Auto sales in Vietnam down 3.1% in December, up 11.7% in 2019
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on January 10, automobile sales (including non-VAMA member import) in Vietnam were down 3.1% year on year to 33,159 units in December. CKD volume was 19,700 units, and CBU volume was 13,459 units.
2019 annual sales were up 11.7% to 322,322 units, marked a record sales. CKD volume was down 12.2% to 189,450 units, and CBU volume was up 82.1% to 132,872 units.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in 2019 were up 10.6% to 306,073 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were up 19.6%, commercial vehicles were down 7.4%, and special purpose vehicles were down 44.5%
By brand sales in 2019 based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Toyota (excluding Lexus) increased 20.5% to 79,328 units (24.6% market share). Truong Hai fall 6.1% to 55,343 units (17.2% share). Honda was up 22.2% to 33,102 units (10.3% share). Thaco Mazda sales were flat to 32,731 units (10.2% share). Ford sales was up 30.6% to 32,175 units (10.0% share).
In line with ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement, Vietnam lowered the tariff on the CBU imports from ASEAN countries from 30% to 0% in January 2018.
However, on January 1, 2018, Vietnam imposed new decrees that traders should only be permitted to import automobiles if they can provide valid vehicle registration certificates issued by authorities from the countries of origin. Original quality control certificates for each vehicle and letters of authorization regarding recalls of defective vehicles from the manufacturers are also required, along with copies of quality assurance certificates provided by the countries of origin.
Consequently, CBU import in January and February 2018 were almost zero and CBU sales in 2019 significantly increased.

Auto sales in Vietnam down 2.3% in November
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on December 10, automobile sales (including non-VAMA member import) in Vietnam were down 2.3% year on year to 29,846 units in November.
CKD volume was 16,595 units, down 13%, and CBU volume was 13,251 units, up 98%.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in November were down 5.8% to 27,989 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were down 0.7%, commercial vehicles were down 18.3%, and special purpose vehicles were down 34.0%.
By brand sales in November based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Toyota (excluding Lexus) was down 11.0% y/y to 6,612 units and a 22.2% market share. Truong Hai was up 11.5% to 5,296 units and a 17.7% market share. Mitsubishi was up 125.2% to 3,750 units and a 12.6% market share. Honda was up 4.2% to 3,063 units and a 10.3% market share. Ford was down 23.7% to 2,646 units and a 8.9% market share. Thaco Mazda was down 34.9% to 2,414 units and a 8.1% market share.
In line with ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement, Vietnam lowered the tariff on the CBU imports from ASEAN countries from 30.0% to 0.0% in January 2018. However, on January 1, 2018, Vietnam imposed new decrees to create a non-tariff barrier. Consequently CBU import in January and February 2018 were almost zero.
YTD sales in Vietnam were up 13.6% to の289,128 units. YTD CKD sales were down 12.6% to 169,739 units, while CBU sales were up 98.5% to 119,389 units.

Auto sales in Vietnam up 0.2% in October
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on November 9, automobile sales (including non-VAMA member import) in Vietnam were up 0.2% year on year to 28,948 units in October.
CKD volume was 16,406 units, down 12.0%, and CBU volume was 12,542 units, up 118.0%.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in October were down 2.7% to 27,419 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were down 2.1%, commercial vehicles were down 1.7%, and special purpose vehicles were down 47.4%.
By brand sales in October based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Toyota (excluding Lexus) was down 14.4% y/y to 7,216 units and a 24.9% market share. Truong Hai was flat to 4,863 units and a 16.8% market share. Mitsubishi was up 181.9% to 3,566 units and a 12.3% market share. Ford was up 20.9% to 3,114 units and a 10.8% market share. Honda was down 12.0% to 3,058 units and a 10.6% market share. Thaco Mazda was down 13.9% to 2,515 units and a 8.7% market share.

