8, 2025, Proton captivated visitors at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 (MAS 2025) with a vibrant showcase themed “Inspiring Connections.”
Taking center stage was the public debut of Proton’s second all-electric vehicle, ahead of its official launch later this year. The new compact EV hatchback, named the eMas 5, features rounded styling, sweptback headlamps and taillights, and a distinctive C-pillar with horizontal accents, clearly indicating it is based on the Geely Star Wish (known as the Xingyuan in China).

While technical specifications have yet to be revealed, the eMas 5 is positioned as a bold and youthful addition to the local EV segment, complementing the more family-focused eMas 7. As Proton’s EV production plant in Tanjung Malim is scheduled to begin operations with the eMas 7 by the end of 2025, the eMas 5 is expected to launch first as a fully imported (CBU) model.

Proton’s booth also features the first-ever 5D Instagrammable Experience with the Proton S70, allowing visitors to design custom vehicle wraps on an interactive screen, which is then projected in real time onto a physical Proton S70. Additionally, a digital laser light show, a Malaysia Autoshow first, further highlights the brand’s focus on innovation and technology.
