Brazilian vehicle sales increased 37.8% to 269,483 units in March 2026 (ANFAVEA)
The Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) increased 37.8% YOY to 269,483 units in March 2026. The significant increase was due to a recovery in loan demand due to lower interest rates, fleet renewals by corporations and rental car companies, and the effect of introducing new vehicles.
Of the newly-registered vehicles, locally-manufactured vehicles soared 40.7% YOY to 222,186 units and imported vehicles surged 25.7% YOY to 47,297 units.
Vehicle sales in March consisted of 206,434 passenger cars; 52,301 light commercial vehicles; 8,789 trucks; and 1,959 buses.

Cumulative sales for the three months of the year were up 13.3% y/y to 625,182 units.
On April 9, Scotiabank maintained its previous March forecast, estimating full-year Brazilian sales of 2.6 million units in 2026 and 2.68 million units in 2027.
President Arcelio Junior of Fenabrave explained that the best result for the month of March in 13 years was pulled by the discounts in the IPI (Tax on Industrialized Products) of the Federal Government's Sustainable Car Program, among other things. He also added that the March calendar had more working days, which contributed to the robust performance of the month.

The Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) decreased 0.4% YOY to 170,536 units in January 2026, due to stable private consumption.
Vehicle sales in January consisted of 125,164 passenger cars; 37,745 light commercial vehicles; 6,447 trucks; and 1,180 buses. Sales of trucks and buses decreased substantially as corporate investment was curbed by the economic slowdown and high interest rates.

On January 13, Scotiabank published its forecast, estimating full-year Brazilian sales of 2.6 million units in 2026 and 2.68 million units in 2027.
"The result confirms that the sector is starting 2026 on a solid foundation. And even with one less working day compared to the previous year, we observed a maintenance of demand," Arcelio Junior, president of Fenabrave, said.
