Summary

 Shanghai Motor Show 2011 (Auto Shanghai 2011: The 14th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition) was held in Shanghai from April 21st to 28th, 2011 (Press days: April 19th and 20th).

 The following is a summary of reports on the exhibition of 53 new models to be launched from April 2011 to 2013 by eight Chinese emerging passenger car manufacturers - Chery Automobile, BYD Auto, Brilliance Automobile, JAC (Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group), Geely (Geely Holding Group), Great Wall Motor, Zotye (Zotye Motors), and Soueast Motor (Fujian Motor Industry Group).

 Details of 16 new energy vehicles (including six PHEVs, one HEV, and nine EVs) and 37 other new production vehicles are reported.

Chery Automobile: seven new models including fully-remodeled New Eastar

New energy vehicle: one for each new PHEV and EV

Exhibit Summary
Riich G3 plug-in  The Riich G3 plug-in is a PHEV sedan (4WD, 5-seat), which is based on the Riich G3. 4605/1760/1483 with a wheelbase of 2600mm. The vehicle weight is 1590kg. It takes three to four hours to fully charge the battery. The model is planned to be launched in 2012 or later.
 The model comes with the company's own lithium-ion iron phosphate battery. The front wheel is equipped with an ISG permanent magnet synchronous motor (rated output of 11kW/max. torque 88Nm) for HEV drive mode and the rear wheel is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor (rated output 20kW/max. torque 115Nm) for EV drive mode. A 1.3L in-line 4-cylinder engine (rated output 65kW/max. torque 120Nm) is used.
Riich X1 EV  The Riich X1 EV is a compact SUV EV (5-seat, designed by Italy-based Bertone), which is developed based on the Riich X1. 3877/1826/1631 with a wheelbase of 2330mm. The vehicle weight is 1270kg. The maximum speed is 120km/h. The cruising range is up to 140km (100km in ECE mode). The electricity consumption is 15kWh/100km. It takes 30 minutes to charge the battery quickly to 80% and 6 to 8 hours to full charge it. There are plans to launch the model in 2011 or later.
 The model comes with a high-performance lithium-ion iron phosphate battery (336V/60Ah) and two permanent magnet synchronous motors (rated output 20kW/max. output 30kW, max. torque 685Nm).

Exhibit Summary
Cowin 5  Debut. The Cowin 5 is a Western-style middle-class/high-end new sedan that is independently developed. 4770/1815/1445 with a wheelbase of 2700mm. It is scheduled to be launched in 2012.
 The model comes with the company's own 1.8L ACTECO engine (rated output 97kW/max. torque 170Nm) and CVT.
New Eastar  Debut. The New Eastar is a new sedan of the Eastar, which is fully-remodeled for the first time in eight years. 4866/1840/1500 with a wheelbase of 2768mm. It is scheduled to be launched as early as in 2011 (It is also considered to be renamed as the Cowin series).
 The model comes with the company's own 2.0L DVVT ACTECO engine (rated output 102kW/max. torque 182Nm) and MT/CVT.
Chery E5  Debut. The Chery E5 is an independently-developed sedan based on the Chery A5/Cowin 3 (development code: A21FL-C). 4580/1760/1483 with a wheelbase of 2600mm. The model shares the same chassis with the Riich G3. There are plans to launch it in the second half of 2011 (selling price: more than 60,000 to 90,000 RMB).
 The model comes with the company's own 1.5L ACTECO engine (rated output 80kW/max. torque 140Nm) and MT, or a 1.8L engine (max. output 97kW/max. torque 170Nm) and the company's own CVT.
Riich G3  The Riich G3 is a sedan that is positioned between Chery A3 and Riich G5. It shares the same chassis with Chery E5. 4610/1760/1478 with a wheelbase of 2610mm. A 1.6DVVT model will be launched in August 2011. The entire series are planned to be marketed in 2011.
 The model comes with a 1.6L DVVT (rated output 93kW/max. torque 160Nm)/1.8L engine and CVT, or a 1.3L SCI engine (rated output 95kW/max. torque 182Nm) and MT.
Riich Z5  The Riich Z5 is an independently-developed entry-class sports car (2-door). 4615/1821/1394 with a wheelbase of 2700mm. It comes with a 2.0L turbo engine and a 5-speed AT. It will be launched as early as in 2011.

