Mexico sets all-time record sales in 2016, up 18.6%
According to AMIA, Mexican automobile sales in December were up 19.9% over last year, at 192,567 vehicles. Passenger cars were up 27.3% to 127,604 units, while SUVs and pickups were up 7.5% to 64,963 units. December sales marked the all-time high monthly record.
2016 annual sales were up 18.6% to 1,603,672 units. 2016 annual sales also marked the historical record.
Among by maker sales in 2016, Nissan is the market leader with 25.0% market share. GM follows with 19.2%, then VW Group with 15.4%. Toyota was 4th with 6.5% market share, and FCA was 5th with 6.5%. Toyota jumped from 6th in 2015 to 4th in 2016. Kia achieved a significant market share increase from 0.8% in 2015 to 3.6% in 2016.
By segment sales in 2016, the largest segment was Subcompact, up 20.9% y/y to 592,140 units. Chevrolet Aveo is the segment leader, followed by VW Vento. Compact car segment was the second largest with 380,575 units up 17.5%. Nissan Versa is the segment leader, followed by VW Jetta. The third largest segment was SUV with 312,125 units, up 17.8%. Nissan X-Trail leads the segment, followed by Chevrolet Trax.

Mexican vehicle sales rise 22.5% in November
On December 5, the Mexican automotive association AMIA reported that the 154,616 vehicles sold in November represented a 22.5% increase from the same month the previous year.
Of November’s sales totals, 102,695 passenger cars were sold and 51,921 light trucks were sold.
Sales of 1,411,105 vehicles in the first eleven months of 2016 represent an 18.5% increase from the same eleven-month period in 2015.
Nissan sales of 38,161 units in November had increased 28.3% from the same month last year.
Volkswagen sales increased 7.7% to 22,013 units.
General Motors sold 32,521 units in November, an increase of 39.4%.
Ford sold 8,400 units, an increase of 16.5%, and FCA sold 10,432 units, an increase of 5.3%.
Toyota sold 10,643 units in November, an increase of 16.1% from last year.
Kia sold 5,460 units, an increase of 143.0% from last November.

Mexican car sales increase 14.6% in October
On November 3, the Mexican automotive association AMIA reported that the 137,383 units sold in October represented a 14.6% increase from the same month the previous year.
Sales of 1,256,489 vehicles in the first ten months of 2016 represent an 18.0% increase from the same ten-month period in 2015.
Nissan sales of 35,637 units in October had increased 10.2% from the same month last year.
Volkswagen sales increased 7.0% to 20,578 units.
General Motors sold 25,481 units in October, an increase of 16.4%.
Ford sold 8,823 units, an increase of 28.2%, and FCA sold 8,648 units, an increase of 1.1%.
Toyota sold 8,573 units in October, an increase of 9.6% from last year.
Kia sold 6,011 units, an increase of 228.6% from last October.

Mexican sales up 18.1% in September
On October 6, the Mexican automotive association AMIA reported that the 131,443 units sold in September represented a 18.1% increase over the same month last year.
Year-to-date sales of 1,119,106 vehicles represent an 18.4% increase from the same nine-month period in 2015.
The market leaders all benefitted in September, as Nissan sales were up 15.1% to 32,396 units, General Motors sales were up 18.7% to 23,939 units, and Volkswagen Group sales were up 9.7% to 20,384 units.
Among the other Japanese companies, Toyota sales increased 16.0% to 8,158 units and Honda sales increased 5.4% to 6,571 units, and Mazda sales increased 6.8% to 4,734 units.
Ford sales were up 33.1% to 8,926 units, and FCA Mexico sales were up 2.4% to 8,581 units.
Kia sales were up 245.0% to 5,903 units, while Hyundai sales rose 31.2% to 3,304 units.

Mexican sales up 19.6% in August
On September 7, the Mexican automotive association AMIA reported that the 134,043 units sold in August represented a 19.6% increase over the same month last year.
Year-to-date sales of 987,663 vehicles represent an 18.5% increase from the same eight-month period in 2015.
The market leaders all benefitted in August, as Nissan sales were up 13.8% to 33,192 units, General Motors sales were up 22.3% to 24,571 units, and Volkswagen Group sales were up 13.6% to 21,313 units.
Among the other Japanese companies, Toyota sales increased 19.6% to 8,525 units and Honda sales increased 36.5% to 7,567 units, although Mazda sales decreased 1.3% to 4,511 units.
Ford sales were up 26.9% to 8,817 units, but FCA Mexico sales were down 6.8% to 7,812 units.
Hyundai sales were up 27.4% to 3,253 units, while Kia sales rose 252.0% to 5,702 units.

