The number of patent applications shows slight fluctuations between 2020 and 2022, but increases significantly to 521 in 2023. Looking at the number of patent applications filed by each company, Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) and Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (Honda) in Japan, and Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd. (Geely) and BYD Co., Ltd. (BYD) in China, have filed many applications.
Development subjects include themes such as "Adaptive power generation control and energy management for EREV/HV," "Electrical connection and disconnection fixing technology for EV battery packs," "Optimal configuration and comprehensive control for range extender EVs," and "Safe, high-efficiency, and integrated battery protection control for range-extended EVs."
By technology category, a large number of patent applications were filed for "highly efficient integrated powertrain control," "automatic hybrid driving mode setting system," and "multi-functional DC/DC converter and charging control technology.”