New energy vehicle: PHEV and EV are marketed for individual customers starting in 2011

Exhibit Summary
e6 (EV)  The e6 is scheduled to be marketed for individual customers in five cities - Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Changchun, and Hefei - starting in the second half of 2011 (It has already been marketed for taxis in Shenzhen in 2010).
F3DM Low-carbon Version (PHEV)  The F3DM Low-carbon Version is also scheduled to be marketed for individual customers in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Changchun, and Hefei city starting in 2011. On the other hand, the company will launch the model in the US in 2012 (In the case of Shenzhen, the selling price minus the central and local governments' subsidy is 89,800 RMB).

Exhibit Summary
G3R  The G3R is a newly-developed large hatchback (BYD's main model). 4380/1705/1490 with a wheelbase of 2600mm. It is scheduled to be launched nationwide in May 2011 (In April 2011, its limited marketing in Shandong province began. The selling price is 59,900-73,900 RMB).
 The model comes with the company's own 1.5L (max. output 80kW/max. torque 144Nm)/1.8L (max. output 90kW/max.torque 160Nm) engine and 5-speed MT/CVT.
G6  The G6 is a new middle-class/high-end sedan. 4860/1825/1463 with a wheelbase of 2745mm. It comes with company's own 1.5L turbo engine (rated output 113kW/max. torque 240Nm) and company's own 6-speed DCT. It is scheduled to be launched in July 2011.

Exhibit Summary
Zhonghua Junjie FSV Plug-in  Debut. The Zhonghua Junjie FSV Plug-in is a Range-Extended-type PHEV sedan that is based on the Zhonghua Junjie FSV. The max. speed is 130km/h in an EV mode. The cruising range in New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) mode is up to 400km (up to 80km/full-charge in EV mode). It takes eight hours to fully charge the battery. The fuel consumption is improved by 40% compared to the same-type base model (capacity of the fuel tank is 25L). There are plans to launch the model in 2013.
 The model comes with a permanent magnet synchronous motor (rated output 30kW/max. output 65kW), a 2-cylinder engine with a displacement of 0.85L (rated output 27kW/3600rpm), a power generator (rated output 25kW), and a Swiss-based MES-DEA's ZEBRA nickel chloride battery (rated voltage 371V/rated capacity 64Ah/total capacity 23.8kWh, weight 243kg).
Zhonghua 530 HEV  Debut. The Zhonghua 530 HEV is a micro HEV sedan (5-seat). 4708/1788/1475 with a wheelbase of 2700mm. The model is developed based on the chassis of the Junjie FSV. It comes with an idle reduction system, a 1.6L 4A92-type engine (max. output 87kW/max. torque 151Nm), and a 5-speed MT. The fuel consumption is improved by 8 to 12% compared to the same-type base model. It will be launched in the second half of 2011 (selling price: about 80,000 RMB).
Jinbei Haise W  Debut. The Jinbei Haise W is an EV-version light van (11-seat). 4880/1880/2285 with a wheelbase of 2570mm. The max. speed is 110km/h. The cruising range is up to 180km at 50km/h and up to 120km in New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) mode. It takes 25 minutes to charge quickly to 80% and 10 hours to fully charge the battery.

 The model comes with a lithium-ion iron phosphate battery (rated voltage 336V/total capacity 47kWh), a drive motor (280-380V, rated output 30kW/max. output 65kW, rated torque 120Nm/max. torque 250Nm).

Exhibit Summary
Zhonghua 530  Debut. The Zhonghua 530 is a new sedan that is designed by Italy-based Pininfarina. It is the first model (5-seat, development code: Zhonghua A4) of a new mid-size passenger car platform that the company independently developed. It is Junjie's next-generation main midsize model. 4708/1788/1475 with a wheelbase of 2700mm. It will be launched in the second half of 2011 (selling price: about 100,000 RMB).
 The model comes with the company's own 1.5L BM15T-type turbo engine (max. output 100kW/max. torque 200Nm) and a 5-speed AT. The company plans to add a model with a 1.8L engine in the future.
Jinbei S30  Debut. The Jinbei S30 is a compact city SUV. 3995/1725/1644 with a wheelbase of 2500mm. The Mianyang plant in Sichuan province produces the model. It is scheduled to be launched in 2011 (selling price: about 80,000 RMB).

