  The Hannover Messe is one of the world-largest industrial trade fairs. Several exhibitions are held simultaneously, showcasing a wide range of industrial technologies from industrial machinery, software, robotics to automation.

  After last year's Hannover Messe had been completely cancelled, this year's Messe (74th edition; date: April 12 ~ 16, 2021) was held pure digitally due to the Corona Pandemic.
  Over 1,800 exhibitors presented their ideas for factories, energy systems and supply chains of the future to 90,000 participants, who generated more than 650,000 searches in the exhibitor and product search. Among them were around 600 exhibitors from Germany and almost 500 new exhibitors.
  In Live- and video streams around 10,500 products and nearly 400 research- and development projects were presented. Personal exchange was enabled by means of chats and video-conferences.

  AI and machine learning, robotics, Industry 4.0 and CO2 neutral production belonged to the main themes, which were presented under the motto of "Industrial Transformation".
  The automotive sector was mainly represented by major OEMs and Tier 1 Suppliers covering areas, such as manufacturing, electrification, hydrogen technology, mobility, lightweight engineering and connectivity solutions.
  This year Indonesia has been featured as the show's official partner country. The resource-rich country belongs to ASEAN and has the biggest economy within the group. With the introduction of Industry 4.0 concepts, Indonesia launched the initiative "Making Indonesia 4.0" to revitalize manufacturing.

  The Messe was politically supported by the German Federal Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel and the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Peter Altmaier, as well as the President of the guest country Indonesia, Joko Widodo. VW-boss Herbert Diess, the new Siemens-boss Roland Busch, BDI-president Siegfried Russwurm and IT-safety expert Eugene Kaspersky attended the Messe as industry representatives.
  Overall, the digital version of the Hannover Messe was well accepted. However, according to Dr. Jochen Köckler, CEO of Deutsche Messe AG, the interpersonal aspect was clearly missing: "The positive response to the digital HANNOVER MESSE exceeded our expectations. At the same time, we saw that a digital tradeshow cannot replace the magic of a physical event."
  Therefore next Hannover Messe is planned as a hybrid event, combining the best of the digital and analogue worlds. It will take place from 25 to 29 April 2022 and next year's partner country will be Portugal.