Auto sales in Vietnam up 9.5% in September
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on October 10, automobile sales (including non-VAMA member import) in Vietnam were up 9.5% year on year to 27,767 units in September.
CKD volume was 16,994 units, down 13%, and CBU volume was 10,773 units, up 150.0%.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in September were up 13.1% to 27,058 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were up 22.0%, commercial vehicles were down 6.9%, and special purpose vehicles were down 27.1%.
By brand sales in September based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Toyota (excluding Lexus) was up 17.2% y/y to 7,334 units and a 26.4% market share. Truong Hai was up 10.9% to 4,823 units and a 17.4% market share. Mitsubishi was up 203.9% to 3,063 units and a 11.0% market share. Honda was up 21.5% to 2,866 units and a 10.3% market share. Ford was up 7.5% to 2,501 units and a 9.0% market share. Thaco Mazda was up 4.3% to 2,401 units and a 8.6% market share.

Auto sales in Vietnam up 4.8% in August
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on September 11, automobile sales (including non-VAMA member import) in Vietnam were up 4.8% year on year to 21,483 units in August.
CKD volume was 12,594 units, down 14%, and CBU volume was 8,889 units, up 178%.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in August were up 6.3% to 20,363 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were up 11.5%, commercial vehicles were down 5.8%, and special purpose vehicles were up 0.5%.
By brand sales in August based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Toyota (excluding Lexus) was up 7.1% y/y to 5,066 units. Truong Hai was down 1.6% to 3,754 units. Ford was up 94.5% to 2,573 units. VinaStar was up 169.7% to 2,104 units. Thaco Mazda was down 0.8% to 2,008 units. Honda was down 12.1% to 1,867 units.

Auto sales in Vietnam up 24.2% in July
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on August 12, automobile sales (including non-VAMA member import) in Vietnam were up 24.2% year on year to 26,666 units in July.
CKD volume was 15,275 units, down 14%, and CBU volume was 11,391 units, up 207%.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in July were up 27.8% to 25,828 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were up 33.8%, commercial vehicles were up 13.6%, and special purpose vehicles were up 23.1%.
By brand sales in July based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Toyota (excluding Lexus) was up 72.7% y/y to 7,375 units. Truong Hai was down 0.1% to 4,637 units. Thaco Mazda was up 17.7% to 2,846 units. Honda was up 48.4% to 2,840 units. Ford was up 97.9% to 2,785 units. VinaStar was up 395.5% to 1,873 units.
In line with ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement, Vietnam lowered the tariff on the CBU imports from ASEAN countries from 30.0% to 0.0% in January 2018. However, on January 1, 2018, Vietnam imposed new decrees to create a non-tariff barrier. Consequently CBU import in January and February 2018 were almost zero.
YTD sales in Vietnam were up 21.6% to 180,940 units. YTD CKD sales were down 14.2% to 107,006 units, while CBU sales were up 207.3% to 73,934 units.

Auto sales in Vietnam up 25.6% in June
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on July 9, automobile sales (including non-VAMA member import) in Vietnam were up 25.6% year on year to 27,520 units in June.
CKD volume was 16,162 units, down 14%, and CBU volume was 11,358 units, up 203%.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in June were up 22.2% to 26,207 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were up 33.3%, commercial vehicles were on par with the year on year volume, and special purpose vehicles were down 44.9%.
By brand sales in June based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Toyota (excluding Lexus) was up 77.0% y/y to 7,554 units. Truong Hai was up 6.3% to 5,160 units. Honda was up 32.7% to 3,001 units. Ford was up 105.3% to 2,800 units. VinaStar was up 878.8% to 2,447 units. VinaMazda was down 23.2% to 2,060 units.
In line with ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement, Vietnam lowered the tariff on the CBU imports from ASEAN countries from 30.0% to 0.0% in January 2018. However, on January 1, 2018, Vietnam imposed new decrees to create a non-tariff barrier. Consequently CBU import in January and February 2018 were almost zero.
YTD sales in Vietnam were up 21.3% to 154,273 units. YTD CKD sales were down 13.9% to 91,731 units, while CBU sales were up 202.6% to 62,542 units.

