2022 vehicle sales in Thailand up 11.9%, production up 11.7% (detailed report)
According to the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), December vehicle sales in Thailand decreased 9.0% year over year to 82,799 units. FTI attributed the decline to flooding in several provinces of Thailand as well as the chip shortage issue (in some car models). 2022 full year vehicle sales in Thailand increased 11.9% year over year to 849,388 units in accordance with the recovery of local economy thanks to the reopening of the country to more international tourism and creating new job opportunities locally. Other positive factors include the support measures from the government to stir up economic activities and boost consumer spending, such as the crop insurance scheme, 50:50 co-payment scheme, We Travel Together program, etc., as well as the launch of new car models.
According to data compiled by Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT), by maker sales in 2022, Toyota was up 20.5% to 288,809 units. Isuzu was up 15.4% to 212,491 units and Honda was down 6.6% to 82,842 units. Mitsubishi sales were up 6.8% to 50,385 units, and Ford sales were up 34.7% to 43,628 units.
By body type sales in 2022, passenger cars were up 5.3% year over year to 265,069 units, while commercial vehicles were up 15.2% to 584,319 units. Pickup sales included in the commercial vehicle sales were up 15.6% to 454,875 units.
The Isuzu D-Max was the best-selling model in 2022 with 181,384 units, followed by Toyota Hilux with 145,435 units, Honda City with 46,222 units, Ford Ranger with 29,310 units and Toyota Yaris with 28,522 units.
New vehicle production in December increased 2.7% to 158,606 units thanks to the availability of more auto parts, especially semiconductors. The 2022 new vehicle production increased 11.7% to 1,883,515 units.
Vehicle exports in December rose 10.2% to 111,605 units, the best in 45 months. The 2022 vehicle export increased 4.3% to 1,000,256 units valued at THB 619 billion, up 10.4%.
FTI anticipates growth of 3.5% in local car production in 2023 with 1.95 million units (1.05 million units for exports and 900,000 units to be sold locally, an increase of 1.2% and 6.4% from 2022, respectively).

November vehicle sales in Thailand down 4.8%, production up 15.0% (detailed report)
According to the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), November vehicle sales in Thailand decreased 4.8% year over year (YoY) to 68,284 units from the same period in 2021, due to flooding in several provinces of Thailand. According to FTI, the YoY sales decline occurred despite the recovery of local economy following the reopening of the country to more international tourism, which also allows more investors from overseas countries to enter Thailand, and hence creating new job opportunities locally. Vehicle sales in the first 11 months of 2022 reached 766,589 units, up 14.7% YoY.
According to data compiled by Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT), by maker sales in November, Toyota was up 6.0% to 24,554 units. Isuzu was down 10.1% to 16,561 units and Honda was down 15.0% to 7,328 units. Ford sales were up 67.7% to 4,807 units and Mitsubishi sales were down 21.2% to 3,469 units.
By body type, passenger cars were down 14.8% year over year to 20,263 units. Commercial vehicle sales were up 0.2% to 48,021 units. Pickup truck (including PPV) sales included in the commercial vehicle sales were down 5.9% to 36,286 units.
The Isuzu D-Max was the best-selling model (registration base) in November with 13,378 units, followed by Toyota Hilux with 10,227 units, Honda City with 3,472 units, Toyota Yaris ATIV with 3,097 units and Ford Ranger with 2,676 units.
The FTI announced that new vehicle production in November reached 190,155 units, up 15.0% YoY. In the month of November alone, car production for domestic sales contributed 44%, while production for exports contributed 56%. In January-November 2022, vehicle production increased 12.6% to 1,724,909 units.
Vehicle exports in the month of November decreased 11.0% YoY to 87,979 units. FTI blamed a shortage of space on a RoRo (roll-on/roll-off) ship. The vehicle export value in November was THB 56.1 billion, down 2.9% year over year. In the first 11 months of 2022, vehicle exports from Thailand increased 3.6% YoY to 888,651 units.

