 Production volume of new energy vehicles (electric vehicles [EVs], plug-in hybrid vehicles [PHVs], and fuel cell vehicle [FCVs]; excluding vehicles equipped with lead-acid batteries) in June 2016 increased by 78.5% year-over-year (y/y) and 48% month-over-month (m/m) to 44,549 units. Production volume exceeded 40,000 units for the first time in 2016. Looking at production volume of new energy vehicles by vehicle type, production volume of plug-in hybrid buses declined by 48.9% y/y. On the contrary, production volume of other vehicles increased both on a year-over-year and month-over-month bases, with electric special-purpose vehicles having the highest increase. Production volume of passenger EVs consecutively accounted for more than 50% of the new energy production share. Production volume of electric special-purpose vehicles exceeded 2,000 units and accounted for 5% (significantly increasing from the previous month of less than 1%) of the new energy production share. Production volume in the January to June 2016 period nearly doubled year-over-year, exceeding 150,000 units.
