Evolution of navigation systems as infotainment equipment
List of Suppliers
Introduction
In the 2024 report, MarkLines presented information on the decline of the sales of navigation systems due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic (starting in China in 2019, but becoming a global pandemic in 2020), but even in 2024, sales of navigation systems alone continue to fall.
The COVID pandemic has been a major trigger, and while it is undeniable that the slump in automobile sales is also a contributing factor, it is thought that there are other factors as well.
In Japan, the national consumption tax hike introduced in April 2014 was a major turning point. Due to a drop in sales volume following the rush to buy before the tax increase, the number of units sold has fallen significantly since 2014, with mini-vehicles and compact cars being particularly affected. In addition, with the raising of the mini-vehicle tax from JPY 7,200 to JPY 10,800 per year in April 2015, sales of mini-vehicles, which account for 40% of domestic Japanese car sales, were negatively impacted. To make matters worse, the COVID-19 pandemic further depressed overall automobile sales.
Not only the slump in automobile sales, but also the semiconductor shortage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, has led to a decrease in the sales of navigation systems, as mentioned in last year's (2024) report.
Although car sales have been recovering since around 2024, sales of navigation systems alone continue to decline. One of the reasons for this is the rapid acceleration of IT adoption in automobiles. This report will analyze the future of IT and navigation systems in automobiles.
