According to AMIA, Mexican automobile sales in December were down 17.6% over last year, at 158,717 vehicles. Passenger cars were down 22.1% to 99,411 units, while SUVs and pickups were down 8.7% to 59,306 units.
2017 annual sales were down 4.6% to 1,530,317 units.
Among by maker sales in 2017, Nissan is the market leader with 23.8% market share. GM follows with 16.9%, then VW Group with 15.3%. Toyota was 4th with 6.9% market share, and FCA was 5th with 6.6%. Kia achieved a significant market share increase from 3.6% in 2016 to 5.7% in 2017.
By segment sales in 2017, the largest segment was Subcompact, down 8.0% y/y to 556,834 units. Chevrolet Aveo is the segment leader, followed by VW Vento. Compact car segment was the second largest with 340,380 units down 7.3%. Nissan Versa is the segment leader, followed by VW Jetta. The third largest segment was SUV with 330,940 units, up 6.0%. Honda CR-V leads the segment, followed by Nissan X-Trail. Pickup truck segment sales were 200,603 units, down 5.3%. Nissan NP300 is the segment leader.

On December 6, the Mexican automotive association AMIA reported sales of 141,434 light vehicles in November, representing an 8.5% decrease from the same month in 2016.
November was the sixth consecutive month that sales have been less than the corresponding month one year earlier.
Volkswagen Group sales of 20,246 units in November had decreased 8.0% from the same month in 2016.
General Motors sold 25,281 units in November, a decrease of 22.3% from last year.
Ford sold 6,603 units, a decrease of 21.4%, and FCA sold 8,488 units, a decrease of 18.6%.
Nissan sales of 33,246 units in November decreased 12.9% from the same month last year.
Toyota sold 9,406 units, a decrease of 11.6% from 2016, and Honda sold 8,006 units, a decrease of 6.6% from November 2016.
Mazda sales increased 16.0% to 5,958 units.
Now manufacturing in Mexico, Kia sold 7,815 units in November, an increase of 43.1% from 2016, and 78,633 units in the first eleven months of 2017, up 51.0% from the same period a year earlier.
Hyundai sales increased 42.1% to 5,011 units in November.
By segment sales in November, 49,881 units of subcompact cars were sold. Chevrolt Aveo (5,552 units) was a leader, followed by VW Vento (5,228 units) and Nissan March (4,699 units). In the compact car segment, 33,344 units were sold. Nissan Versa (11,062 units) was a leader, followed by Nissann Sentra (4,438 units) and VW Jetta (3,115 units). In the SUV segment, 30,984 units were sold. Nissan X-Trail (2,343 units) was a leader, followed by Nissan Kicks (2,279 unts). In the pick-up segment, 17,257 units were sold. Nissan NP300 (5,682 units) took top position.
YTD sales were down 2.8% to 1,371,600 units.

On November 3, the Mexican automotive association AMIA reported sales of 123,318 light vehicles in October, representing a 10.2% decrease from the same month in 2016.
Sales had fallen 11.5% in September after Mexico suffered three major earthquakes with magnitudes between 6.1 and 8.1 in the month.
Sales of 1,230,166 vehicles through the first ten months of 2017 represent a 2.1% decrease from the same period in 2016.
Volkswagen Group sales of 18,739 units in October had decreased 8.9% from the same month in 2016.
General Motors sold 21,829 units in October, a decrease of 14.3% from last year.
Ford sold 6,426 units, a decrease of 27.2%, and FCA sold 8,493 units, a decrease of 1.8%.
Nissan sales of 27,277 units in October decreased 23.5% from the same month last year.
Toyota sold 7,713 units, a decrease of 10.0% from 2016, and Honda sold 6,916 units, a decrease of 5.0% from October 2016.
Mazda sales increased 2.3% to 4,510 units.
Now manufacturing in Mexico, Kia sold 7,603 units in October, an increase of 26.5% from 2016, and 70,818 units in the first ten months of 2017, up 51.9% from the same period a year earlier.
Hyundai sales increased 33.8% to 4,303 units in October.

