German passenger car sales increase 9.9% in December, decrease 19.1% for 2020
On January 8, the Germany Federal Motor Vehicle Office (KBA) announced that there were 311,394 new passenger car registrations in December, a 9.9% increase from the same month last year.
Full-year registrations of 2,917,678 vehicles in 2020 represented an decrease of 19.1% from 2019.
In 2020, Volkswagen brand sales of 525,612 units (18.0% market share) decreased 21.3% over the previous year.
Mercedes-Benz sales of 303,185 units (10.4% share) decreased 10.6% and BMW sales of 240,968 units (8.3% share) decreased 13.7%. Audi brand sales of 213,934 units (7.3% share) decreased 19.9% and Ford sales of 194,250 units (6.7% share) decreased 30.6% and Skoda sales of 181,198 units (6.2% share) decreased 13.0% in 2020.
In 2020, gasoline-powered vehicles accounted for a 46.7% market share, diesel vehicles had a 28.1% market share. Hybrid vehicles had a 18.1% and EV had a 6.7% market share.
Sales of 26,000 trucks in December represented an increase of 1.5% from last December, while the sales of 888 buses were a 22.1% increase. In 2020, sales of 295,166 trucks represented a decrease of 14.1% from 2019, while the sales of 6,460 buses were a 0.4% increase.
The VDA announced that monthly passenger car exports in December were flat to 219,400 units and domestic production of 280,800 units had increased 1% from last December.
Full-year passenger car exports of 2,633,100 units had decreased 24% year over year, while full-year domestic production of 3,508,500 units represented a 25% decrease.

German passenger car sales fall 3.0% in November
On December 4, the Germany Federal Motor Vehicle Office (KBA) announced that there were 290,150 new passenger car registrations in November, a 3.0% decrease from the same month last year.
Year-to-date sales decreased 21.6% with 2,606,284 cars registered in the first eleven months of 2020.
Volkswagen brand sales of 51,087 units (17.6% market share) decreased 18.4% in November compared to the same month in 2019.
Mercedes-Benz sales of 32,869 units (11.3% share) increased 0.5% from last year.
BMW sales of 24,532 units (8.5% share) decreased 1.4% in November.
Ford sales of 19,669 units (6.8% share) decreased 15.8% from last year.
Audi sales of 19,149 units (6.6% share) increased 3.1% in November.
Opel sales of 18,338 units (6.3% share) increased 17.1% from the same month last year.
Sales of 31,065 trucks in November represented an increase of 3.8% from the previous year’s results, while sales of 721 buses represented an increase of 11.6%.
In November, gasoline-powered vehicles accounted for a 40.4% market share, diesel vehicles had a 24.3% market share, electric vehicles had about 10.0% market share and hybrid vehicles had about 24.8% market share. Average CO2 emissions fell by 18.8 percent and amounted to 126.2 g/km.
The VDA announced that monthly passenger car exports of 340,000 units had increased 11% and domestic production of 449,900 units had increased 7% from last October.

German passenger car sales fall 3.6% in October
On November 4, the Germany Federal Motor Vehicle Office (KBA) announced that there were 274,303 new passenger car registrations in October, a 3.6% decrease from the same month last year.
Year-to-date sales decreased 23.4% with 2,316,134 cars registered in the first ten months of 2020.
Volkswagen brand sales of 47,204 units (17.2% market share) decreased 17.0% in October compared to the same month in 2019.
Mercedes-Benz sales of 32,698 units (11.9% share) decreased 2.7% from last year.
Audi sales of 20,922 units (7.6% share) increased 23.1% in October.
BMW sales of 20,825 units (7.6% share) decreased 14.4% in October.
Skoda sales of 17,151 units (6.3% share) increased 7.7% from last year.
Opel sales of 16,867 units (6.1% share) increased 22.6% from the same month last year.
Sales of 31,095 trucks in October represented an increase of 10.5% from the previous year’s results, while sales of 501 buses represented an increase of 11.1%.
In October, gasoline-powered vehicles accounted for a 42.1% market share, diesel vehicles had a 26.0% market share and hybrid vehicles had a 22.9% market share.
The VDA announced that monthly passenger car exports of 276,600 units had decreased 2% and domestic production of 382,300 units had decreased 2% from last October.

German passenger car sales rise 8.4% in September
On October 5, the Germany Federal Motor Vehicle Office (KBA) announced that there were 265,227 new passenger car registrations in September, a 8.4% increase from the same month last year.
Year-to-date sales decreased 25.5% with 2,041,831 cars registered in the first nine months of 2020.
Volkswagen brand sales of 40,398 units (15.2% market share) increased 1.6% in September compared to the same month in 2019.
Mercedes-Benz sales of 27,360 units (10.3% share) increased 1.9% from last year.
BMW sales of 20,267 units (7.6% share) increased 1.9% in September.
Ford sales of 18,696 units (7.0% share) decreased 0.8% in September.
Skoda sales of 18,152 units (6.8% share) increased 29.6% from last year.
Audi sales of 16,247 units (6.1% share) increased 42.4% from the same month last year.
Sales of 27,181 trucks in September represented an increase of 19.1% from the previous year’s results, while sales of 574 buses represented an increase of 77.7%.
In September, gasoline-powered vehicles accounted for a 45.5% market share, diesel vehicles had a 25.6% market share and hybrid vehicles had a 20.4% market share.
The VDA announced that monthly passenger car exports of 266,600 units had decreased 16% and domestic production of 369,300 units had decreased 11% from last September.

