March vehicle sales in Thailand down 0.5%, production down 6.1% (detailed report)
According to the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), March vehicle sales in Thailand decreased 0.5% year over year to 55,798 units. In the first 3 months of 2025, vehicle sales were 153,193 units, a decline of 6.5% YoY.  According to the FTI, the decline in overall sales was primarily due to a drop in pickup truck sales, as financial institutions remain cautious in approving auto loans amid concerns over high household debt, slow economic growth, and rising living costs.
According to data compiled by Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT), by maker sales in March, Toyota was flat at 21,575 units. Honda was down 3.8% to 7,909 units and Isuzu was down 17.4% to 7,320 units. BYD sales were up 183.0% to 3,204 units, and Mitsubishi sales were down 6.3% to 2,823 units.
By body type sales in March, passenger cars were down 5.8% YoY to 21,054 units, while commercial vehicles were up 2.9% to 34,744 units. Pickup sales included in the commercial vehicle sales were down 6.6% to 18,355 units.
The Toyota Hilux was the best-selling model in March with 5,956 units, followed by Isuzu D-Max with 4,968 units, Toyota Yaris ATIV with 4,187 units, Toyota Yaris Cross with 3,303 units and Honda City with 2,850 units.
New vehicle production in March decreased 6.1% to 129,909 units. Vehicle production for domestic sales and exports in March contributed 36% and 64% respectively. In the first 3 months of 2025, vehicle production reached 352,499 units, down 14.9% YoY.
Vehicle exports in March 2025 amounted to 80,914 units, marked a drop of 14.9% YoY. According to the FTI, the decline was attributed to model changes in certain passenger cars, stricter carbon emission regulations in some countries, and the influx of low-cost Chinese electric vehicles in several key export markets. As a result, exports fell in regions including Australia, the Middle East, Europe, Central America, and South America. Vehicle export in March was valued at THB 57.4 billion, down 15.5%. Vehicle exports in the first 3 months of 2025 reached 220,139 units, down 18.6% YoY.

Flash report, January 2025

Feb 25, 2025

*There are cases where recently released data and detailed information in the database do not match up for reasons including different information sources, and discrepancies between preliminary reports and confirmed data.

January vehicle sales in Thailand down 12.3%, production down 24.6% (detailed report)
According to the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), January vehicle sales in Thailand decreased 12.3% year over year to 48,092 units.
According to data compiled by Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT), by maker sales in January, Toyota was down 0.8% to 17,379 units. Honda was down 14.9% to 7,062 units and Isuzu was down 22.6% to 6,137 units. BYD sales were down 57.3% to 3,331 units, and Mitsubishi sales were up 9.8% to 2,108 units.
By body type sales in January, passenger cars were down 22.0% year over year to 18,254 units, while commercial vehicles were down 5.0% to 29,838 units. Pickup sales included in the commercial vehicle sales were down 14.4% to 15,363 units.
The Isuzu D-Max was the best-selling model in January with 7,211 units, followed by Toyota Hilux with 5,901 units, Toyota Yaris ATIV with 5,381 units, Toyota Yaris Cross with 4,003 units and Honda City with 3,385 units. Among Chinese brand models, BYD Sealion 07 ranked sixth with 1,757 units.
New vehicle production in January decreased 24.6% to 107,103 units. Vehicle production for domestic sales and exports in January contributed 30% and 70% respectively. Production of passenger cars, 1-ton pickups, and 5–10-ton trucks continued to witness a YoY drop.
Vehicle exports in January decreased 28.1% to 62,321 units, the lowest in 33 months. According to the FTI, after many holidays in December 2024, some companies opened late in January, resulting in less production and hence fewer cars being exported to the Australian, Middle Eastern, European, Central, and South American markets. Vehicle export in January was valued at THB 41.4 billion, down 31.6%.
According to the FTI, the financial institutions continued to be strict in granting auto loans due to high household debt and the slow domestic economy, which grew only 2.5% in 2024. The manufacturing production index (MPI) continued to decline, especially automotive production, which has many related industries. Many workers have lower incomes, causing them to spend less, resulting in slow economic growth. Therefore, the government is requested to accelerate the launch of measures that help guarantee the release of loans, especially for pickup trucks.
