TESLA starts import and sales of the Model S EV sedan in China

OEM Models Description
TESLA Model S  The imported EV was launched in China in April 2014 (the first 8 units were delivered officially in a ceremony at Tesla's office in Beijing on April 22). The company has set an annual sales goal of 5,000 units in 2014. Tesla plans to switch to local production in China in next 3-4 years. It has been reported, however, that the company has a long way to go before finding a local partner.
The starting price for the Model S with an 85kWh battery is CNY 734,000 (USD 118,000). The same model is sold in the U.S. for USD 71,000 before federal tax credits. The price will soar in China because of the value-added tax and import duties. Tesla hopes the Model S to be qualified for China's EV subsidies to help offset the taxes.
