The Aachen Colloquium, being organized by the Aachen Kolloquium Fahrzeug- und Motorentechnik GbR, was held in Aachen, Germany from October 9th to 11th, 2023.

The event brings together executives and experts from OEMs, suppliers, engineering service providers, research institutes and universities to jointly discuss future-oriented developments for sustainable mobility covering the aspects of efficiency, safety and environmental friendliness.

The lectures covered a wide range of fields, such as battery systems and thermal management, fuel cell and hydrogen technology, automated driving, vehicle dynamics, software defined vehicles, and mobility and sustainability concepts.

Prof.Dr. Rüdiger, rector of the RWTH Aachen University, welcomed the more than 1,000 on-site participants to the 32nd Aachen Colloquium.

Under the motto "Shaping a sustainable future together", he emphasized the importance of the Aachen Colloquium as an international platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience between the automotive industry and the academic community in order to be able to shape a more efficient and environmentally friendly, safe and sustainable mobile future.

Professor Dr.-Ing. Stefan Pischinger, head of the Institute of Internal Combustion Engines (VKA), and Professor Dr.-Ing. Lutz Eckstein, head of the Institute of Automotive Engineering (ika), both at RWTH Aachen University, represented the two institutes that jointly organize the event each year.

In their opening speech, they highlighted the following two ongoing projects:

  1. AUTOtech.agil, a consortium project, which aims to create an open software and electrical/electronic architecture for the future mobility system. The particular focus is on the standardization of interfaces and modularization with the aim of reusability, updatability and expandability of individual function modules.
  2. Cluster4Future Hydrogen, which pursues the vision of an international, hydrogen-based energy economy in which predominantly renewable energies are used to satisfy the energy needs of different sectors, using hydrogen-based materials for chemical energy storage and as fuel.

The two-day conference comprised a total of 100 technical lectures and four keynotes, which were held parallel in 30 sessions and five halls of the Eurogress conference center.

The full agenda of lectures can be viewed in the official program booklet.

The proceedings are filling two books and can be ordered - also for previous colloquia - through the Aachen Colloquium homepage.

During break time, participants had the opportunity to visit 43 booths at the accompanying trade exhibition, where suppliers, service and solution providers, research institutes and engineering consultancy companies showcased their latest products, technologies and concepts. For the first time a limited space at the exhibition area was reserved for start-up companies.

Next year the event will be held from October 7th to 9th, 2024. The Call-for-Papers will start on December 1st, 2023 and interested parties can submit their proposals by February 15th, 2024.
