Mexico auto production up 18.4 % in December, down 20.2% for full-year 2020
OEMs built 254,251 light vehicles in Mexico in December 2020, an 18.4% increase from the same month in 2019, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
OEMs with production increases in December include Audi with a 280.9% increase to 13,287 units, BMW with a 90.6% increase to 5,014 units; FCA with an 84.9% increase to 39,601 units; Honda with a 15.8% increase to 10,862 units; Kia with a 5.3% increase to 18,646 units; Mazda with a 0.5% increase to 10,829 units; Mercedes-Benz with a 31.5% increase to 7,765 units; Nissan with a 55.1% increase to 47,367 units; and Toyota with an 32.6% increase to 16,507 units.
OEMs which declined in December compared to the previous year included Ford with a 35.2% decrease to 10,577 units; GM with a 9.6% decrease to 49,032 units; JAC with a 16.8% decrease to 376 units; and VW with an 17.1% decrease to 24,388 units.
The 3,040,178 total units produced in full-year 2020 were 20.2% fewer than in 2019.
OEMs with production increases for all of 2020 include BMW with a 125.5% increase to 55,832 units; Mazda with a 51.2% increase to 138,855 units; and Mercedes-Benz with a 43.9% increase to 85,392 units.
OEMs which declined compared to full-year 2020 included GM with a 15.7% decrease to 728,768 units; Audi with a 20.9% decrease to 123,955 units; FCA with a 21.1% decrease to 442,107 units; Ford with an 45.5% decrease to 136,067 units; Honda with a 37.1% decrease to 128,568 units; JAC with a 20.3% decrease to 3,782 units, Kia with a 27.8% decrease to 206,800 units, Nissan with a 22.4% decrease to 521,730 units, Toyota with a 12.1% decrease to 169,350 units; and VW with a 32.6% decrease to 298,972 units.

Mexico auto production rises 1.4% in November
OEMs built 312,184 light vehicles in Mexico in November 2020, resulting in a 1.4% increase compared to the 307,756 units built in the same month of 2019, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
The OEMs with production increases in November included Audi with an 7.8% increase to 12,948 units; BMW with a 42.9% increase to 6,823 units; FCA with a 18.6% increase to 48,784 units; Ford with a 31.8% increase to 10,738 units; Mazda with a 13.5% increase to 15,925 units; Mercedes-Benz with a 42.6% increase to 10,434 units; Nissan with a 3.2% increase to 57,074 units; Toyota with a 12.8% increase to 18,061 units; and a 5.3% increase to 340 units for JAC-branded vehicles built by Giant Motors.
OEMs which declined in November compared to the previous year included GM with a 12.1% decrease to 72,012 units; Honda with a 9.7% decrease to 12,920 units; Kia with a 12.9% decrease to 21,000 units; and VW with an 11.5% decrease to 25,125 units.

Mexico auto production up 8.8% in October
OEMs built 347,829 light vehicles in Mexico in October 2020, resulting in a 8.8% increase compared to the 319,737 units built in the same month of 2019, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
For Inegi’s production data it is the first time since Q3 2018 to include the production of Mercedes-Benz A Class and GLB sport utility vehicle at the COMPAS plant in Aguascalientes.
The OEMs with production increases in October compared to the previous year included GM with an 45.2% increase to 79,738 units; Volkswagen with a 9.4% increase to 41,446 units; Toyota with a 15.6% increase to 20,945 units; Audi with a 19.7% increase to 16,278 units; Mazda with a 103.3% increase to 14,920 units; Mercedes-Benz with a 41.1% increase to 12,116 units; BMW with a 24.2% increase to 6,840 units. Ford Motor produced 1,580 units.
OEMs which declined in October included Nissan with an 6.1% decrease to 65,606 units; FCA with a 13.0% decrease to 50,012 units; Kia with a 18.3% decrease to 23,200 units; Honda with a 15.5% decrease to 14,956 units; and a 49.3% decrease to 192 units for JAC-branded vehicles built by Giant Motors.

