CES 2022 was held as both a virtual event through January and an in-person event from January 5 through January 7, 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S. due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and spread of the Omicron variant. As such, the number of attendees and exhibitors declined significantly compared to the previous event held in 2020. A number of major companies including General Motors and Mercedes-Benz cancelled their in-person attendance immediately prior to the start of the exhibition and instead hosted virtual exhibits.
Established OEMs continued to emphasize the importance of electric vehicles at CES 2022. GM delivered a virtual keynote address, highlighting its zero emission strategy by unveiling the Chevrolet Silverado EV and announcing the Chevrolet Equinox EV and Chevrolet Blazer EV. Stellantis debuted the Chrysler Airflow Concept, showcasing a variety of future technologies, and announced that its Chrysler brand would become fully electric by 2028. Mercedes-Benz revealed the Vision EQXX concept vehicle to demonstrate various technologies to improve efficiency. In contrast, BMW highlighted the performance capabilities of a battery electric vehicle by debuting the iX M60.