Mexican sales up 17.9% in July
On August 2, the Mexican automotive association AMIA reported that the 131,764 units sold in July represented a 17.9% increase over the same month last year.
Year-to-date sales of 853,620 vehicles represent an 18.3% increase from the same seven-month period in 2015.
The market leaders all benefitted in July, as Nissan sales were up 16.3% to 33,201 units, General Motors sales were up 18.3% to 25,163 units, and Volkswagen Group sales were up 16.9% to 21,130 units.
Among the other Japanese companies, Toyota sales increased 38.8% to 8,287 units and Honda sales increased 15.8% to 6,945 units, although Mazda sales decreased 8.2% to 4,114 units.
Ford sales were up 15.2% in July to 8,352 units, but FCA Mexico sales were down 15.5% to 7,617 units.
Hyundai sales in July were up 19.9% to 3,054 units, while Kia sales rose 267.6% to 5,510 units. Kia’s Pesqueria assembly plant near Monterrey, Mexico began production of the Forte model earlier this year.

Mexican sales up 25.9% in June, up 18.4% in first half
On July 7, the Mexican automotive association AMIA reported that the 134,536 units sold in June represented a 25.9% increase from the same month the previous year.
Sales of 721,856 vehicles in the first half of 2016 represent an 18.4% increase from the same six-month period in 2015.
Of first half vehicle sales in the Mexican market, 44% were domestically produced and 56% were imported.
The Mexican sales of light vehicles reached historical levels, for June and for the first half of 2016.
Sales by manufacturer in June were as follows: Nissan sold 33,484 units up 18.6% year-over-year. GM sales increased 35.4% to 29,153 units. VW Group sold 20,651 units, up 21.4%. FCA sales were down 0.3% to 8,279 units and Toyota increased its sales by 34.3% to 7,824 units.

Mexican vehicle sales up 19.2% in May

The Asociacion Mexicana de la Industria Automotriz (AMIA) released May 2016 figures on June 6. Mexican May sales of 121,587 light vehicles were 19.2% more than in May 2015.
January - May sales of 587,320 cars and light trucks represent an increase of 16.8% over the same five-month period last year.
The Mexican sales of light vehicles reached historical levels, for May and for the first five months of 2016.
During the first five months, 44% of sales were domestically produced vehicles and 56% were imported vehicles.
Sales by manufacturer in May were as follows: Nissan sold 28,644 units up 7.9% year-over-year. GM sales increased 23.8% to 24,238 units. VW Group sold 20,295 units, up 15.0%. Toyota sales were up 31.6% to 7,927 units and Ford increased its sales by 7.8% to 7,671 units.

Mexican vehicle sales up 24.9% in April
The Asociacion Mexicana de la Industria Automotriz (AMIA) released April 2016 figures on May 9. Mexican April sales of 118,407 light vehicles were 24.9% more than in April 2015.
Jannuary - April sales of 465,733 cars and light trucks represent an increase of 16.2% over the same four-month period last year.
The Mexican sales of light vehicles reached historical levels, for April and for the first four months of 2016.
During the first four months, 44% of sales were domestically produced vehicles and 56% were imported vehicles.
Sales by manufacturer in April were as follows: Nissan sold 28,750 units up 17.0% year-over-year, GM sales increased 23.2% to 22,930 units, VW Group sold 19,593 units, up 34.3%, Toyota sales were up 41.9% to 7,729 units, and Ford increased its sales by 8.8% to 7,524 units.

Mexican vehicle sales up 11.4% in March
The Asociacion Mexicana de la Industria Automotriz (AMIA) released March 2016 figures on April 6. Mexican March sales of 116,863 light vehicles were 11.4% more than in March 2015.
First quarter sales of 347,326 cars and light trucks represent an increase of 13.4% over the same three-month period last year.
The Mexican sales of light vehicles reached historical levels, for March and for the first three months of 2016.
During the first three months, 44% of sales were domestically produced vehicles and 56% were imported vehicles.
Sales by manufacturer in March were as follows: Nissan sold 30,961 units up 8.3% year-over-year, GM sales increased 4.9% to 21,180 units, VW Group sold 19,340 units, up 11.9%, FCA sales were up 3.3% to 7,940 units, and Toyota increased its sales by 21.6% to 7,756 units.

Mexican vehicle sales up 13.5% in February
The Asociacion Mexicana de la Industria Automotriz (AMIA) released February 2016 figures on March 8. Mexican February sales of 110,770 light vehicles were 13.5% more than in February 2015.
The first two month sales were 230,463 vehicles sold, 14.5% higher than the units sold in the same period last year. The Mexican sales of light vehicles recorded the best historical levels, for February and for the first two month sales.
Sales in the Mexican market during the first two months, 44% of sales were domestically produced vehicles and 56% were imported vehicles.
By manufacturer sales in February, Nissan sold 28,530 units up 12.8% year over year. VW Group sold 19,166 units up 13.6%. GM sales increased 2.1% to 18,106 units. FCA sales were down 5.8% to 7,422 units. Ford increased its sales by 10.5% to 7,209 units.
