Vehicle exports in December decreased 5.2% to 68,481 units. Exports saw decline in almost all countries which are Thailand trading partners, except in Asia, Australia, and Oceania markets. The 2020 vehicle export declined 30.2% to 735,842 units valued at THB 411 billion, decreased 24.7%.
The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) forecasts that vehicle production in Thailand are expected to decrease 5.1% to 1.5 million units in 2021 with 750,000 units for domestic sales and exports respectively. FTI explained that this production target was set in accordance with the concern over the second wave of the spread of coronavirus in Thailand and other countries, which are still delaying the full recovery of Thailand and its trading partners’ economics. Moreover, several carmakers in Thailand and overseas countries are now facing parts shortage issue, which caused them to halt production of some car models temporarily.
