Mr. Jinhua Zhang, President and Secretary-General of the Society of Automotive Engineers of China, chaired and declared the opening of the SAE China Congress.

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) of China Congress & Exhibition was held at the Shanghai Automobile Exhibition Center from October 22 to 24, 2019. For this year’s congress, 330 thematic presentations were solicited from lecturers in China and abroad, including many members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and 108 technical papers were presented. The congress was attended by more than 3,000 R&D engineering delegates from OEMs and parts suppliers in China and abroad, and more than 10,000 professionals from the automotive industry visited the exhibition.

The Chinese automotive market has been trending downwards since 2018, but the Chinese government and the automotive and related industries are on the road that China must take to achieve its goal of becoming an automotive giant, and regard the current period as one of transformation from that of increasing volumes to one of improving quality. The event successfully demonstrated, from the national governmental level to throughout the industry, confidence in the long-term growth of the Chinese automotive industry.

The main theme of the SAECCE was “Automobile Plus, Collaborative Innovation”, emphasizing that this theme will be key to seizing opportunities, challenging hot topics, and realizing industrial transformation and upgrading across all related industries. The congress consisted of technical sessions on the newest technologies and hot topics in the automotive industry such as the four new automotive technological megatrends (electrification, connected, intelligent, sharing; similar to CASE) as well as artificial intelligence (AI), intelligent networks, 5G, powertrains, new energy, safety and testing, and regulations. This report introduces summaries of the event and details of the keynote presentations held on the first day of the congress.
