Summary

On July 29, 2021, Renesas Electronics Corporation (Renesas) announced its financial results for the period April-June, 2021. Sales increased by 30.7% year-over-year (y/y) and net income for the period increased by 93.2% y/y; the company expects sales to increase by more than 30% y/y in the July-September period. The company, along with NXP Semiconductors N.V. (NXP) and Infineon Technologies AG (Infineon), is a leading semiconductor manufacturer in the automotive semiconductor industry, and automobiles are an important application for Renesas, accounting for about half of its sales. The extremely strong demand for semiconductors from the automotive industry is a strong tailwind for the company, but how long will this trend continue, and what is the medium- to long-term outlook? To begin with, what kind of strategies are automotive semiconductor manufacturers, including Renesas, planning to adopt in the "CASE” (Connected, Autonomous, Shared, Electrification) environment?

In this report, the trends of CASE will be analyzed from the perspective of the semiconductor industry.