Mexico auto production slides 5.5% in September
OEMs built 301,426 light vehicles in Mexico in September 2020, resulting in a 5.5% decrease compared to the 318,906 units built in the same month of 2019, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
Inegi’s September 2020 production data does not includes Mercedes-Benz A Class production at the COMPAS plant in Aguascalientes.
The OEMs with production increases in September included Audi with an 11.0% increase to 16,766 units; BMW with a 106.1% increase to 6,590 units; FCA with a 14.4% increase to 52,404 units; GM with a 1.5% increase to 76,396 units; Mazda with a 316.8% increase to 15,188 units; and Toyota with a 6.9% increase to 18,862 units.
OEMs which declined in September compared to the previous year included VW with an 18.0% decrease to 32,046 units; Ford with a 98.2% decrease to 324 units; Nissan with a 16.8% decrease to 50,068 units; Honda with a 23.4% decrease to 12,785 units; Kia with an 18.8% decrease to 19,800 units; and a 41.7% decrease to 197 units for JAC-branded vehicles built by Giant Motors.

Mexico auto production falls 13.2% in August
OEMs built 293,463 light vehicles in Mexico in August 2020, resulting in a 13.2% decrease compared to the 337,898 units built in the same month of 2019, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
Inegi’s August 2020 production data does not includes Mercedes-Benz A Class production at the COMPAS plant in Aguascalientes.
The OEMs with production increases in August included Audi with a 80.7% increase to 15,331 units; BMW with a 104.9% increase to 7,049 units; Mazda with a 135.6% increase to 13,916 units; and FCA with a 6.7% increase to 48,788 units.
OEMs which declined in August compared to the previous year included VW with a 26.8% decrease to 30,865 units; General Motors with a 14.9% decrease to 69,213 units; Nissan with a 7.7% decrease to 58,135 units; Ford with a 99.5% decrease to 126 units; Toyota with a 5.4% decrease to 17,277 units; Honda with a 22.6% decrease to 14,970 units; Kia with a 32.6% decrease to 17,400 units; and a 9.9% decrease to 393 units for JAC-branded vehicles built by Giant Motors.

Mexico auto production rises 0.7% in July
OEMs built 294,946 light vehicles in Mexico in July 2020, resulting in a 0.7% increase compared to the 293,035 units built in the same month of 2019, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
Inegi’s July 2020 production data does not includes Mercedes-Benz A Class production at the COMPAS plant in Aguascalientes.
The OEMs with production increases in July included General Motors with a 6.2% increase to 82,156 units; Nissan with a 12.0% increase to 43,010 units; VW with a 18.8% increase to 38,394 units; Ford with a 58.6% increase to 27,009 units; Toyota with a 29.1% increase to 16,304 units; Audi with a 0.7% increase to 13,134 units; Mazda wit a 29.6% increase to 10,116 units; BMW with a 229.7% increase to 6,013 units and a 1.8% increase to 401 units for JAC-branded vehicles built by Giant Motors.
OEMs which declined in July compared to the previous year included FCA with a 43.2% decrease to 31,764 units; Kia with a 34.9% decrease to 14,000 units and Honda with a 14.8% decrease to 12,645 units.

Mexico auto production drops 29.2% in June, 40.8% for first half of 2020
Operating in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, OEMs built 238,946 light vehicles in Mexico in June 2020, resulting in a 29.2% decrease compared to the 337,721 units built in the same month of 2019, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
Inegi’s June 2020 production data does not includes Mercedes-Benz A Class production at the COMPAS plant in Aguascalientes.
The OEMs with production increases in June include Mazda with a 78.4% increase to 8,957 units and BMW with a 109.6% increase to 3,458 units.
OEMs which declined in June compared to the previous year included General Motors with a 4.8% decrease to 74,098 units; FCA with a 18.9% decrease to 45,501 units, Nissan with a 38.5% decrease to 34,926 units; Ford with a 27.4% decrease to 19,991 units; Kia with a 37.7% decrease to 15,450 units; Honda with a 25.7% decrease to 12,890 units; Toyota with a 14.4% decrease to 12,289 units; VW with a 79.7% decrease to 8,942 units; Audi with a 82.5% decrease to 2,059 units; and a 17.7% decrease to 385 units for JAC-branded vehicles built by Giant Motors.
Total production of 1,172,698 units in the first half of 2020 dropped 40.8% from the 1,981,487 units produced in the same period in 2019.
“The automotive industry is a driving force of Mexico and our commitment is to continue being active protagonists in the next stage after COVID-19 coronavirus,” said Fausto Cuevas, general director of the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry.

