Summary
The 15th Automotive World was held at the Tokyo Big Sight convention and exhibition center as an advanced technology exhibition that heralds the start of the year 2023. The large turnout gave the impression that the event had regained some of the liveliness it had before the COVID-19 crisis.
In the area of AD (Autonomous Driving) and ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems), a wide range of new technologies were introduced, including sensors and other component hardware and software, as well as new HMI (Human-Machine Interface)-related technologies and test support technologies for adaptive development. It appears that Tier N and specialized companies with unique technologies have entered the system development and ADAS function development markets, which have traditionally been handled by automakers and leading Tier 1 suppliers. The composition of the knowledge that embodies the vehicle system, which is gathered by vehicle architecture development support engineering firms, was also impressive. Unlike Tier 1 suppliers, which sell their own parts to remain financially viable, these unique Tier N integrator's software is a deliverable, and the know-how accumulated through collaboration with many automakers has the potential to give it a competitive advantage with a wealth of information over individual automakers, which can only think within the scope of their own products. The trend toward software-driven development was felt in the hardware manufacturing sector of the automotive industry. It was an exhibition that gave a strong sense of the SDV (Software Defined Vehicle) trend.
