Toyota Boshoku, NHK Spring, Lear, TS Tech, and Faurecia patent application technologies

2024/02/09

Summary

This report was prepared by MarkLines based on patent information from the "Technical Information Distribution Service - swimy" provided by Toyota Technical Development Corporation (TTDC), and reports on recent technology topics surrounding the auto industry. The two business areas of TTDC are intellectual property (IP) and measurement control solutions. The IP side of TTDC is involved in the collection and analysis of information on automotive technology developments globally, and provides services such as consulting for research planning, applying for patents in foreign languages, and technical translation.

In recent years, with the trend toward carbon neutrality, companies in the automotive industry are also developing various initiatives.

Among them, with regard to vehicle seats, although the seats themselves do not emit carbon dioxide during use, petroleum-derived materials are sometimes used for seat pads and covers, and carbon dioxide emissions must be reduced in the manufacturing and disposal stages.

Therefore, in this study, seat manufacturers are seen progressing with the development of seat materials that break away from petroleum-derived materials, and we focus on vehicle seat materials that mention carbon neutrality in the patent applications. Trends in patent applications and development items by seat manufacturers related to this issue are presented.

Note that the patent search targets seat suppliers. This is because many vehicle seats are supplied to vehicle OEMs by seat suppliers, rather than being manufactured in-house by the OEMs.