Mexico’s COVID-affected auto production drops 93.7% in May
OEMs built only 22,119 light vehicles in Mexico in May 2020 due to the coronavirus crisis, resulting in a 93.7% decrease compared to the 350,060 units built in the same month of 2019, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
Inegi’s May 2020 production data does not includes Mercedes-Benz A Class production at the COMPAS plant in Aguascalientes.
OEMs which declined in May compared to the previous year included General Motors with a 88.8% decrease to 8,970 units, FCA with a 93.9% decrease to 3,291 units, Nissan with a 96.6% decrease to 2,124 units; Ford with a 97.9% decrease to 623 units; Toyota with a 82.8% decrease to 2,755 units; Honda with a 91.5% decrease to 1,623 units; Kia with a 91.3% decrease to 2,300 units; Mazda with a 98.4% decrease to 97 units, and BMW with a 63.9% decrease to 336 units.
VW, Audi, and JAC (at Giant Motors) produced no vehicles in May.

Mexico auto production decreases 98.8% in April, hit by coronavirus
OEMs built 3,722 light vehicles in Mexico in April 2020, resulting in a 98.8% decrease compared to the 3,722 units built in the same month of 2019, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
The OEMs with production decreases in April include Kia with an 84.2% decrease to 3,722 units and Ford with a 99.9% decrease to 18 units. Other manufacturers were out of production in April.

Mexico auto production decreases 24.6% in March
OEMs built 261,805 light vehicles in Mexico in March 2020, resulting in a 24.6% decrease compared to the 347,391 units built in the same month of 2019, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
INEGI’s March 2020 production data does not include Mercedes-Benz A Class production at the COMPAS plant in Aguascalientes, but does include the 4,322 BMW 3 Series sedans produced in February in San Luis Potosi.
The OEMs with production decreases in March include General Motors with a 14.7% decrease to 66,417 units; Nissan with a 25.3% decrease to 46,412 units, FCA with a 38.1% decrease to 30,835 units; Volkswagen with a 20.9% decrease to 29,626 units; Ford with a 45.8% decrease to 16,176 units; Toyota with a 43.7% decrease to 10,281 units; and Honda with a 52.6% decrease to 9,333 units; and Audi with a 48.6% decrease to 8,609 units and a 23.0% decrease to 399 units for JAC-branded vehicles built by Giant Motors.
OEMs which increased in March compared to the previous year included Kia with a 11.1% increase to 26,000 units; and Mazda with a 15.2% decrease to 13,395 units.
In a video conference to analyze the industry figures, the general director of the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA), Fausto Cuevas, said that the trajectory of the industry in the coming months is still unclear, given that many manufacturers have chosen to suspend operations in the face of the spread of COVID-19. "What we are considering is that this crisis will have unprecedented effects in our sector," he said.

Mexico auto production increases 4.5% in February
OEMs built 326,183 light vehicles in Mexico in February 2020, resulting in a 4.5% increase compared to the 312,280 units built in the same month of 2019, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
Inegi’s February 2020 production data does not includes Mercedes-Benz A Class production at the COMPAS plant in Aguascalientes, but does include the 4,860 BMW 3 Series sedans produced in February in San Luis Potosi.
The OEMs with production increases in February include General Motors with a 21.2% increase to 74,560 units; FCA with a 27.9% increase to 51,376 units, Mazda with a 85.1% increase to 16,356 units; and a 24.8% increase to 558 units for JAC-branded vehicles built by Giant Motors.
OEMs which declined in February compared to the previous year included Nissan with a 6.7% decrease to 59,601 units; Ford with a 15.8% decrease to 24,581 units; Toyota with a 16.3% decrease to 13,893 units; Honda with a 28.6% decrease to 12,758 units; Audi with a 4.0% decrease to 15,393 units; Kia with a 6.7% decrease to 21,000 units; and VW with a 11.3% decrease to 31,247 units.

Mexico auto production drops 4.0% in January
OEMs built 320,405 light vehicles in Mexico in January 2020, resulting in a 4.0% decrease compared to the 333,929 units built in the same month of 2019, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
Inegi’s January 2020 production data does not includes Mercedes-Benz A Class production at the COMPAS plant in Aguascalientes, however, it does include the 4,608 BMW 3 Series sedans produced in January at that company’s new plant in San Luis Potosi.
The OEMs with production increases in January include General Motors with an 8.3% increase to 76,176 units; Kia with staying flat on the same month’s figure in 2019 of 24,300 units; and Mazda with a 259.3% increase to 19,156 units.
OEMs which declined in January compared to the previous year included Nissan with a 10.8% decrease to 57,407 units; FCA with a 19.7% decrease to 39,751 units; VW brand with a 1.5% decrease to 36,892 units; Ford with a 11.4% decrease to 24,324 units; Toyota with a 19.8% decrease to 13,792 units; Honda with a 35.2% decrease to 13,308 units.
