Mexico auto production fell 12.6% in December, 4.1% in all of 2019
Auto plants in Mexico built 28,073 light vehicles during December 2018, representing a 12.6% decline compared to same month in 2018, while the 3,750,841 vehicles built in all of 2019 represent a decline of 4.1% from the previous year, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
However, both figures do not take into account production of Mercedes-Benz, which has been manufacturing A-Class sedans at the COMPAS plant since September 2018.
The companies exhibiting production growth in Mexico in 2019 include GM, reporting production of 864,143 units (3.6% increase from 2018 despite its major strike between September and October 2019) and Volkswagen with 443,414 units (1.8% increase).
Companies with production declines included Nissan with 672,700 units (11.8% decrease), FCA with 560,141 units (12.3% decrease), Kia with 286,600 units (2.7% decrease), and Ford Motor with 249,605 units (11.0% decrease).

Mexico auto production drops 13.0% in November
OEMs built 300,292 light vehicles in Mexico in November 2019, resulting in a 13.0% decrease compared to the 345,228 units built in the same month of 2018, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
Inegi’s November 2019 production data does not includes Mercedes-Benz A Class production at the COMPAS plant in Aguascalientes, however, it does include the 4,776 BMW 3 Series sedans produced in November at that company’s new plant in San Luis Potosi.
The OEMs with production increases in November include General Motors with a 9.1% increase to 81,932 units; Mazda with a 10.5% increase to 14,035 units; and a 7.7% increase to 323 units for JAC-branded vehicles built by Giant Motors.
OEMs which declined in November compared to the previous year included Nissan with a 17.6% decrease to 55,282 units; FCA with a 15.7% decrease to 41,128 units; Ford with a 68.2% decrease to 8,145 units; Toyota with a 6.4% decrease to 15,869 units; Honda with a 6.8% decrease to 14,300 units; VW brand with a 23.0% decrease to 28,387 units; Audi with a 27.6% decrease to 12,015 units; and Kia with a 19.5% decrease to 24,100 units.
The 3,542,768 total units produced in the first 11 months of 2019 was 3.5% fewer than the 3,672,896 units produced in the same period last year.

Mexico auto production slides 16.3% in October
OEMs built 311,150 light vehicles in Mexico in October 2019, resulting in a 16.3% decrease compared to the 371,949 units built in the same month of 2018. It was the largest monthly decline since records began in 1989, and the production volume was the smallest since 2013 according to information from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
Inegi’s October 2019 production data does not includes Mercedes-Benz A Class production at the COMPAS plant in Aguascalientes, however, it does include the 5,507 BMW 3 Series sedans produced in October at that company’s new plant in San Luis Potosi.
The OEMs with production increases in October include Toyota with a 2.1% increase to 18,116 units; Honda with a 329.4% increase relative to October last year, after flooding, to 17,699 units; Audi with a 3.7% increase to 13,597 unites and a 152.7% increase to 379 units for JAC-branded vehicles built by Giant Motors.
OEMs which declined in October compared to the previous year included Nissan with a 13.1% decrease to 69,831 units; FCA with a 2.4% decrease to 57,476 units; GM with a 30.1% decrease to 54,924 units in consequence of the UAW strike in the United States; VW with a 21.3% decrease to 37,881 units; Kia with a 13.2% decrease to 28,400 units; Mazda with a 11.8% decrease to 7,340 units and Ford did not produce a vehicle.

OEMs built 318,906 light vehicles in Mexico in September 2019, resulting in a 0.4% decrease compared to the 320,288 units built in the same month of 2018, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
Inegi’s September 2019 production data does not includes Mercedes-Benz A Class production at the COMPAS plant in Aguascalientes, however, it does include the 3,197 BMW 3 Series sedans produced in September at that company’s new plant in San Luis Potosi.
The OEMs with production increases in September include General Motors with a 0.4% increase to 75,293 units; Audi with a 54.8% increase to 15,102 units; VW with a 33.7% increase to 39,079 units; Honda with a 365.3% increase relative to September last year, after flooding, to 16,698 units; and a 55.7% increase to 338 units for JAC-branded vehicles built by Giant Motors.
OEMs which declined in September compared to the previous year included Nissan with a 8.9% decrease to 60,142 units; FCA with a 20.5% decrease to 45,963 units; Ford with a 20.8% decrease to 17,755 units; Toyota with a 4.2% decrease to 17,644 units; Kia with a 14.4% decrease to 24,200 units; and Mazda with a 62.4% decrease to 3,644 units as the Salamanca plant ramps up for MX-30 production.

