New Challenges for the LiDAR Market and Radar

Automotive World 2024: AD and ADAS Technologies Exhibits

2024/03/22

Summary

The 17th Automotive World - Advanced Automotive Technologies Expo held at the Tokyo Big Sight convention and exhibition center. The most prominent exhibits this year were new technologies and products in production related to LiDAR, radar, and cameras. Many OEMs have announced the adoption of LiDAR as a key component of Level 3 autonomous driving (AD) systems, which are becoming increasingly commonplace. It is interesting to see that there continues to be a shift towards higher performance and lower price. In the area of radar, where there have been fewer announcements of new technologies recently, the "Millimeter-wave for everyone" exhibit by Calterah (Calterah Semiconductor Technology Co., Ltd.; China), which has announced a series of SoCs for millimeter wave radar, drew a lot of attention. As for cameras, there were exhibits that are expected to improve ADAS functions, such as simple 3D measurement technology, compact far-infrared camera modules, and 3D recognition technology that utilizes light diffusion technology.