 The model comes with a 1.3L 4A13-type engine (max. output 65kW/max. torque 120Nm) or a 1.5L 4A15-type VVT engine (max. output 75kW/max. torque 135Nm).

Exhibit Summary
Tongyue EV  The Tongyue EV is an EV sedan based on the Tongyue, which JAC independently developed (4-seat, mainly for individual customers). 4155/1650/1445 with a wheelbase of 2400mm. The vehicle weight is 1200kg. It takes six to eight hours to fully charge the battery (A quick charge is not available). The maximum speed is 95km/h. The cruising range is up to150km at 60km/h and is up to 100km in New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) mode. The electricity consumption is 11kWh/100km at 60km/h. The launch date for individual customers is undecided (Limited test marketing began in January 2011).
 The model comes with a permanent magnet brushless DC motor (rated output 11kW/max. output 27kW, rated torque 35Nm/max. torque 170Nm), a lithium-ion iron phosphate battery (15kWh) supplied by a local manufacturer in China, and CVT.

Models other than new energy vehicles: 2nd-generation Refine, which is fully remodeled

Exhibit Summary
Refine 2 Hechang  The Refine 2 Hechang is a 2nd-generation Refine - New MPV (3-row, 7-seat high-end model). 5100/1840/1970 with a wheelbase of 3080mm. It is launched in April 2011 (selling price: 159,800-181,800 RMB).
 The model comes with the company's own engine, a 2.0L TCI turbo gasoline-powered HFC4GA3-1C-type engine (max. output 130kW/max. torque 250Nm, fuel consumption 11L/100km) or a 1.9L common-rail CTI diesel-powered HFC4DB1-2C-type engine (max. output 100kW/max. torque 285Nm, fuel consumption 7.8L/100km), and a 6-speed MT.

Emgrand GPEC-EC7 (PHEV)  The Emgrand GPEC-EC7 (PHEV) is a new mass-produced sedan (series PHEV, 5-seat), which is an upgraded version of the Emgrand GPECs-EC7, which was showcased at the Beijing Motor Show 2010. 4635/1789/1470 with a wheelbase of 2650mm. The cruising range is up to 400km (up to 50km/full-charge in EV mode). The Ningbo plant produces the model. There are plans to launch it in the second half of 2012 (selling price: about 150,000-200,000 RMB).
 "GPEC (Geely Plug-in Electric Hybrid Car)" is company's own series PHEV system that comes with a lithium-ion iron phosphate battery (336V/40Ah), a permanent magnet synchronous motor (rated output 30kW/max. output 70kW, rated torque 120Nm/max. torque 240Nm), an ISG motor (rated output 12kW/max. output 14kW, max. torque 50Nm), and company's own 1.0L L3I-type 3-cylinder engine (max. output 52kW/max. torque 91Nm).
Gleagle EK (New Panda EV)  The Gleagle EK (New Panda EV) is the latest EV hatchback model (5-seat) that is based on the Gleagle GC2-RV (Panda). 3598/1630/1465 with a wheelbase of 2340mm. The maximum speed is 116km/h.The cruising range is up to 120km. The electricity consumption is 12kWh/100km. It takes 35 minutes to charge quickly to 80% and six hours to fully charge the battery. The Linhai plant in Zhejiang province produces the model. There are plans to launch it in the second half of 2012.
 The model comes with a stepping synchronous motor (max. output 70kW/max. torque 226Nm) and a lithium-ion iron phosphate battery (345V/60Ah). It is equipped with electric power steering.
Gleagle IG EV  The Gleagle IG EV is an EV version of the Gleagle IG (gull-wing door, 3 + 1 seat). 3160/1700/1496 with a wheelbase of 2065mm. The maximum speed is 120km/h. The cruising range is up to 120km. It takes 35 minutes to charge quickly to 80% and six to eight hours to fully charge the battery. The electricity consumption is 12kWh/100km at 60km/h. The Ningbo plant in Zhejiang province produces the model. There are plans to launch it in 2013.
 The model comes with a stepping synchronous motor (max. output 70kW/max. torque 226Nm), a drive Li-ion battery (345V/55Ah), and a solar power generation system that charges the drive battery. It is equipped with electric power steering.