Auto sales in Vietnam up 18.7% in May
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on June 11, automobile sales (including non-VAMA member import) in Vietnam were up 18.7% year on year to 27,373 units in May.
CKD volume was 15,162 units, down 14%, and CBU volume was 12,211 units, up 210%.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in May were up 16.3% to 26,094 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were up 28.1%, commercial vehicles were down 3.6%, and special purpose vehicles were down 43.2%.
By brand sales in May based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Toyota (excluding Lexus) was up 33.0% y/y to 6,321 units. Truong Hai was down 15.0% to 4,868 units. VinaStar was up 645.9% to 3,088 units. Ford was up 106.8% to 3,000 units. Honda was up 17.3% to 2,975 units. VinaMazda was down 6.9% to 2,444 units. In line with ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement, Vietnam lowered the tariff on the CBU imports from ASEAN countries from 30.0% to 0.0% in January 2018. However, on January 1, 2018, Vietnam imposed new decrees to create a non-tariff barrier. Consequently CBU import in January and February 2018 were almost zero.

Auto sales in Vietnam down 0.5% in April
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on May 13, automobile sales (including non-VAMA member import) in Vietnam were down 0.5% year on year to 21,021 units in April.
CKD volume was 14,047 units, down 11.0%, and CBU volume was 6,947 units, up 202.0%.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in April were down 2.8% to 20,106 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were up 5.5%, commercial vehicles were down 8.9%, and special purpose vehicles were down 64.0%.
By brand sales in April based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Truong Hai was down 16.9% y/y to 5,248 units. Toyota (excluding Lexus) was down 1.1% to 4,188 units. VinaMazda was up 28.9% to 2,608 units. Ford was up 58.9% to 2,160 units. Honda was down 37.6% to 1,756 units. VinaStar was up 187.4% to 1,299 units.

Auto sales in Vietnam up 52.9% in March
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on April 10, automobile sales (including non-VAMA member import) in Vietnam were up 52.9% year on year to 32,308 units in March.
CKD volume was 19,769 units, down 8%, and CBU volume was 12,539 units, up 234%.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in March were up 44.9% to 30,055 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were up 74.2%, commercial vehicles were up 11.5%, and special purpose vehicles were down 59.1%.
By brand sales in March based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Toyota (excluding Lexus) was up 101.5% y/y to 9,068 units. Truong Hai was down 14.6% to 5,221 units. Honda was up 107.0% to 2,714 units. VinaMazda was up 24.2% to 2,643 units. VinaStar was up 573.2% to 2,585 units.
In line with ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement, Vietnam lowered the tariff on the CBU imports from ASEAN countries from 30% to 0% in January 2018. However, on January 1, 2018, Vietnam imposed new decrees to create a non-tariff barrier. Consequently CBU import in January and February 2018 were almost zero.
YTD sales in Vietnam were up 31.4% to 78,252 units. YTD CKD sales were down 7.5% to 46,253 units, while CBU sales were up 233.8% to 31,999 units.

Auto sales in Vietnam down 6.0% in February

According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on March 13, automobile sales (including non-VAMA member import) in Vietnam were down 6.0% year on year to 13,143 units in February.
CKD volume was 7,685 units, down 16%, and CBU volume was 5,458 units, up 179%.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in February were down 6.1% to 11,453 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were down 0.1%, commercial vehicles were down 15.8%, and special purpose vehicles were down 62.6%.

Auto sales in Vietnam up 28.6% in January
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on February 20, automobile sales (including non-VAMA member import) in Vietnam were up 28.6% year on year to 33,484 units in January.
CKD volume was 18,799 units, down 9.7%, and CBU volume was 14,685 units, up 165.9%.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in January were up 24.2% to 31,789 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were up 42.6%, commercial vehicles were down 23.5%, and special purpose vehicles were down 13.3%.
