After surpassing the 2 million unit mark in 2011, motorcycle production in Brazil is declining due to a worsening economy. Production fell 16.8% year-over-year in 2015 to 1.19 million units and 33.6% y/y in the first half of 2016 to 464,000 units. Sales dropped 16.8% y/y in 2015 to 1.19 million units, and 31.4% y/y in the first half of 2016 to 452,000 units.

Production in Taiwan is recovering slowly after the global economic crisis in 2009. However, it declined 4.8% y/y in 2015 to 1.12 million units as exports to Japan declined. Production declined 2.8% y/y in the first half of 2016. To boost domestic sales, the government introduced replacement incentives in January 2016. As a result, Taiwan's domestic sales increased 6.3% y/y in H1 2016 to 351 thousand units.

Pakistan's motorcycle production including three-wheelers was 1.36 million units in fiscal year 2016 (July 2015 to June 2016) with a sharp increase of 20.4% y/y.

Advanced markets saw their motorcycle market shrink significantly after the global economic crisis. This decline continued in Europe until it bottomed out in 2014 and the market rose 5.1% in 2015 to 1.2 million units. The U.S. market is recovering slowly but steadily and rose to 501,000 units in 2015, surpassing the half million units mark for the first time in six years. Japan's domestic sale in 2015 declined 9.6% y/y to 407,000 units due to a sharp decline in sales of the mopeds, the smallest motorcycle segment with an engine displacement up to 50 cc. Production continues to fall with a 12.6% decline y/y to 184,000 units in H1 2016.

Production in Japan, the mother country of major motorcycle manufacturers, declined 12.5% y/y to 522,000 units in 2015. Production increased 6.1% y/y to 268,000 units in H1 2016.