Englon SC5  The Englon SC5 is a sedan that is developed based on the European standard (5-seat). 4290/1745/1505 with a wheelbase of 1505mm. The Luqiao plant in Zhejiang province produces the model. It is scheduled to be launched at the end of 2011 (selling price: about 50,000-90,000 RMB).
 The model comes with a JL α-3G10-type engine and a 5-speed MT, a JL β-4G13-type/4G15-type engine and a 5-speed MT/4-speed AT, or a JL479Q-type/JL479QN-type engine and a 5-speed MT/4-speed AT.

Exhibit Summary
Voleex C20 EV  The Voleex C20 EV is a crossover EV (5-seat) that is based on the Voleex C20R. 4058/1727/1604mm. The maximum speed is 130km/h. The cruising range is up to 100km in New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) mode and up to 160km at 60km/h. It takes eight hours to fully charge the battery. Multiple lightweight materials are adopted. A test run of the model is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2011.
 The power system (max. output 56kW/low-speed torque 150Nm) is equipped with a water-cooled permanent magnet synchronous motor (max. output 32kW/max. torque 88Nm) and a large-capacity Li-ion battery (rated voltage 320V/19.2kWh/60Ah).
■Great Wall Motor exhibits independently-developed Range-extended-type PHEV platform
Exhibit Summary
GW Range - Extended-type PHEV platform  The GW Range-Extended-type PHEV platform is planned to be used in multiple models including sedan/hatchback/SUV. The fuel consumption in NEDC mode is about 3.5L/100km. The maximum speed is 160km/h. The cruising range is up to 700km (up to 85km/full charge at 60km/h in EV mode).
 The power system is a Range-Extended-type PHEV. It comes with an extender that combines the company's own GW3G10E-type engine (50kW/6000rpm, capacity of the fuel tank: 30L) and a permanent magnet synchronous motor (rated output 25kW/max. output 40kW, water-cooled) for power generation, a permanent magnet synchronous main AC motor (max. output 77kW, max. torque 242Nm/8000rpm) for driving, an AT, and a drive Li-ion battery (rated voltage 320V/17.5kWh, It takes five hours to charge from 30% to 100% on a 320V power source) as standard equipment. An auxiliary permanent magnet synchronous motor for driving (max. output 20kW, max. torque 85Nm/10000-12000rpm, naturally-cooled) is available as an option. Among them, the Li-ion battery can be used as a power source for one and half days in ordinary household.
 The water-cooled electric/electronic control module (200 - 400V) consists of a control unit for a main AC motor for driving (90kVA), a control unit for an auxiliary AC motor for driving (30kVA), a control unit for a power generation motor (40kVA), a control unit for an air compressor (3kVA), a DC-DC converter (1.6kW), and a charging unit (3kW).

Haval M4  The Haval M4 is a compact SUV that the company independently developed. 3964/1728/1617 with a wheelbase of 2383mm. The model comes with the company's own 1.5L VVT aluminum engine, GW4G15-type (max. output 78kW/max. torque 138Nm) and 5-speed MT/AMT. It is scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2011.
Voleex C20R  Debut. The Voleex C20R is a new crossover for leisure-oriented young customers (full-time 4WD). 4059/1727/1604 with a wheelbase of 2460mm. The model comes with company's own 1.5L VVT aluminum engine, GW4G15 (max. output 78kW/max. torque 138Nm) and 5-speed MT/5-spped AT/CVT. The Baoding plant in Hebei province produces the model. It is scheduled to be launched in 2011.
Wingle CL  The Wingle CL is a 4WD high-end global pickup (2-row, 4-door, and 4-seat). 5550/1885/1845 with a wheelbase of 3350mm. The model comes with a 2.0L 4C20-type engine (max. output 160kW/max. torque 324Nm)/2.0L 4D20A-type engine (max. output 110kW/max. torque 310Nm), and an AT. It will be launched as early as in 2012 (selling price: more than 150,000 RMB).