October vehicle sales in Thailand up 0.2%, production up 10.8% (detailed report)
According to the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), October vehicle sales in Thailand increased 0.2% year over year (YoY) to 64,618 units from the same period in 2021, in accordance with the recovery of local economy thanks to the reopening of the country to more international tourism, which also allows more investors from overseas countries to enter Thailand, and hence creating new job opportunities locally. Other positive factors include the support measures from the government to stir up economic activities and boost consumer spending, such as the crop insurance scheme, 50:50 co-payment scheme, We Travel Together program, etc., as well as the launch of new car models. Vehicle sales in the first 10 months of 2022 reached 698,305 units, up 17.1% YoY.
According to data compiled by Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT), by maker sales in October, Toyota was up 11.4% to 25,439 units. Isuzu was down 8.6% to 14,087 units and Honda was down 17.7 to 5,909 units. Ford sales were up 78.7% to 5,046 units and Mitsubishi sales were down 17.0% to 3,402 units.
By body type, passenger cars were down 2.4% year over year to 19,468 units. Commercial vehicle sales were up 1.4% to 45,150 units. Pickup truck (including PPV) sales included in the commercial vehicle sales were up 0.3% to 35,447 units.
The Isuzu D-Max was the best-selling model (registration base) in October with 12,313 units, followed by Toyota Hilux with 9,565 units, Honda City with 3,526 units, Toyota Yaris ATIV with 2,602 units and Ford Ranger with 2,197 units.
The FTI announced that new vehicle production in October reached 170,717 units, up 10.8% YoY. In the month of October alone, car production for domestic sales contributed 43%, while production for exports contributed 57%. In January-October 2022, vehicle production increased 12.4% to 1,534,754 units.
Vehicle exports in the month of October increased 15.5% YoY to 94,228 units. FTI pointed that more auto parts, especially semiconductors, have become available (in some passenger car and PPV car models). Car exports to Australian, Middle Eastern, and African markets also improved. The vehicle export value in October was THB 61.8 billion, up 29.3% year over year. In the first 10 months of 2022, vehicle exports from Thailand increased 5.5% YoY to 800,672 units.
FTI estimated that its 2022 car production target of 1.75 million units will be achieved.

September vehicle sales in Thailand up 15.6%, production up 28.0% (detailed report)
According to the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), September vehicle sales in Thailand increased 15.6% year over year (YoY) to 74,150 units from the same period in 2021, thanks to the new car models introduced locally, further lockdown easements were announced, the reopening of the country to more international tourism and more investors from overseas countries, as well as other support measures from the government to encourage more economic activities and consumer spending. Vehicle sales in the first 9 months of 2022 reached 633,687 units, up 19.1% YoY.
According to data compiled by Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT), by maker sales in September, Toyota was up 14.9% to 22,954 units. Isuzu was up 58.2% to 21,598 units and Honda was up 7.6% to 6,793 units. Ford sales were up 137.8% to 5,010 units and Mitsubishi sales were up 10.5% to 3,872 units.
By body type, passenger cars were down 8.6% year over year to 23,074 units. Commercial vehicle sales were up 31.4% to 51,076 units. Pickup truck (including PPV) sales included in the commercial vehicle sales were up 37.2% to 41,396 units.
The Isuzu D-Max was the best-selling model (registration base) in September with 19,077 units, followed by Toyota Hilux with 14,528 units, Honda City with 3,767 units, Toyota Yaris ATIV with 2,725 units and Ford Ranger with 2,413 units.
The FTI announced that new vehicle production in September reached 179,237 units, the highest production figure in 9 months, jumped 28.0% YoY. In the month of September alone, car production for domestic sales contributed 41%, while production for exports contributed 59%. In January-September 2022, vehicle production up 12.5% to 1,364,037 units.
Vehicle exports in the month of September increased 36.0% YoY to 100,389 units as more auto parts of some car models became available. Car exports to most markets increased, except for European market. The vehicle export value in September was THB 67.5 billion, up 50.8% year over year. In the first 9 months of 2022, vehicle exports from Thailand increased 4.3% YoY to 706,444 units.

