CES 2022 was held as an in-person event from January 5 through January 7, 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S. and as a virtual event through January. Compared to the previous iteration held in-person in 2020, attendance for CES 2022 decreased by approximately 74% from 170,000 to 40,000 attendees because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, a number of exhibitors cancelled in-person attendance immediately prior to the event due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant in December.

A number of companies, from both automotive and generalized focuses, showcased new mobility options and vehicles. Both the Hyundai vehicle brand and Hyundai Mobis subsidiary displayed autonomous robots and mobility units. Bosch, Panasonic and Valeo all included eBikes as part of their exhibits, demonstrating the growth of electrification in mobility solutions beyond personal cars. In an outdoor plaza, Perrone Robotics showcased its AV Star autonomous electric shuttle, highlighting its capabilities at an outdoor track.

With the advancement of autonomous systems and technologies, companies also displayed technologies and vehicle concepts that enhance the user experience within the vehicle. Asahi Kasei showcased their AKXY Pod concept, which highlights a variety of technologies to keep passengers comfortable, safe and clean. Samsung featured two demonstration units, one featuring in-vehicle monitoring to accommodate passengers, while another showed how augmented reality could reduce the need for instrument displays or clusters. Toyota Boshoku highlighted various interior concept spaces designed to engage and accommodate passengers as they travel in future autonomous vehicles.

This is the third report in a series presenting the automotive content at CES 2022. This report will focus on the technologies emphasizing new mobility options and user experiences, specifically from Hyundai, Hyundai Mobis, Samsung, Asahi Kasei, LG, Toyota Boshoku, and Perrone Robotics. Previous reports focused on electric vehicles shown by emerging OEMs and established OEMs.