On September 3, the Germany Federal Motor Vehicle Office (KBA) announced that there were 251,044 new passenger car registrations in August, a 20.0% decrease from the same month last year.
Year-to-date sales decreased 28.8% with 1,776,604 cars registered in the first eight months of 2020.
Volkswagen brand sales of 43,842 units (17.5% market share) decreased 16.9% in August compared to the same month in 2019.
Mercedes-Benz sales of 27,906 units (11.1% share) decreased 3.7% from last year.
BMW sales of 21,549 units (8.6% share) increased 15.2% in August.
Ford sales of 16,783 units (6.7% share) decreased 26.1% in August.
Audi sales of 16,405 units (6.5% share) decreased 35.0% from last year.
Skoda sales of 15,686 units (6.2% share) decreased 20.0% from the same month last year.
Sales of 25,485 trucks in August represented a decrease of 22.4% from the previous year’s results, while sales of 538 buses represented a decrease of 5.3%.
In August, gasoline-powered vehicles accounted for a 47.0% market share, diesel vehicles had a 27.7% market share and hybrid vehicles had a 18.4% market share.
The VDA announced that monthly passenger car exports of 154,300 units had decreased 31% and domestic production of 203,100 units had decreased 35% from last August.

German passenger car sales fall 5.4% in July
On August 5, the Germany Federal Motor Vehicle Office (KBA) announced that there were 314,938 new passenger car registrations in July, a 5.4% decrease from the same month last year.
Year-to-date sales decreased 30.1% with 1,525,560 cars registered in the first seven months of 2020.
Volkswagen brand sales of 59,714 units (19.0% market share) decreased 3.3% in July compared to the same month in 2019.
Mercedes-Benz sales of 34,393 units (10.9% share) increased 10.7% from last year.
BMW sales of 28,272 units (9.0% share) increased 17.4% in July.
Audi sales of 22,865 units (7.3% share) decreased 20.8% from last year.
Skoda sales of 22,084 units (7.0% share) increased 8.3% from the same month last year.
Ford sales of 20,453 units (6.5% share) decreased 22.5% in July.
Sales of 26,666 trucks in July represented a decrease of 6.3% from the previous year’s results, while sales of 611 buses represented an increase of 30.3%.
In July, gasoline-powered vehicles accounted for a 49.0% market share, diesel vehicles had a 28.4% market share and hybrid vehicles had a 16.7% market share.
The VDA announced that monthly passenger car exports of 242,800 units had decreased 15% and domestic production of 334,000 units had decreased 36% from last July.

On July 3, the Germany Federal Motor Vehicle Office (KBA) announced that there were 220,272 new passenger car registrations in June, a 32.3% decrease from the same month last year.
Year-to-date sales decreased 34.5% with 1,210,622 cars registered in the first half of 2020.
Volkswagen brand sales of 39,126 units (17.8% market share) decreased 37.2% in June compared to the same month in 2019.
Mercedes-Benz sales of 21,970 units (10.0% share) decreased 8.7% from last year.
BMW sales of 18,075 units (8.2% share) decreased 29.4% in June.
Ford sales of 16,145 units (7.3% share) decreased 35.6% from last year.
Audi sales of 15,597 units (7.1% share) decreased 35.3% from the same month last year.
Skoda sales of 13,595 units (6.2% share) decreased 32.1% in June.
Sales of 22,843 trucks in June represented a decrease of 28.0% from the previous year’s results, while sales of 455 buses represented a decrease of 28.5%.
In June, gasoline-powered vehicles accounted for a 51.5% market share, diesel vehicles had a 30.6% market share and hybrid vehicles had a 13.7% market share.

On June 4, the Germany Federal Motor Vehicle Office (KBA) announced that there were 168,148 new passenger car registrations in May, a 49.5% decrease from the same month last year due to coronavirus pandemic.
Volkswagen brand sales of 29,568 units (17.6% market share) decreased 51.5% in May compared to the same month in 2019.
Mercedes-Benz sales of 17,134 units (10.2% share) decreased 42.5% from last year.
Audi sales of 13,915 units (8.3% share) decreased 46.1% in May.
Ford sales of 11,156 units (6.6% share) decreased 57.1% from last year.
BMW sales of 10,240 units (6.1% share) decreased 62.1% from the same month last year.
Skoda sales of 9,768 units (5.8% share) decreased 47.8% in May.
Sales of 17,537 trucks in May represented a decrease of 46.6% from the previous year’s results, while sales of 327 buses represented a decrease of 48.9%.
In May, gasoline-powered vehicles accounted for a 51.1% market share, diesel vehicles had a 31.6% market share. Hybrid vehicles had a 13.6% market share.
The VDA announced that monthly passenger car exports of 105,100 units had decreased 67% and domestic production of 151,500 units had decreased 66% from last May.