August vehicle sales in Thailand up 61.7%, production up 64.9% (detailed report)
According to the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), August vehicle sales in Thailand increased 61.7% year over year (YoY) to 68,208 units from the low base level in the same period in 2021 when the country went under the COVID-19 lockdowns until the end of August. Sales in August 2022 increased due to further lockdown easements were announced and thanks to the reopening of the country to more international tourism and more investors from overseas countries, as well as other support measures from the government to encourage more economic activities and consumer spending. Vehicle sales in the first 8 months of 2022 reached 559,537 units, an increase of 19.6% YoY.
According to data compiled by Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT), by maker sales in August, Toyota was up 88.9% to 23,356 units. Isuzu was up 43.7% to 15,858 units and Honda was up 32.3% to 7,071 units. Ford sales were up 132.3% to 4,676 units and Mitsubishi sales were up 49.5% to 4,013 units.
By body type, passenger cars were up 62.7% year over year to 22,530 units. Commercial vehicle sales were up 61.2% to 45,678 units. Pickup truck (including PPV) sales included in the commercial vehicle sales were up 67.0% to 36,528 units.
The Isuzu D-Max was the best-selling model (registration base) in August with 17,001 units, followed by Toyota Hilux with 13,182 units, Honda City with 2,761 units, Toyota Yaris with 2,538 units and Ford Ranger with 2,465 units.
The FTI announced that new vehicle production in August reached 171,731 units, up 64.9% from August 2021. In the month of August alone, car production of domestic sales contributed 51.4%, while production for exports contributed 48.6%. Vehicle production in the first 8 months of 2022 increased 10.5% YoY to 1,184,800 units.
Vehicle exports in the month of August increased 23.1% YoY to 73,325 units. Car exports to most markets increased except for European and North American markets. The vehicle export value in August was THB 49.4 billion, up 38.1% year over year. In the first 8 months of 2022, vehicle exports from Thailand increased 0.4% YoY to 606,055 units.

According to the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), July vehicle sales in Thailand increased 22.1% year over year (YoY) to 64,033 units as further lockdown easements were announced and thanks to the reopening of the country to more international tourism and more investors from overseas countries, as well as other support measures from the government to encourage more economic activities and consumer spending. According to the FTI, the sales figures in June and January-June 2022 have been edited to 67,945 units and 427,296 units, respectively. Therefore, vehicle sales in the first 7 months of 2022 reached 491,329 units, an increase of 15.4% YoY.
According to data compiled by Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT), by maker sales in July, Toyota was up 19.0% to 20,277 units. Isuzu was up 19.0% to 16,282 units and Honda was up 4.3% to 7,256 units. Mitsubishi sales were up 23.3% to 3,951 units and Ford sales were up 70.0% to 3,611 units.
By body type, passenger cars were up 15.0% year over year to 19,194 units. Commercial vehicle sales were up 25.4% to 44,839 units. Pickup truck (including PPV) sales included in the commercial vehicle sales were up 22.4% to 34,054 units.
The Isuzu D-Max was the best-selling model in July with 14,036 units, followed by Toyota Hilux with 10,352 units, Honda City with 2,330 units, Toyota Yaris with 2,187 units and Ford Ranger with 1,844 units.
The FTI announced that new vehicle production in July reached 142,958 units, up 16.1% from July 2021. In the month of July alone, car production of domestic sales contributed 50.06%, while production for exports contributed 49.94%. Vehicle production in the first 7 months of 2022 increased 4.7% YoY to 1,013,069 units.
Vehicle exports in the month of July increased 17.7% YoY to 83,086 units. Car exports to most markets increased, except for Asia which witnessed YoY decline. The vehicle export value in July was THB 52.0 billion, up 19.7% year over year. In the first 7 months of 2022, vehicle exports from Thailand declined 2.1% YoY to 532,730 units.

According to data compiled by Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT), by maker sales in June, Toyota was down 5.9% to 21,026 units. Isuzu was up 42.9% to 20,146 units and Mitsubishi was up 22.1% to 4,815 units. Honda sales were down 40.1% to 4,395 units and Mazda sales were up 6.5% to 3,199 units. By body type, passenger cars were down 13.0% year over year to 19,598 units. Commercial vehicle sales were up 13.9% to 48,354 units. Pickup truck (including PPV) sales included in the commercial vehicle sales were up 13.4% to 37,619 units.
The Isuzu D-Max was the best-selling model in June with 16,481 units, followed by Toyota Hilux with 12,757 units, Honda City with 3,697 units, Toyota Yaris with 2,715 units and Toyota Fortuner with 2,458 units.

