Summary

This report was prepared by MarkLines based on patent information from the "Technical Information Distribution Service - swimy" provided by Toyota Technical Development Corporation (TTDC), and reports on recent technology topics surrounding the auto industry. The two business areas of TTDC are intellectual property (IP) and measurement control solutions. The intellectual property (IP) side of TTDC is involved in the collection and analysis of information on automotive technology developments globally, and provides services such as consulting for research planning, applying for patents in foreign languages, and technical translation.

The realization of autonomous driving requires ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) technology, which solves road traffic problems such as road traffic safety by communicating between vehicles, infrastructure, and people. ITS has a strong aspect as a social system, and standardization is being promoted from the viewpoint of ensuring user convenience. The ITS is also promoted in terms of user convenience. Standards have been formulated by various standardization organizations, including ISO (International Organization for Standardization).
This study focuses on ETSI (European Telecommunication Standards Institute), which has a large number of SEPs (Standard Essential Patents), among the standardization organizations that formulate ITS-related standards), and shows the trends of standards and SEPs in the ITS field.
