US Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure (2)

Issues and charging costs

2023/12/13

Summary

The charging infrastructure in the US has evolved in a rather haphazard fashion since the early 2000s. Issues include a lack of charging stations, multiple connectors/adapters, unreliable chargers, and undesirable locations for charging stations.

Also, highly developed urban areas, with high population density and a large proportion of apartments, often lack home chargers, while rural locations often lack public chargers. This is a complex and constantly changing topic.

Streamlined charging and payment methods will help reduce range anxiety and improve EV consideration. And simply having more chargers available, regardless of connector type, will also contribute to this end. This is a complex topic with many moving parts, and new developments are occurring on an ongoing basis.
