  The WCX 2019: SAE World Congress Experience was held from April 9 through April 11, 2019 in Detroit, Michigan, U.S. Roundtable discussions and presentations on each day of the exhibition focused on a different theme. Sessions held on April 9 focused on autonomous technology. Rather than focus on the technology utilized by autonomous vehicles, the discussion sessions focused on concepts including regulation, vehicle testing and validation. Several exhibitors also showcased autonomous and safety technology. Ford displayed its new Ford Escape highlighting an upgraded Ford Co-Pilot360 assistance suite while Velodyne showcased its Alpha Puck lidar. A section of the exhibition hall was reserved for in-car demonstrations of autonomous vehicles.

  This report is the first of two reports which highlights the technologies, systems and concepts presented at WCX 2019. This report will focus on content related to the themes of autonomous vehicles and safety systems. A separate report focusing on future mobility, digital and clean vehicle technologies at WCX 2019 will be released in the future.