On October 10, the Mexican automotive association AMIA reported sales of 116,356 light vehicles in September, representing an 11.5% decrease from the same month in 2016.
Mexico suffered three major earthquakes with magnitudes between 6.1 and 8.1 in September, resulting in more than 500 deaths and 6,000 people injured.
Sales of 1,106,848 vehicles through the first nine months of 2017 represent a 1.1% decrease from the same period in 2016.
Volkswagen Group sales decreased 15.2% to 17,292 units.
General Motors sold 18,077 units in September, a decrease of 24.5% from last year.
Ford sold 6,694 units, a decrease of 25.0%, and FCA sold 8,544 units, a decrease of 0.4%.
Nissan sales of 28,159 units in September decreased 13.1% from the same month last year.
Toyota sold 7,515 units, a decrease of 7.9% from 2016, and Honda sold 5,669 units, a decrease of 13.3% from September 2016.
Mazda sales decreased 17.9% to 3,888 units.
Now manufacturing in Mexico, Kia sold 7,503 units in September, an increase of 27.1% from 2016, and 63,215 units in the first nine months of 2017, up 55.7% from the same period a year earlier.
Hyundai sales increased 24.1% to 4,100 units in September.

On September 7, the Mexican automotive association AMIA reported sales of 125,331 light vehicles in August, representing a 6.5% decrease from the same month in 2016.
Sales of 990,492 vehicles through the first eight months of 2017 represent a 0.3% increase over the same period in 2016.
Nissan sales of 29,008 units in August decreased 12.6% from the same month last year.
General Motors sold 20,667 units in August, a decrease of 15.9% from last year.
Volkswagen Group sales decreased 13.4% to 18,459 units.
FCA sold 8,850 units, an increase of 13.3%, and Ford sold 7,271 units, a decrease of 17.5%.
Toyota sold 8,261 units in August, a decrease of 3.1% from 2016, and Honda sold 7,661 units, an increase of 1.2% from last year.
Mazda sales increased 1.9% to 4,595 units.
Kia sold 7,403 units in August, an increase of 29.8% from 2016, and 55,712 units in the first eight months of 2017, up 60.5% from the same period a year earlier.
Hyundai sales increased 23.1% to 4,003 units.

On August 1, the Mexican automotive association AMIA reported sales of 122,110 light vehicles in July, representing a 7.3% decrease from the same month in 2016.
Sales of 865,161 vehicles through the first seven months of 2017 represent a 1.4% increase over the same period in 2016.
Kia sold 7,254 units in July, an increase of 31.7% from 2016, and 48,309 units in the first seven months of 2017, up 66.5% from the same period a year earlier.
Hyundai sales increased 9.3% to 3,337 units.
Volkswagen Group sales decreased 2.3% to 20,647 units.
General Motors sold 19,693 units in July, a decrease of 21.7% from last year.
Ford sold 6,732 units, a decrease of 19.4%, and FCA sold 8,459 units, an increase of 11.1%.
Nissan sales of 28,267 units in July decreased 14.9% from the same month last year.
Toyota sold 7,847 units in July, a decrease of 5.3% from 2016, and Honda sold 6,612 units, a decrease of 4.8% from last year.
Mazda sales increased 8.8% to 4,476 units.

Mexican vehicle sales down 5.3% in June, up 2.9% first half of 2017
On July 3, the Mexican automotive association AMIA reported sales of 127,410 light vehicles in June, representing a 5.3% decrease from the same month in 2016.
Sales of 743,051 vehicles in the first six months of 2017 represent a 2.9% increase over the same period in 2016.
Kia sold 7,430 units in June, an increase of 42.4% from 2016, and 41,055 units in the first six months of 2017, up 74.7% from the same period a year earlier.
Toyota sold 7,850 units in June, an increase of 0.3%, and Honda sold 7,194 units, an increase of 6.3% from last year.
Mazda sales increased 11.8% to 4,441 units and Hyundai sales increased 20.1% to 3,703 units.
Nissan sales of 30,881 units in June decreased 7.8% from the same month last year.
Volkswagen sales increased 0.5% to 20,752 units.
General Motors sold 21,262 units in June, a decrease of 27.1% from last year.
Ford sold 6,662 units, a decrease of 14.4%, and FCA sold 8,010 units, a decrease of 3.2%.

