Already surpassing 2020 sales renewed hope that recovery is underway as restrictions have started easing and economic activities have resumed at improved levels, said CAMPI president, adding that the auto industry, however, remains cautious and on guard given the uncertainties brought by mutations of the coronavirus, which, hopefully, would not weaken recovery. The changes seen in the auto industry due to the pandemic in terms of online sales and marketing activities are expected to continue, as such have become a viable strategy to cater to the needs of customers.

Reported on August 19, 2021, a joint report of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) showed combined sales of 21,498 vehicles recorded in the month of July 2021, rose 4.7% YoY. CAMPI and TMA records 1.4% vehicle sales drop in Philippines in January 2021
Reported on February 12, 2021, sales of car and truck manufacturers in Philippines reached 23,380 units in January 2021 or slight decline of 1.4% from 23,723 units recorded in January 2020, according to a joint report by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association Inc. (TMA) released on February 11.
Sales of the commercial vehicle (CV) segment, which accounted for bulk or 68.8% of the market, dipped 6.4% YoY to 16,085 units in January 2021. CAMPI said the CV sales performance reflects the continuous trend of the shift in consumer preference to larger vehicles.
Meanwhile, passenger car (PC) sales rose 11.5% YoY to 7,295 units in January 2021.
Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. remained the market leader with a 46.28% share in total sales. Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. came in second with a 15.05% share, while Nissan Philippines Inc. was third with a 9.93% share.
CAMPI said the slight YoY decrease in total vehicle sales in January is seen as a positive sign that the automotive industry is slowly recovering. Despite the good start seen in January, CAMPI president said the group remains cautiously optimistic in the coming months given the pandemic and provisional safeguard measures on imported vehicles.
While some CAMPI members have local assembly operations, they also sell imported vehicles.
