Summary
The two-wheeler is one of the most popular ways of transport in India. It contributes to over 70% of total vehicle sales in India. That’s why, India is the largest producer of two-wheelers in the world. The market is dominated by ICE two-wheeler manufacturers.
But in recent years, environmental concerns and dependence on imported crude oil to meet domestic demand have prompted the government to promote alternative means in the transport sector. Electric two-wheeler sales are continuously increasing in India and last financial year, it crossed the one million mark first time.
Rapid urbanization, increasing fuel prices, favorable government policies, subsidies, and sustainability concerns are a few factors that are increasing the adoption of electric two-wheelers in India. However, it was also impacted by safety concerns like battery fires, irregularities by OEMs in subsidiaries, and poor charging infrastructure, which are a few reasons that still raise concern in consumer minds.
The report is the first part of the electric two-wheel market coverage of India. It covers the current market scenario of high-speed two-wheelers, the review of government policies, and the performance and business plan for e-mobility of ICE two-wheelers OEMS.
