Introduction

  Software-defined vehicles (SDVs) are getting a lot of attention in the auto industry and for good reasons. Software has become the core technology that defines the capability and functionality of all electronics systems. All this software and their platform building blocks must be architected, designed, and implemented for long-term use across multiple vehicle models and multiple generations of vehicles.

  This requires a new strategy and software architecture which is now labelled software-defined vehicle. Every auto OEM will need to develop, buy, and manage a lot of software platforms to remain leaders in this software-centric generation.

  In essence, SDV is the latest step in the evolution from mechanical, electromechanical, and electronics systems to software- centric systems.
