The 10th Car HMI Europe conference was held as a hybrid event from June 27 until 29, 2021 in Berlin. Around 150 HMI experts from all over the automotive industry participated, about half of them on-site and the rest remotely. Most of the presentations were given at the venue, just a few presenters dialled in remotely mostly due to travel restrictions.
It was one of the first live conferences, after a long period of purely digital events due to the COVID 19 pandemic. All on-site participants expressed their gratitude for being able to exchange thoughts face-to-face again.
The event started with a so called Ice Breaker Session on Sunday evening, offering the participants an informal networking opportunity while enjoying a drink and snack.
At the main event participants could attend presentations, exchange opinions during workshops and take a look at some booths in the exhibition area.

Directly after registering, a polaroid photo of each participant was taken and put on the "Car HMI Europe Community Wall". A business card was attached to each picture, facilitating the getting to know each other.
The first day was moderated by Dr. Peter Rößger, the founder and owner of beyond HMI/////, which is a consultancy company in human machine interaction (HMI) design, usability, and user experience with a strong focus on the automotive industry.
Mr. Armin Kölker, Sales Director EMEA at Altia inc., guided the audience through the second day. Altia is a US software company providing GUI (Graphical User Interface) development tools.
Next year's event is planned to take place in Berlin again from June 19th - 21st , 2022.
The total event report is divided into three parts.
The first part introduces the companies and their products, which were on display at the exhibition.
The other two parts look at some selected presentations.
This is the second part, which covers latest user interface technologies.
The third part will highlight current holistic HMI concept approaches and give an outlook on user experience enhanced design for future autonomous driving.
