Explaining the decline in the auto market during the peak shopping season at the end of the year, experts say that it is due to the impact of many factors, including difficulty in accessing loans from banks and interest rates. Highinterest rates caused many customers to postpone their demand for cars at the end of the year.

Auto sales in Vietnam up 6.7% in June
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on July 13, automobile sales (including imported vehicles of non-VAMA manufactures' sales) in Vietnam were up 6.7% year on year 25,159 units in June. CKD volume was 11,044 units and CBU volume was 14,115 units.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in June were up 7.3% y/y to 22,067 units.
VAMA members passenger car sales were up 10.0%, commercial vehicles were up 1.3%, and special purpose vehicles were down 9.2%.
Sales growth last month slowed sharply after surging 78.2% to a record high of 39,469 units in May, as manufacturers moved to fulfil pent up demand following the recent covid lockdowns and the global semiconductor shortage.
By brand sales in June based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Toyota (excluding Lexus) was up 1.0% y/y to 5,179 units and a 20.6% market share. Thaco Kia was up 6.9% to 3,517 units and a 14.0% market share. Mitsubishi was up 25.1% to 2,283 units and a 9.1% market share. Ford was up 58.4% to 2,034 units and a 8.1% market share. Thaco Mazda was up 3.7% to 1,931 units and a 7.7% market share. Thaco Truck was down 8.7% to 1,757 units and a 7.0% market share. Honda was up 9.8% to 1,702 units and an 6.8% market share.
Cumulative sales for the six months of the year rose 34.1% y/y to 201,840 units. Of the total, sales of CKD cars increased 37% y/y to 116,066 units, and those of CBU imported cars increased 30% y/y to 85,774 units.
According to industry experts, the main cause of the above decline is the semiconductor crisis and the lack of chips that have not been resolved on a global scale, as well as the political impact in some regions. This has affected the production output of car manufacturers.
In addition, the policy of 50% reduction in registration fees for domestically assembled cars ended at the end of May, so many people bought cars in the previous period. This partly affects the sales growth decline in June.
