The SAE WCX World Congress Experience 2022 exhibition was held from April 5 through April 7, 2022 as a hybrid event, with on-demand presentations and livestreams hosted online combined with in-person events at the Huntington Place exhibition hall in Detroit, Michigan, U.S. Due to COVID-19, WCX 2022 was the first WCX in-person event held since 2019. Compared to previous iterations of WCX, WCX 2022 had a smaller live presence.

The Leadership Summit discussion panels at WCX 2022 included sessions focused on the mobility trends of connectivity and autonomy. One session highlighted the challenges and opportunities from the growing prevalence of connected data. Another session discussed the development, implementation and concerns of SAE Level 2 assisted driving systems. In the exhibit hall, Hyundai showcased its Santa Cruz compact pickup. SAE hosted the Ford Maverick Vehicle Event on April 6, with the Maverick's design and engineering team representatives giving a presentation on the vehicle's development and features.

This report is the first of two reports highlighting various sessions and exhibits at WCX 2022. This report will focus on the discussion panels on the themes of data within the mobility environment and SAE Level 2 applications, as well as the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz compact pickups.