German passenger car sales fall 61.1% in April
On May 6, the Germany Federal Motor Vehicle Office (KBA) announced that there were 120,840 new passenger car registrations in April, a 61.1% decrease from the same month last year due to coronavirus pandemic.
Volkswagen brand sales of 20,741 units (17.2% market share) decreased 63.9% in April compared to the same month in 2019.
BMW sales of 12,410 units (10.3% share) decreased 49.9% from last year.
Ford sales of 9,311 units (7.7% share) decreased 61.7% in April.
Audi sales of 8,969 units (7.4% share) decreased 61.0% from last year.
Mercedes-Benz sales of 8,508 units (7.0% share) decreased 71.2% from the same month last year.
Skoda sales of 7,227 units (6.0% share) decreased 57.1% in April.
Sales of 16,101 trucks in April represented a decrease of 45.1% from the previous year’s results, while sales of 237 buses represented a decrease of 56.7%.
In April, gasoline-powered vehicles accounted for a 49.9% market share, diesel vehicles had a 32.1% market share and hybrid vehicles had a 13.7% market share.
The VDA announced that monthly passenger car exports of 17,600 units had decreased 94% and domestic production of 10,900 units had decreased 97% from last April.

German passenger car sales fall 37.7% in March
On April 3, the Germany Federal Motor Vehicle Office (KBA) announced that there were 215,119 new passenger car registrations in March, a 37.7% decrease from the same month last year.
Volkswagen brand sales of 40,643 units (18.9% market share) decreased 35.1% in March compared to the same month in 2019.
Mercedes-Benz sales of 20,132 units (9.4% share) decreased 28.2% from last year.
BMW sales of 20,047 units (9.3% share) decreased 21.3% in March.
Audi sales of 18,904 units (8.8% share) decreased 36.5% from last year.
Ford sales of 12,730 units (5.9% share) decreased 50.3% from the same month last year.
Skoda sales of 12,113 units (5.6% share) decreased 40.5% in March.
Sales of 23,310 trucks in March represented a decrease of 26.0% from the previous year’s results, while sales of 485 buses represented an increase of 11.8%.
In March, gasoline-powered vehicles accounted for a 50.0% market share, diesel vehicles had a 31.6% market share.
The VDA announced that monthly passenger car exports of 234,500 units had decreased 32% and domestic production of 287,900 units had decreased 37% from last March.

German passenger car sales fell 10.8% in February
On March 4, the Germany Federal Motor Vehicle Office (KBA) announced that there were 239,943 new passenger car registrations in February, a 10.8% decrease from the same month last year.
Volkswagen brand sales of 44,405 units (18.5% market share) decreased 11.1% in February compared to the same month in 2019.
Mercedes-Benz sales of 23,577 units (9.8% share) decreased 3.3% from last year.
Audi sales of 19,172 units (8.0% share) decreased 20.3% in February.
BMW sales of 17,613 units (7.3% share) decreased 1.2% from last year.
Ford sales of 17,330 units (7.2% share) decreased 18.5% from the same month last year.
Skoda sales of 14,870 units (6.2% share) decreased 11.3% in February.
Sales of 23,772 trucks in February represented a decrease of 6.2% from the previous year’s results, while sales of 493 buses represented an increase of 33.6%.
In February, gasoline-powered vehicles accounted for a 52.1% market share, diesel vehicles had a 31.6% market share. Hybrid vehicles had a 12.5% market share.
The VDA announced that monthly passenger car exports of 285,800 units had decreased 17% and domestic production of 388,900 units had decreased 12% from last February.

German passenger car sales fall 7.3% in January 2020
On February 5, the Germany Federal Motor Vehicle Office (KBA) announced that there were 246,300 new passenger car registrations in January, a 7.3% decrease from the same month last year.
Volkswagen brand sales of 48,744 units (19.8% market share) decreased 4.1% in January compared to the same month in 2019.
Mercedes-Benz sales of 26,034 units (10.6% share) increased 2.9% from last year.
Audi sales of 22,066 units (9.0% share) increased 1.2% in January.
BMW sales of 20,454 units (8.3% share) increased 6.5% from last year.
Ford sales of 17,335 units (7.0% share) decreased 17.7% from the same month last year.
Skoda sales of 14,295 units (5.8% share) decreased 2.5% in January.
Sales of 24,111 trucks in January represented a decrease of 4.1% from the previous year’s results, while the sale of 630 buses was a 0.5% increase from last year.
In January, gasoline-powered vehicles accounted for a 51.5% market share, diesel vehicles had a 32.6% market share. Hybrid vehicles had a 12.5% and EV had a 3.0% market share.
The VDA announced that monthly passenger car exports of 255,600 units had decreased 11% and domestic production of 341,600 units had decreased 8% from last January.
