CAMPI-TMA: April 2025 vehicle sales in Philippines reach 33,580 units, down 10.0% YoY
Reported on May 20, 2025, in a report released by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA), vehicle sales in April fell 10.0% YoY to 33,580 units, marking the first YoY drop in monthly sales since February 2022. Compared to March 2025, sales were also down by 16.7%.
Passenger car sales saw a sharp 35.5% YoY decline to 6,498 units, while commercial vehicle sales slipped slightly by 0.7% to 27,082 units. Electrified vehicles posted a total of 1,509 units sold, consisting of 1,200 HEVs, 286 BEVs, and 23 PHEVs.
CAMPI attributed the slowdown to seasonal trends, economic conditions, and shifting consumer preferences. Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. pointed to additional factors such as global market volatility and the recent announcement of U.S. reciprocal tariffs, which may have dampened consumer and business confidence. These developments could impact global trade and, by extension, the Philippine economy.
An election-related government spending ban, which temporarily restricted certain purchases, including vehicles, ahead of the midterm elections, was also cited as a contributing factor.
Vehicle sales from January to April 2025 rose 2.5% YoY to 150,654 units, driven by a 10.3% increase in commercial vehicle sales (119,824 units), offsetting a 19.5% decline in passenger car sales (30,830 units). Electrified vehicle sales during the 4-month period reached 6,820 units.
Toyota remained the market leader with a 47.7% share, followed by Mitsubishi Motors at 19.8% and Nissan at 5.4%.
