Kia, Hyundai concepts show alternative use cases; technologies enhance in-vehicle entertainment

  CES 2024 took place from January 9 through January 12, 2024, in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S. Described as one of the largest and fastest growing automotive and transportation shows, CES 2024 featured more than 600 mobility exhibitors spanning over 500,000 square feet of exhibition space. CES 2024 attendance increased by 17% over the previous year to 135,000 visitors, with more than 40% of attendees coming from outside the U.S.

  Outside of traditional production models and concepts, companies displayed vehicles expanding mobility and transportation use cases. Kia debuted its Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) series, showcasing five concepts suited for varied applications. Kia also highlighted vehicle-to-home (V2H) and vehicle-to-load (V2L) use cases for its electric vehicles. Hyundai showed multiple mobility concepts, including the digital curated experience (DICE) concept, spatial curated experience (SPACE) concept, and CITY POD logistics system.

  Other exhibits showcased advanced user experience and interface technologies. Mercedes-Benz revealed its updated MB.OS system and showcased the Sound Drive audio experience system. BMW displayed new entertainment options and a teleoperation demonstration system developed with Valeo. Marelli and Valeo featured interior displays and experiences for passenger entertainment, while Panasonic highlighted premium audio systems in current and future vehicles.

  Finally, several companies showcased vehicles providing alternative mobility modes. Honda displayed its Motocompacto scooter, while Bosch, Valeo, and VinFast showed eBikes and their systems. Schaeffler presented an autonomous shuttle developed with VDL and Mobileye. Air mobility vehicles also attracted interest at CES 2024, with Hyundai's subsidiary Supernal showcasing an eVTOL concept, and Xpeng AeroHT premiering its flying car in North America.

  This report is the second in a series of reports highlighting automotive and mobility content at CES 2024. This report focuses on alternative vehicles with non-traditional use cases, including models shown by Hyundai, Kia, Honda. The report also covers user experience technologies from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Valeo, Marelli, and Panasonic.
