MAHLE GmbH
Company Profile
Business Overview
-The Company is a leading supplier for future mobility, focusing on systems and components across all types of powertrains, filtration and thermal management systems, and electric and electronic components and systems.
-With the automotive industry in the midst of transformation based on multiple advanced technology trends including electrification, the Company has issued “MAHLE 2030+”, a new group strategy. The MAHLE 2030+ strategy focuses on three strategic core areas for the Company to expand its position in:
- In the first core area of electrification, the Company will focus on developing and manufacturing electric drive system and components, fuel cell components and electric vehicle battery components. It will also develop electric charging solutions and technologies to enable e-mobility across a variety of vehicles, including e-bikes and e-scooters to heavy-duty commercial vehicles.
- The Company’s second core strategic area is thermal management. The Company will utilize its expertise to develop systems to improve efficiency and performance for systems including the vehicle powertrain, electric vehicle batteries, and electric drives. The Company’s focus on thermal management will also be used to efficiently improve comfort within the vehicle cabin.
- The Company’s third strategic area of focus is for internal combustion engines. The Company will continue to develop and provide new components and technologies to enhance the efficiency of combustion engines, including those that can run on e-fuels or other sustainable fuels. It will look to optimize its cost structures and continue its existing relationships with customers in the field.
-For the fiscal year ended December 31, 2024, the Company was organized into five business units, three profit centers, and central service businesses as follows:
- Engine Systems and Components
- Filtration and Engine Peripherals
- Thermal Management
- Electronics and Mechatronics
- Aftermarket
- Profit centers and central service businesses
- Motorsports and Special Applications
- Large and Small Engine Components
- Industrial Thermal Management
- Central service businesses (Purchasing, Sales, Advanced Engineering, Human Resources, IT, and Finance and Accounting)
Net sales by division
-Since its establishment in 2013, the Company's Thermal Management business unit has grown at a significantly faster pace compared to the other business units within the Company, while also emerging as the largest business unit for the Company. The rapid growth of the business unit stems from acquisitions of various businesses including, for example, the majority share of Behr in 2013 and the Delphi Thermal business unit in 2015. In recent years, both the Thermal Management and the Electronics and Mechatronic business units have played a key role in the industry’s transition toward electric mobility through innovations in batteries, fuel cells, power electronics, electric powertrains, electric motors, and electronic and mechatronic systems.
-However, during the fiscal year ending December 31, 2024, the Thermal Management business unit’s sales declined due to lower market demand. Similarly, sales in the Electronics and Mechatronic business unit were affected by weaker demand in the Mechatronics segment, driven by a downturn in the e-mobility and e-bike markets.
-In the fiscal year ended December 31, 2024, the Thermal Management business unit had a sales decrease of 11.2% from the previous year, and the Electronics and Mechatronic decreased sales by 7.1% from the previous year. However, when accounting for consolidation and currency translation effects, sales declined by 9.9% in the Thermal Management business unit and by 5.7% in the Electronics and Mechatronics business unit.
*Figures other than the four main business units have been omitted from the chart.
Restructuring
-Effective January 1, 2025, the Company reduced its business units from five to three to enhance efficiency and accelerate the implementation of its MAHLE 2030+ strategy.
