Reported on September 18, 2024, the latest data from Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. In August, sales of commercial vehicles jumped 11.3% YoY to 29,626 units, while sales of passenger vehicles dropped 5.6% YoY to 9,529 units.
In the first 8 months of 2024, CAMPI-TMA sales reached 304,765 units, up 10.3% YoY. The announced January-August 2024 (YTD) sales figure for commercial vehicles was 224,438 units (up 9.1% YoY). Meanwhile, sales of passenger vehicles reached 80,327 units (up 14.0%).
The top 3 brands in the market were Toyota (46.15% share), Mitsubishi Motors (19.2% share), and Ford (6.22% share).
According to Rizal Commercial Banking Corp.’s chief economist, local sales/demand are mainly driven by newer models, more brands, more EV and HEV sales, favorable demographics, and improving employment data in recent months.
Moreover, the sales performance was pushed by the double-digit growth in consumer loans, particularly auto loans, despite relatively higher interest rates that increased borrowing/financing costs since 2022. Lower Fed (US Federal Reserve) and local policy rates are expected to help increase demand for auto loans and vehicle purchases.

Moreover, the 9th Philippine International Motor Show, which will be held in H2/2024, is expected to help boost sales to even exceed CAMPI’s initial forecast and reach 500,000 units.