Mexico auto production decreases 9.6% in August
OEMs built 337,462 light vehicles in Mexico in August 2019, resulting in a 9.6% decrease compared to the 373,242 units built in the same month of 2018, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
Inegi’s August 2019 production data does not includes Mercedes-Benz A Class production at the COMPAS plant in Aguascalientes, however, it does include the 3,440 BMW 3 Series sedans produced in August at that company’s new plant in San Luis Potosi.
The OEMs with production increases in August include Ford with a 11.6% increase to 24,002 units; Honda with a 372.6% increase relative to August last year, due to flooding and plant closure in 2018, to 19,330 units; and Toyota with a 1.5% increase to 18,262 units.
OEMs which declined in August compared to the previous year included GM with a 2.3% decrease to 81,337 units; Nissan with a 21.7% decrease to 63,003 units; FCA with a 27.7% decrease to 45,737 units; Volkswagen with a 3.1% decrease to 42,159 units; Kia with a 18.7% decrease to 25,800 units; Audi with a 44.0% decrease to 8,486 units; and Mazda which decreased 51.8% to 5,906 unites.

Mexico auto production decreases 1.0% in July
OEMs built 292,641 light vehicles in Mexico in July 2019, resulting in a 1.0% decrease compared to the 295,696 units built in the same month of 2018, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
Inegi’s July 2019 production data does not includes Mercedes-Benz A Class production at the COMPAS plant in Aguascalientes, however, it does include the 1,824 BMW 3 Series sedans produced in July at that company’s new plant in San Luis Potosi.
The OEMs with production increases in July include General Motors with a 19.3% increase to 77,348 units; Ford with a 1.9% increase to 17,030 units; Toyota with a 17.5% increase to 12,632 units; Kia with a 28.9% increase to 21,500 units; and Honda with a 542.3% increase relative to July last year, due to flooding and plant closure in 2018, to 14,843 units.
OEMs which declined in July compared to the previous year included Nissan with a 21.6% decrease to 38,409 units; FCA with a 2.4% decrease to 55,898 units; VW with a 36.0% decrease to 32,306 units; Mazda with a 44.1% decrease to 7,807 units; and Audi which decreased 5.3% to 13,044 units.

OEMs built 337,253 light vehicles in Mexico in June 2019, resulting in a 4.4% decrease compared to the 352,930 units built in the same month of 2018, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
Inegi’s June 2019 production data does not includes Mercedes-Benz A Class production at the COMPAS plant in Aguascalientes, however, it does include the 1,650 BMW 3 Series sedans produced in June at that company’s new plant in San Luis Potosi, which officially opened on June 6.
The OEMs with production increases in June include General Motors with a 2.2% increase to 77,804 units; Ford with a 26.5% increase to 27,542 units; VW with a 16.2% increase to 44,010 units; Honda with a 27.7% increase to 17,358 units; and Kia with a 9.8% increase to 24,800 units.
OEMs which declined in June compared to the previous year included Nissan with a 22.0% decrease to 56,791 units; FCA with a 5.1% decrease to 56,130 units; Toyota with a 15.8% decrease to 14,363 units; Mazda which decreased 71.7% to 5,020 units; and Audi which decreased 17.0% to 11,785 units.

OEMs built 349,628 light vehicles in Mexico in May 2019, resulting in a 1.5% decrease compared to the 354,837 units built in the same month of 2018, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
Inegi’s May 2019 production data does not includes Mercedes-Benz A Class production at the COMPAS plant in Aguascalientes, however, it does include the 930 BMW 3 Series sedans produced in May at that company’s new plant in San Luis Potosi, which officially opened on June 6.
The four OEMs with production increases in May include General Motors with a 4.8% increase to 79,775 units; FCA with a 7.4% increase to 54,466 units; Ford with a 25.7% increase to 29,994 units; and Kia with an 8.3% increase to 26,500 units.
OEMs which declined in May compared to the previous year included Nissan with a 1.8% decrease to 61,994 units; VW with a 5.7% decrease to 41,786 units; Honda with a 4.5% decrease to 19,173 units; Toyota with an 11.9% decrease to 16,001 units; Mazda which decreased 63.0% to 5,889 units; and Audi which decreased 27.6% to 13,120 units.

