Software Series 9: What is Data Driven Development?

Collecting vast amounts of driving data and using it to create test scenarios

2023/12/18

Summary

A method called "data-driven development" is expanding in the development of autonomous driving systems. In the software development world, data-driven development is generally referred to as data-driven software development, but in the development of in-vehicle software, the term is often used in the development of ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) and autonomous driving software. In software for ADAS and autonomous driving, it is necessary to actually drive test vehicles and collect data under various conditions, and reflect the results in order to be able to respond to events that engineers may not have anticipated. However, the amount of actual driving data is enormous, and only a small portion of it is actually utilized. The challenge is how to retrieve the necessary data efficiently.