Exhibit Summary
Zotye M300 EV (dubbed: LangYue EV)  The Zotye M300 EV (dubbed: LangYue EV) is an EV version of MPV that is based on Fiat's Multipla (5-door, 5-seat). 4089/1871/1695 with a wheelbase of 2666mm. Two types of drive batteries are available - replaceable or fixed. The electricity consumption is 13kWh/100km.
 (1) replaceable version (with State Grid's lithium-ion iron phosphate battery): weight of the vehicle body 1600kg/gross vehicle weight 2000kg. The cruising range is up to 110km at 60km/h. The maximum speed is 120km/h. It takes at least three minutes to replace the battery.
 (2) fixed version (with a lithium polymer battery): weight of the vehicle body 1750kg/gross vehicle weight 2150kg. The cruising range is up to 200km at 60km/h. The maximum speed is 120km/h. The battery can be recharged by regular power source (voltage 220V) and by special (quick) charging stand (380V).
 In January 2011, a test run began in Hangzhou. In April 2011, one model with a replaceable battery had a fire accident in Hangzhou while operating as a taxi and the operation was suspended. It is reported by many media in China that this accident was due to trouble with the drive battery or its peripheral parts.

An EV version is also planned). 3826/1640/1446 with a wheelbase of 2385mm. The Hangzhou plant produces the model. It is scheduled to be launched in 2011 (selling price: 50,000-70,000 RMB).
 The model comes with Mitsubishi's engine - a 1.3L 4A90M-type engine (max. output 71kW/max. torque 126Nm) or a 1.5L VVT 4A91S-type engine (max. output 88kW/max. torque 147Nm) - and a 5-speed MT/Hyundai's 4-speed AT (4F16-type).
Zotye Z200 (Dubbed: LangJun)  The Zotye Z200 (Dubbed: LangJun) is an economy sedan for family use. 4277/1703/1490 with a wheelbase of 2438mm. The Hangzhou plant produces the model. It is scheduled to be launched in 2011 (selling price: about 44,000-70,000 RMB).
 The model comes with Mitsubishi's engine - a 1.3L 4A90M-type engine (max. output 71kW/max. torque 126Nm) or a 1.5L VVT 4A91S-type (max. output 88kW/max. torque 147Nm) - and 5-speed MT/4-speed AT.
Zotye Z300  The Zotye Z300 is company's first sedan (development code: "Zotye A01", compact model). The company has independently developed the model as a strategic model. It comes with Mitsubishi's 1.5L VVT 4A91S-type engine (max. output 88kW/max. torque 147Nm). The Hangzhou plant produces the model. It is planned to be launched in December 2011.
Zotye T200  The Zotye T200 is an independently-developed compact SUV, which is based on the Zotye 2008 (development code: Zotye S21). The Yongkang plant in Zhejiang province produces the model. There are plans to launch it by April 2012.
Zotye T300  The Zotye T300 is a crossover that the company independently developed (development code: Zotye A11). The model shares the same platform with the Zotye Z300. It comes with Mitsubishi's 1.5L VVT 4A91S-type engine (max. output 88kW/max. torque 147Nm). The Yongkang plant in Zhejiang province produces the model. There are plans to launch it by April 2012.
Zotye T600  The Zotye T600 is a city SUV (development code: Zotye B11). The wheelbase is 2800mm. The model comes with an engine with maximum output of 115kW. The Yongkang plant in Zhejiang province produces the model. It is planned to be launched in 2012.

Soueast Motor: own-brand EV sedan makes a debut

 

Exhibit Summary
V3 LingYue EV  Debut. The V3 LingYue EV is an EV sedan developed based on the V3 LingYue, which is under the company's own brand (Soueast Motor's strategic new-energy vehicle). 4420/1700/1415 with a wheelbase of 2500mm. The running speed is up to 120km/h. The cruising range is up to 160km at 60km/h. It takes six hours to fully charge the battery.
 The power system consists of a motor for front wheel drive (max. output 50kW/max.torque 180Nm), a high-performance lithium-ion iron phosphate battery (345V/60Ah/20kWh), and a regenerative brake.