Mexico auto production rises 2.0% in April
OEMs built 299,707 light vehicles in Mexico in April 2019, resulting in a 2.0% increase compared to the 293,783 units built in the same month of 2018, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
Inegi’s April 2019 production data does not includes Mercedes-Benz A Class production at the COMPAS plant in Aguascalientes.
Many OEMs saw production increases in April, including VW with a 14.9% increase to 38,278 units; General Motors with a 3.0% increase to 71,764 units; FCA with a 16.2% increase to 42,562 units; Ford with a 12.4% increase to 22,296 units; Honda with a 1.5% increase to 17,534 units; and Kia with a 10.5% increase to 23,400 units.
OEMs which declined in April compared to the previous year included Nissan with a 10.4% decrease to 46,364 units; Toyota with an 11.9% decrease to 15,161 units; Mazda which decreased 45.1% to 5,619 units; and Audi which decreased 3.8% to 16,020 units.
The new BMW plant in San Luis Potosi, which officially opens in June, assembled 709 3 Series sedans in April.

Mexico auto production up 4.8% in March
OEMs built 346,873 light vehicles in Mexico in March 2019, resulting in a 4.8% increase compared to the 331,069 units built in the same month of 2018, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
Inegi’s March 2019 production data does not includes Mercedes-Benz A Class production at the COMPAS plant in Aguascalientes.
Almost all OEMs saw production increases in March, including VW with a 14.3% increase to 37,434 units; General Motors with a 6.1% increase to 77,904 units; Nissan with a 5.0% increase to 62,157 units; Toyota with a 7.9% increase to 18,271 units; Ford with a 17.0% increase to 29,858 units; Honda with a 21.0% increase to 19,698 units; and Kia with a 11.6% increase to 23,400 units.
OEMs which declined in March compared to the previous year included FCA whose production decreased 11.3% to 49,777 units; Mazda which decreased 8.7% to 11,625 units; and Audi which decreased 2.5% to 16,749 units.

Mexico auto production declines 5.0% in February
OEMs built 311,833 light vehicles in Mexico in February 2019, resulting in a 5.0% decline compared to the 328,352 units built in the same month of 2018, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
Inegi’s February 2019 production data does not includes Mercedes-Benz A Class production at the COMPAS plant in Aguascalientes.
Among OEMs whose production increased in February were VW with a 25.1% increase to 35,222 units; Nissan with a 14.2% increase to 63,851 units; Toyota with a 12.3% increase to 16,608 units; Ford with a 9.5% increase to 29,204 units; Audi with a 6.3% increase to 16,031 units; Honda with a 4.6% increase to 17,861 units; and Kia with a 4.2% increase to 22,500 units.
OEMs which declined in February compared to the previous year included FCA whose production decreased 34.1% to 40,221 units largely due to ending RAM 1500 production to ramp up heavy duty production; Mazda which decreased 28.8% to 8,834 units for a similar reason; and General Motors whose production decreased 18.7% to 61,501 units.

Mexico auto production rises 9.9% in January
OEMs built 333,677 light vehicles in Mexico in January 2019, represents a 9.9% increase compared to the 303,755 units built in the same month of 2018, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
Inegi’s report for January 2019 does not include production data from Mercedes-Benz, which started assembly operations in the third quarter of 2018 at the COMPAS plant in Aguascalientes, jointly operated by Daimler and Nissan.
Among OEMs whose production increased in January were VW, reporting a 116.4% increase to 37,460 units; followed by Toyota with a 41.7% increase to 17,201 units; GM with a 31.7% increase to 70,306 units; and Audi with a 26.3% increase to 17,224 units.
Ford reported a 5.2% increase to 27,468 units and Honda reported a 2.5% increase to 20,540 units.
Among OEMs which declined in January compared to the previous year were Mazda, with a decrease of 63.4% to 5,332 units likely due to a shutdown at its Salamanca plant to perform retooling for the next generation Mazda3 sedans; Nissan with a 9.9% decrease to 64,332 units; FCA with a 2.5% decrease to 49,514 units; and Kia with a marginal decrease of 0.4% to 24,300 units.