According to the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), May vehicle sales in Thailand increased 15.7% year over year (YoY) to 64,735 units as further lockdown easements were announced and thanks to the reopening of the country to international tourism. However, FTI expressed concern over the rising oil prices, Thai baht depreciation, as well as the rising household debt, which could reduce purchasing power of the customers. Vehicle sales in January-May 2022 up 16.6% to 359,351 units.
According to data compiled by Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT), by maker sales in May, Toyota was up 12.2% to 22,181 units. Isuzu was up 5.8% to 15,728 units and Honda was up 0.7% to 5,035 units. Mitsubishi sales were up 39.0% to 4,714 units and Mazda sales were up 7.1% to 3,005 units. By body type, passenger cars were up 29.0% year over year to 20,084 units. Commercial vehicle sales were up 10.6% to 44,651 units. Pickup truck (including PPV) sales included in the commercial vehicle sales were up 6.4% to 33,822 units.

According to the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), April vehicle sales in Thailand increased 9.1% year over year (YoY) to 63,427 units as further lockdown easements were announced, more vehicles reserved at the Bangkok International Motor Show (ended on April 3) have been delivered, and thanks to the reopening of the country to international tourism. Vehicle sales in January-April 2022 up 16.8% to 294,616 units.
According to data compiled by Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT), by maker sales in April, Toyota was up 13.2% to 21,681 units. Isuzu was up 11.0% to 16,595 units and Honda was down 5.8% to 5,107 units. Mitsubishi sales were down 5.8% to 3,870 units and Mazda sales were down 24.7% to 2,753 units. By body type, passenger cars were up 20.6% year over year to 20,492 units. Commercial vehicle sales were up 4.4% to 42,935 units. Pickup truck (including PPV) sales included in the commercial vehicle sales were up 3.1% to 33,629 units.
The Isuzu D-Max was the best-selling model in April with 15,050 units, followed by Toyota Hilux with 11,181 units, Honda City with 4,124 units, Toyota Yaris with 2,485 units and Ford Ranger with 2,275 units.
The FTI announced that new vehicle production in April reached 117,786 units, up 12.9% from April 2021. In the month of April alone, car production of domestic sales grew 32.3% YoY, while production for exports went 1.7% down YoY as the effects of chips/other auto parts shortage in some car models continued. Vehicle production in the first 4 months of 2022 up 4.9% YoY to 597,864 units.
Vehicle exports in the month of April recorded YoY growth for the first time in 2022 with 55,696 units, rose 5.3% YoY. Amid the growing demand for pickup trucks, exports to Asia, the Middle East, North America, Central America, and South America also escalated YoY. The vehicle export value in April was THB 33.5 billion, up 11.3% year over year. In the first 4 months of 2022, vehicle exports from Thailand declined 3.9% YoY to 298,820 units.

March vehicle sales in Thailand up 9.1%, production up 6.2% (detailed report)
According to the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), March vehicle sales in Thailand increased 9.1% year over year (YoY) to 87,245 units thanks to the reopening of the country to international tourism, support measures from the government to encourage more economic activities and consumer spending. The Bangkok International Motor Show which recorded sales of over 33,000 cars and motorcycles also helped driving sales in March and April. January - March sales were up 19.1% to 231,189 units.
According to data compiled by Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT), by maker sales in March, Toyota was up 34.7% to 29,997 units. Isuzu was up 24.4% to 21,801 units and Honda was down 2.8% to 10,009 units. Mitsubishi sales were down 9.5% to 4,637 units and Mazda sales were down 1.1% to 4,594 units. By body type, passenger cars were down 1.4% year over year to 29,771 units. Commercial vehicle sales were up 15.4% to 57,474 units. Pickup truck (including PPV) sales included in the commercial vehicle sales were up 21.7% to 46,363 units.
The Isuzu D-Max was the best-selling model in March with 18,259 units, followed by Toyota Hilux with 15,407 units, Honda City with 5,636 units, Toyota Yaris with 3,273 units and Toyota Fortuner with 3,151 units.
The FTI announced that new vehicle production in March reached 172,671 units, up 6.2% from March 2021, supported by production of domestic sales which increased 32.2% YoY, mainly to serve demand from the Bangkok International Motor Show and during the public holidays in April. However, production for exports declined 11.4% in March as production of passenger cars continued to be impacted by shortage of chips and other auto parts in some car models. January - March production was up 3.1% to 480,078 units.
Vehicle exports in March were at 93,840 units, decreased 10.2% YoY. Due to the suspension of some passenger car models’ production following semiconductor and other parts shortages, exports to Asia, Australia, and Europe witnessed decline. The vehicle export value in March was THB 55.9 billion, down 4.4% year over year. Vehicle exports from January to March were down 5.8% to 243,124 units.

