August 2017 Malaysia vehicle sales down 1.0%

The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) has released vehicle sales data for the month of August 2017, where a total of 51,720 vehicles were delivered. This result represents an increase of 3,167 units or 6.5% from the month prior of July.
The association cites promotional campaigns organized by car companies and fulfillment of back orders for the surge in vehicle sales.
Compared to the same corresponding month in 2016, sales volume in August 2017 was 499 units or 1% lower.
In terms of total industry volume (TIV), the year-to-date figure as of August stands at 384,730 units, which is 4% higher than what was recorded during the same period last year (370,152 units).
For the month of September, the association expects similar results to what was obtained in August, because of the shorter working month and on-going promotion campaigns.