On June 6, the Mexican automotive association AMIA reported sales of 122,916 light vehicle in May representing a 1.1% increase from the same month in 2016.
Sales of 615,641 vehicles in the first five months of 2017 represent a 4.8% increase over the same period in 2016.
By manufacturer sales in May, Nissan sold 29,251 units up 2.1% year over year. GM sales decreased 14.9% to 20,638 units. VW Group sold 19,080 units down 6.0%. Toyota sales were up 10.0% to 8,719 units. Honda increased its sales by 25.7% to 7,822 units.

On May 3, the Mexican automotive association AMIA reported sales of 114,477 light vehicle in April representing a 3.3% decrease from the same month in 2016.
Sales of 492,725 vehicles in the first four months of 2017 represent a 5.8% increase over the same period in 2016.
Kia sold 7,210 units in April, an increase of 78.8% from 2016 and a reflection of the activity of its new Mexican plant.
Toyota sold 9,009 units in April, an increase of 16.6%, and Honda sold 6,710 units, an increase of 11.0% from last year.
Mazda sales increased 5.5% to 3,830 units and Hyundai sales increased 5.0% to 3,205 units.
Nissan sales of 27,434 units in April decreased 4.6% from the same month last year.
Volkswagen sales decreased 12.1% to 17,228 units.
General Motors sold 19,584 units in April, a decrease of 14.6% from last year.
Ford sold 5,955 units, a decrease of 20.9%, and FCA sold 6,702 units, a decrease of 8.5%.

Mexican vehicle sales up 17.2% in March
The Asociacion Mexicana de la Industria Automotriz (AMIA) released March 2017 figures on April 6. Mexican March sales of 137,012 light vehicles were 17.2% more than in March 2016.
The first three month sales were 378,248 vehicles sold, 8.9% higher than the units sold in the same period last year. The Mexican sales of light vehicles recorded the best historical levels, for March and for the first three month sales.
By manufacturer sales in March, Nissan sold 37,263 units up 20.4% year over year. GM sales increased 13.4% to 24,027 units. VW Group sold 20,532 units up 6.2%. Toyota sales were up 23.1% to 9,549 units. FCA increased its sales by 6.2% to 8,436 units.

The Asociacion Mexicana de la Industria Automotriz (AMIA) released February 2017 figures on March 6. Mexican February sales of 117,976 light vehicles were 6.5% more than in February 2016.
The first two month sales were 241,236 vehicles sold, 4.7% higher than the units sold in the same period last year. The Mexican sales of light vehicles recorded the best historical levels, for February and for the first two month sales.
By manufacturer sales in February, Nissan sold 29,907 units up 4.8% year over year. GM sales increased 6.8% to 19,329 units. VW Group sold 18,794 units down 1.9%. Toyota sales were up 16.4% to 8,137 units. FCA increased its sales by 8.6% to 8,059 units.

Mexican vehicle sales rise 3.0% in January
On February 7, the Mexican automotive association AMIA reported that the 123,260 vehicles sold in January represented a 3.0% increase from the same month the previous year.
Of January’s sales totals, 81,700 passenger cars were sold and 41,560 light trucks were sold.
Nissan sales of 28,829 units in January had decreased 5.7% from the same month last year.
Volkswagen Group sales increased 1.3% to 19,512 units.
General Motors sold 18,410 units in January, a decrease of 2.9%.
FCA sold 9,612 units, an increase of 14.8%, and Honda sold 8,547 units, a decrease of 1.8%.
Toyota sold 8,049 units in Janury, an increase of 4.5% from last year.
Kia sold 5,780 units, an increase of 85.9% from last January.