February vehicle sales in Thailand up 26.3%, production up 0.3% (detailed report)
According to the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), February vehicle sales in Thailand increased 26.3% year over year (YoY) to 74,489 units thanks to the reopening of the country to international tourism, support measures from the government to encourage more economic activities and consumer spending, including the 50-50 copayment scheme and crop insurance scheme, etc. January - February sales were up 26.1% to 143,944 units.
According to data compiled by Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT), by maker sales in February, Toyota was up 57.2% to 24,998 units. Isuzu was up 22.6% to 20,193 units and Honda was down 21.3% to 7,090 units. Mitsubishi sales were up 26.4% to 4,604 units and Mazda sales were up 8.5% to 3,336 units. By body type, passenger cars were up 19.1% year over year to 22,590 units. Commercial vehicle sales were up 29.8% to 51,899 units. Pickup truck (including PPV) sales included in the commercial vehicle sales were up 33.0% to 41,447 units.
The Isuzu D-Max was the best-selling model in February with 13,412 units, followed by Toyota Hilux with 12,689 units, Honda City with 4,897 units, Toyota Fortuner with 2,944 units and Toyota Yaris with 2,886 units.
The FTI announced that new vehicle production in February reached 155,660 units, up 0.3% from February 2021, supported by production of pickups for both domestic sales and exports which increased 27.8% and 11.0% YoY, respectively. January - February production was up 1.3% to 307,407 units.
Vehicle exports in February were at 79,451 units, decreased 0.02% YoY. Due to the suspension of some passenger car models’ production following semiconductor and other parts shortages, exports to Asia, Australia, Central America, and South America witnessed decline. The vehicle export value in February was THB 45.5 billion, up 5.7% year over year. Export value of Thailand-made engine and other auto parts in February 2022 still saw YoY growth as more overseas car factories have been reopened. Vehicle exports from January to February were down 2.8% to 149,284 units.
The Bangkok International Motor Show exhibition running from March 23 to April 3 with many promotional campaigns is expected to spur vehicle sales in March and April, especially the electrified vehicles.

January vehicle sales in Thailand up 25.8%, production up 2.5% (detailed report)
According to the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), January vehicle sales in Thailand increased 25.8% year over year (YoY) to 69,455 units. The FTI attributed this YoY growth to the country’s reopening and COVID-19 lockdown easing from 2021, the support measures from the government to encourage consumer spending, including the 50-50 copayment scheme and crop insurance scheme, etc. The upcoming Bangkok International Motor Show exhibition in March – April is expected to help driving sales growth during the first quarter of 2022.
According to data compiled by Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT), by maker sales in January, Toyota was up 24.7% to 22,149 units. Isuzu was up 1.2% to 15,426 units and Honda was up 50.7% to 8,525 units. Mitsubishi sales were up 45.6% to 4,834 units and Mazda sales were up 1.9% to 3,230 units. By body type, passenger cars were up 45.1% year over year to 23,365 units. Commercial vehicle sales were up 17.9% to 46,090 units. Pickup truck (including PPV) sales included in the commercial vehicle sales were up 16.1% to 34,962 units.
The Isuzu D-Max was the best-selling model in January with 15,549 units, followed by Toyota Hilux with 14,426 units, Honda City with 5,141 units, Toyota Yaris with 3,077 units and Ford Ranger with 2,656 units.
The FTI announced that new vehicle production in January reached 151,747 units, supported by vehicle production for domestic sales which climbed over 19% YoY and contributed 49.2% of total production volume.
Vehicle exports in January were at 69,833 units, decreased 5.8% YoY. Exports decreased in almost all trading countries due to the semiconductor shortage issue, except for Australia, Central, and South American markets. The vehicle export value in January was THB 42.8 billion, up 3.2% year over year. Export value of Thailand-made engine and other auto parts in January 2022 saw YoY growth.
The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) forecasts that 2022 vehicle production in Thailand is expected to increase 6.8% to 1.8 million units, of which 1 million units will be production for exports (up 4.5%), while 800,000 vehicles will be produced for domestic sales (up 9.7%).
